@@backalleycqc4790 The Swedish army deploys it using 4 in each battery, and 2-3 batteries per battalion. But due to its ability to act as an artillery sniper, each gun often works semi-independently when choosing firing positions and targets, sharing support vehicles with its other battery members. Assuming it has acquired target coordinates, the "ready to shoot in 20 seconds" claim includes its ability to stop, stabilize, and be prepared to fire at a designated target. If weather conditions are unstable, adjusting for that might take a bit more but it should always be able to fire within 30 seconds in worst cases

I can tell people in the comments are having a hard time with this, so I'll explain a few things here: The Archer howitzer platform (gun and truck) is a Swedish design, built in Sweden to the Swedish Army's requirements. The UK had nothing to do with the name nor the design. Let's get that out of the way. Now, while BAE Systems nowadays owns Hägglunds and Bofors, that does not make them British companies. BAE, Hägglunds and Bofors are, in effect, separate companies. Think of it like a foreign subdivison of BAE. BAE Systems is a subsidiary holding company. Bofors is now called BAE Systems Bofors, just like Hägglunds is now called BAE Systems Hägglunds. But when you speak about them in a conversation, you usually refer to their original names. In fact, to hammer home my point: in 2019 German defence company, Rheinmetall, purchased a 55% stake in the BAE Systems combat vehicles business unit. But that doesn't make BAE or their products German. See my point? Just like Scania is owned by Volkswagen, it doesn't make them a German company. The RnD, production and test facilities are all mostly located in Södertälje, Sweden. Sure, there are offshoot factories in other countries that produce parts, trucks or work on other projects, but ultimately the company itself is still very much Swedish. Another good example is Volvo Cars. Volvo is owned by Geely, which is a Chinese company. It is still recognised globally as a Swedish brand, even though they now have production in China, India, and America. Albeit the quality of today's Volvo products can be... questionable. But that is a different topic for another day. TL;DR: It's a Swedish howitzer on a Swedish truck. The British Army bought a bunch. It's really not that hard to grasp.

The best feature of the Archer is the extreme accuracy, fully automized system, fast deployment and fast redeployment. The Ukrainian operators call it a sniper artillery, they often only fire one shell at a target because they know its got a very high chance to hit dead on with the first strike. Drawbacks is it need GPS data to do it's magic. So if the GPS satellites gets knocked out for whatever reason it's pretty much useless. The crew can feed coordinates to target on route and have a ready fire solution even before it sets up wish only takes 20-30 seconds. It can also fire volleys of multiple shots that all land at the same time.

Whilst Russia is losing artillery systems by the hundred how many Swedish Archers has the MOD purchased? Obviously I do not know but I would not be surprised if it was as low as 10. With the smallest Army since 1642, and the smallest stockpile of ammunition again since the civil war it might be better to not get involved in anything at all than having to withdraw in weeks. Get serious or give up.

@@heycidskyja4668 That’s also wrong It’s a Swedish company that’s is owned by BE systems that is British. So it’s a 100% Swedish weapon produced by a 100% Swedish company that are owned by a British company. Name of the Swedish company is BAE Systems AB The AB shows that it’s a fully Swedish company and not just a part of BEA systems main company. Also the product is own by the Swedish government so any export must be cleared there first. And no BEA Systems UK can’t transfer the product out BEA Systems AB. The majority of Russian weapons are inferior to Nato's however I do believe that Russian artillery is the exception to this rule. The Russian mobile artillery has both longer range and where Nato models only average between 1 to 3 rounds per minute the latest Russian equipment can fire out 7 rounds per minute which is a massive advantage and what's more their both faster and smaller. Russia have always been world leaders in artillery units going back as far as the first world war. The majority of casualties taken in the Ukraine war have been through artillery strikes.
@jonny29544 күн бұрын
That's just... wrong. Russias most modern howitzer deployed to Ukraine is 2S33 Msta-SM2. A maximum of 10 RPM at a range of 30 km with standard shells and 40 km with V-LAP shells with the 2A79 152 mm/L60 gun. Most modern western howitzer in Ukraine is PZH 2000. First three rounds fire in the first 10 seconds, after that 10 rounds per minute. Same range of 30 km with standard shells but 56 km with V-LAP. And note the PZH 2000 entered service in 1998. It's far from the most advanced western artillery piece. RCH 155 can fire on the move with the same fire rate and range characteristics as PZH 2000. But that's not all. Rheinmetall is currently developing a non-JBMoU-compliant 155 mm L60 gun with larger chamber for a range of 83 km with standard shells for the German Division level Artillery which requested a 75 km range for their new heavy howitzers. That will be 100+ km with V-LAP shells.
