I really hate the lack of Nuance regarding CGI. Because this isn't bad CGI, it's the uncanny valley effect it will never ever be right for that reason. Humans feature will never work whether it be CGI or Robotic. I do find it really lazy when KZbinr have talked about this but never acknowledge it. What's even more frustrating is you see the hybrid, you see the xenomorph, the ship. The background, the planets ,All great CGI which you ignore over the uncanny valley effect. I said this back in Antman 3 when everyone focused in modok, but ignoring the entire CGI world. Now I assumed you were from my generation. But maybe you're a younger . millennial. Because I tend to find gen z extremely superficial, what I mean by that is my generation grew up while CGI was developing. But we always looked past it because it was about the. Story, the performance. It's not just movies and TV shows it's gaming as well. Where people are ridiculously superficial and hyperbolic. This movie was enjoyable, it had a bit more world building , I hope we continue the story with these characters.

A very strange problem comes from this: When the powers that we are giving our primary attention to are the powers of nature, we can go from Greece to India and we can say in India, “He whom you call Indra, we call Zeus.” Alexander’s soldiers immediately understood who these Indian gods were and those who remained in Bactria as governors and rulers adopted the Indian deities without any violence done to their reverence to their own gods because these are the same gods with other names. In the sixth book of The Gallic Wars, Caesar discusses the local religion of the conquered Celtic Gauls, but he uses the Roman names for the gods, so we don’t know what Celtic gods he is talking about.11 This is known as syncretism, and it is the mode of most of the religions of the world. Hindus are enormous syncretists, and Buddhists had no problem with this either. The Egyptian priests were such syncretists that when the little villages along the Nile finally were incorporated into one great empire, the two realms of northern and southern Egypt, they couldcombine those local mythologies easily. So the great big mythology of Isis and Nephthys and Osiris are combined mythologies, but they cohere properly in mythological terms.

I'll definitely call Romulus a swooning love letter to the entire Alien universe. We get the first act of Alien, the action of Aliens, and the weird off the wall of Alien 3/Resurrection. The number of references and callbacks were really enjoyable for me. Some might call the first 30 minutes slow, but the world building of a WY colony is the type of expansion the Alien universe needs, lest it will get stale.

@@wadimek116wasn’t that because of the Black Goo from Prometheus that Weyland was after on the station? There was a line about how it basically speeds up and advances evolution in life forms. And since the pregnant girl is the one who injects herself with it, and since the look of the hybrid seems to be a mixture of Human + Xenomorph + Engineer. My guess is the black goo combined with the foetus/embryo and turned into what we see on screen. The face looks just like an engineer’s head with it being a pale and bald head with the dark eyes and it being far taller than a regular Xenomorph which comes from a standard human.

@@Max2nice my guess, and this is my own personal headcanon, yes that is exactly what it is. With how the Xenomorph seemingly use adapting, evolution and survival to their advantage, I would imagine that in certain situation a chestburster can quickly form itself a cocoon to gestate inside of. Sort of like how in expanded media such as the Comics and Games, a regular Alien can sometimes evolve itself into a queen in desperate times in order to try and continue the species.

After my second viewing I noticed a lot more about David Johnsson's Andy character. The whole time when he has the chip implanted, everyone thinks he's a different person who took over or something. But I think he's actually the same person and completely aware the entire time. He chooses to betray Rain and prioritize the company because Rain planned on letting him die once they reach their destination. This is supported their conversation when she asks him why he left Kay, "How could you do that?" "Do what? Leave someone behind?" Along with a few other key moments. Realizing this made me appreciate the story much more. It really is a great film.

What I was sort of wondering/hoping was that after Kay injected herself with the Black Goo, it would either mutate her (or the fetus, or both, horrifically) into what would become the Queen (or a progenitor) in Aliens. This Xenobaby that looks somewhere between the Newborn in Ressurections and an Engineer (making the creation/creator idea a chicken/egg paradox) was both unexpected and just…horrifying. The callbacks and references were fun, albeit a tad overdone (honestly it didn’t need them, especially the very direct ones like Andy quoting Ripley). Ultimately, well done to all in this film! 👏

Rook says that since the Nostromo incident Weyland had been searching for the wreckage and the Alien remains. 20 yrs of searching and Weyland find Big Chap 170 days before the events in Romulus. The ship that finds the cocoon is fully automated without crew so it had probably been out there searching the area for many years, maybe even the whole 20yrs before it finally finds the cocoon. The ship was in dormant/stand by mode till its sensors detect the cocoon and then after it brings the cocoon on board an automatic command protocol activates and it heads of to Romulus space station with the cocoon.

