My first computer, a prebuilt HP from a shop, about 15-20 years ago, used to get really loud in the summer and I didn't have a clue why. Obviously I knew it was something to do with the heat, but I didn't have a clue about heatsinks, fans, etc. I think the fan must have just had 2 modes, low and full blast! I’ve been recommending to lift rigs off the floor. Make yourself a wooden platform you can support on a wall with a french cleat. This will reduce the dust build up in your system. Also, if you have dogs it will also keep dog hair out of your system. If you can’t put the system on the wall, put it up on a desk or another piece of furniture off the floor. The higher off the floor the better.

I cleaned our family pc a while back and it had 14 years' worth of caked-on dust inside. I HAD to open the power supply to clean it. I didn't blast it with an air compressor bc here in the south it's far too humid outside so I did it the hard way. First, I vacuumed the majority of the surface dust, then I went in with tweezers and pulled dust out of the nooks and crannies, super satisfying btw. Then I vacuumed again and used an ultra-soft car detailing brush made for delicate surfaces to get the remaining I still couldn't reach with the tweezers. After removing all the dust, I used a kid's toothbrush (bc it has super soft bristles) and lots of q-tips with isopropyl alcohol to clean all the dust residue. The PSU def took the longest to clean but was very satisfying to do. After cleaning and reassembling everything else, the computer now works perfectly!

Damn, those burnt caps on the back of the GPU. I considered myself semi retired from the tech support field, but this year I've cleaned and installed more work for friends and family that on the last 5 years, got a lot of nasty pictures of hard paste, dust mattress (yeah, mattress, not bunnies), people that tore down their laptops because they couldn't tolerate the fans and brought to me Sunday afternoon "uhhh... can you fix it? I need it to remote work Monday morning". After that they're like "wait, so the computer isn't supposed to sound like a turbo engine? I can't even listen to it and is so fast, what did you do?" heavy thermal throttling, and was usable even with an HDD after cleaning, I begged them to get an SSD because I was out of them (I buy some every now and then, again, for friends and family). Just a question, what thickness pads do you use on GPU and VRM (if it's even the same), see you changed some and leave others, I assume you didn't had that same thickness

Ohhh yeah been there before, a few times. One guy I know NEVER cleans his PCs or at least never used to. He would buy a brand new high end Computer let it run for 2+ years (never shut it off & never clean it) & they would die & he would buy a new one. I re built his last crashed Cyber Power PC & every Fan was Plugged to the point they could not spin... Sigh a simple b job every now & than would solve all that. This advice works for Dating issues too I am told

they would die? o.o my office PC has been left on 24/7 since 2008 and cleaned like once in 2017. you can't even see the mobo for the dust inside it, It's my little project I'm trying very hard to kill it but it won't die. he must've had some really shit computers...cause this thing is DOG shit but chugs on.
@nulu67673 жыл бұрын

I'll never understand this trend now of making the cables go down, like, there's already sagging happening, and instead of helping reduce it by making the cables go up you worsen it? For what? A bit of aesthetics? Which is arguable since i don't really like how it looks.
