This is actually an emotional video for me. The last fish I caught fishing with my dad before he died was a Bluefish. We cursed them (for stealing all our tackle) and loved them both at the same time. Reminds me of my hero. Thanks for sharing and God bless !!!!

Great video, Rob! My favorite way to enjoy bluefish is good old ceviche. Cube it up and cover it with lime juice. The after an hour or so, drain it off, add some olive oil, cilantro, a splash of orange juice, diced jalapeno, onion, tomato, a little garlic and avocado. Serve on your favorite tortillas. It also is very perfectly suited for smoking and fish dip.

Hay brother, many years ago my father and his friends would take me out on the Chesapeake bay and fish for big Blues and rock fish. In 1965 we got Blues and rock over 4 to 5 foot long in the day. For my grandfather was an old Geek fisherman and he told me of how to clean them and to fix them. My fiends never had Blues until I fix these fish for them. Thank you for putting this on KZbin and to teach all the new comers, that Blue fish are good to eat. God bless you and all your family members. Master Gunnery SGT USMC. I went deep sea fishing few years back, I got a huge bluefish. I was excited to bring it home to feed my family. Alot of North Eastern fishing dudes and even boat crew sneered at my fish like it was expected to toss out like trash. Took it home anyway gutted it cleaned it cut it up and cooked for family. Loved it, lots of leftovers to freeze for other days, (big blue fish). Tasted like lightly oiled tuna.

It's a huge hit at all our parties and my friends now ask me to make a batch for them all the time. Great video, catching bluefish is a blast, especially on top water lures. Thanx for the wonderful videos. I'm one of the guys who didn't like to eat Bluefish. In the mid 80's someone gave me some and they recommended I bake it. I did and it was horrible. Later I found out about bleeding it out and removing bloodline. After catching a bunch with mullet I let it marinate in some Louisiana hot sauce, chilled in fridge and wound up smoking it with Hickory chips and it was really tasty. A person I know who hated and didn't eat fish asked for more. So from then on I remember to bleed out certain fish, remove bloodlines and look for an appetizing way to prepare them (your videos are perfect for that part) before making any judgements.

Speaking of fish not commonly eaten, have ya ever considered doing a alligator gar catch clean and eat? I grew up in southeast Texas and used to catch alligator gar on the Trinity river, they fight like a tarpon and are tough to clean, but they are some good eats and a blast to catch! Times got tough down in the lone star state, so we packed up the kids and moved to Nebraska where I was born and found work, now I’m hitting sixty and doubt I’ll ever get the chance to get back down south to get another chance to catch one of those monsters again.

Absolutely true, however when you choose to post said observation to the public sphere through social media it stands to reason that someone might comment on it and the most obvious comment related to your post would be the one Jeffrey made, so I just found the situation kind of funny is all:) It's sort of like sitting on a park bench and saying out loud that you don't like pigeons and then saying "that's none of your business" when the person next to you asks why:P

I just moved to Tampa from NYC about 5 months ago. I absolutely loved and miss catching gator blues. We would get 20 lbers up there. The best most aggressive inshore fish I've ever experienced. I worked on a charter boat and there would be times there were acres of bunker being destroyed by 15-20 lb bluefish. I would use my hand to scoop up the bunker because they would stay at the boat for cover. Insane inshore fishing.