I only had two(ish) issues with this movie: -Time management, it feels like the idea was to add tension through the imminent collision with the asteroid belt, but I never felt pressure from that, it was mostly a background thing, that forced the script into speeding the growth of the creatures. An alien that grows to 2 meters in the span of hours (4-5) would be reasonable to me(at least give it time to find matter to stuff himself with), they just had make the crew into doing something else like correcting the trajectory of the space station, or running a scan through the station to see if there was movement or other life sings on the ship (maybe foreshadowing the awakening hive) or salvage useful things for their new life. -The lack of something that made the movie different. To me it felt like they clamped together succesful scripts of previous iterations. I actually have what I could consider a third issue,being xenomorphs have way too much clear screen time. To me the best part of the original movie is the tone dictated by the unseen threat, we mostly get glimpses of it and it really helps to sell the innate fear of something alien. But this is much more of a me issue than a real critique, overall I found the movie entertaining and enjoyable , it defied my, quite frankly, low expectations, by being a good product that might get the franchise on the right tracks for the future. Sorry if i made some grammar mistakes and/or if my explanations are badly written, English isn't my mothertongue and lately I haven't had the chance to speak or write much.

And mutant engineers just aren’t as visually scary (to me) as what we saw on screen for the previous 90 minutes. It took me out of it. That and the cast’s youth besides Andy. Hell, I rooted for (upgraded) Andy the whole time simply because he felt like the only adult in the room.

Personally the last thing I ever want from an alien film is for it to tie up with ridley scott's gobbledygook from prometheus/covenant. The alien was scary because it was ALIEN and stood in for the unknowable horror of space. Being the result of a science project from a floppy haired robot is not scary or interesting.

Would like to point out some fascinating fetures I really enjoyed. First - we see some new, yet minor details about the xenomorph lifecycle: what happens in between a chestbuster and a full-grown alien. Second - a swarm of facehuggers, not sure if for the first time (AvP 2? Isolation?), yet quite spooky and realistic. The third - two synthetics interacting with each other, wish that was explored more. And, finnally, - that subtle "engineering thinking", often seen in anime and some videogames, when characters discuss how to solve a new technical challenge. That even gave me vibes of Geordy and Data from Star Trek!

Yeah! Good takes! It's the first time in a movie that they show a 'second' stage for transformation. So first chestburster 'larvae' stage, which then cocoons into that love sacc and from there emerges as a full grown xeno! I always wondered is there a cocoon stage or are they like growing from that larvael form and we'd possibly see some tadpolesque mini xenos! But now it's settled that there is a cocoon stage! Was watching an Alien vs Predator old school arcade run and even in that they have these sacks from which xenos emerge from! Did some of the other PC avp games have like these dwarf xeno growth stage? Never played those unfortunately!

Soooo this is what I put together, the pregnant lady who injected herself with the black goo gave birth to a Engineer/alien. If the bio extract was taken from a Engineer instead of the parasite we might’ve seen the natural birth of a Engineer. Correct me if I’m wrong. I’ve seen the movie but the ending is the only thing that confuses me a little. The black goo is supposed to be the life in its primal unadulterated form which I think is a mistake; it came from the parasite because it was mentioned the parasite was bioengineered. Meaning It does contain the essence of life in its entirety but also what makes the aliens “alien”. If it had been extracted from a Engineer the result would’ve been different that’s why the alien Looked like a mix of the Engineer and had the tail , double mouth , back and other features of a Zenomorph. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong but I’m feeling spot on. I’ve seen the alien franchise and love the Prometheus movie.

Another thing which bothers me is that the pregnant woman after falling and totally wrecking her body when she wakes up from that her stomach moves violently but this is before she takes the goo injection; so what causes that movement? Her own pregnancy did not seem to be at a stage where the baby fetus could move like that and because she hadn't taken the goo yet that couldn't be the reason for that.. One theory a friend of mine had is.. and it's a little out there but let's see.. If during the time that she was unconscious a facehugger managed to do it's business it might have been the first stages of a chest burster growing and that could maybe enforce the idea that if there was a human fetus, a chest burster larvae and the engineer like black goo; maybe that's why the creature was a combo of an engineer and a xeno. Maybe the goo combined all 3? I do think though that in the beginning of the movie one of the xenomorphs ignored the pregnant lady because maybe human pregnancy messes up facehugger success? If that's the case then I don't know why a facehugger would go for her if the facehugger can also see it as a risk.. Confusing!

The Hybrid was amazing. Made me feel real and genuine unease and terror for the first time in a sci-fi movie. Am I the only one that noticed that its legs/hips looked very odd, almost like they were dislocated or deformed in some way? Could've been an error, but my theory is that when Kay fell out of the ship when fleeing the Alien, the fetus inside her was either seriously injured or possibly even killed. This would explain why the Hybrid's legs/hips, and possibly other body parts I didn't notice were a bit disfigured.

I liked a lot about this movie. So I'll just mention what I didn't like: My Main issue with this movie is that the Scorched Xenomorph kinda does too little. It's on the cover of all the posters and it's in the merch but it really doesn't do a lot. And I feel like the movie burns through characters too quickly for it to really have a moment to do more. Very quickly after the chestbursting scene it's already hatching from the cocoon. It immediately takes out Bjorn with its acid. From here I was expecting it to stalk Kay for a while until they would later reunite at the door but that all happened very fast. After it takes away Kay it sits outside the room when they get the pulse rifles. And then the next scene there's so many of them and the movie immediately turns into Aliens. I was really hoping for some time for there to be some encounters with Scorched before so many other Xenomorphs got involved. You sorta get that with the elevator scene but Andy quickly kills it and delivers one of the more cringe dialogue callbacks: "Get away from her... You bitch." The deepfake effect for Rook looked terrible. Was it cool to see an android like Ash again? Yes. Was it needed? No. It is an effect that you really gotta push yourself to ignore because of how much it stands out. Another dialogue callback that I did not like was: "I can't lie to you about your chances, but you have my sympathies." Atleast I can excuse this one because it is the same model of android. But still. Showing what happened to the rat and then Kay injecting herself immediately let us know exactly what was gonna happen. I think it would've been way more interesting if we didn't know and instead when she was in labour we'd find out that she injected herself when she'd turn her head. Overall I still feel very mixed on the movie simply because of how little the Xenomorphs actually do. Suppose I was hoping for the crew to go through a bit of an Alien Isolation situation with Scorched before stumbling upon the hive. I think the movie needed maybe 30 more minutes. I'll have to watch it again to know how I truly feel because there's some excellent things about this movie. But also some lows.

I though the baby died near the xenomorph egg which I though was from the asian girl from facehugger not able to fully grow it as they took it off too early with cryo? And xenomorphs were already long there before they got there, hence why they were so many but otherwise I mainly hated how quickly they transformed when in original movies it took hours for the burst to happen not 10 minutes or less, I hate the unrealistic 46 minutes time they got to get it all done before explosion which isn't realistic as their new at the ship lol.

Can someone answer some questions for me: 1. Why is Andy put in cryo sleep at the end? He's an android, he doesn't need to sleep, I think. 2. If the vials are so precious for the company, why isn't like a 100 company ships looking for it? And how come a group of teenagers managed to find it (first)? 3. You see a huge ass space station floating in space, coming towards your planet, and nothing is done about it? Government or the company is not sending anyone out to explore? 4. This one just bothered me, when rain said to Andy "Do what you wish to do". He is an android, he has no wishes, he is a robot. There were multiple instances where it wouldn't make sense to talk to him in a certain way, since everyone knows he's a robot. Maybe these are stupid question, but I can't find the answers :)

No, these are not stupid questions, these are some very good questions! When I saw how close that station was to the planet my immediate initial reaction was a question; how is that thing out there just drifting and floating so close to a planet, AND NO BODY IS BOTHERED BY IT? Where are the rescue ships, or the right authorities or whatever the hell such things are called in the future 😂 dealing with a fucking drifting space station ffs?! How the hell can a ship with a couple of teens get so close to it, let alone dock onto it and then just roam around freely inside??? Right? Wth? This momentum from the get go kinda was a deal breaker to me tbh... At this point I was like 'is this movie gonna be like this all over...?' (thank god turns out it wasnt mostly. Mostly...) 1. It was because he was damaged, Ripley did the same thing putting bishop into cryo sleep at the end of Aliens cause he was damaged too. 2. It was only in a question of hours that the Station was going to explode because of the collision with *THE RINGS* not the planet which is what happened in the movie so there was no problem. Also, the company is the one which ruled both the station and the colony so the “government” of it probably would already know but they didnt receive any orders to go there, it would kill their entire colony so it wouldn’t make any sense. 4. In the whole movie you can clearly see that Rain doesn’t see Andy as a Robot or an unreal being. She’s told that many times throughout the movie but she keeps refusing it, she literally grew up with him. I hope I answered all of your questions and doubts! :) you’re welcomee

14:56 - "Weyland-Yutani will likely try and get to her". How would they do that? Unless Rook or upgraded-Andy somehow contacted the company, they'd have no idea that the events of the movie even happened. The Romulus-Remus station is gone (not that there was any urgency for them to reclaim it in the first place), and WY doesn't even know Rain went off-planet.

My overall opinion was that the film was okay, and from a technical standpoint, solid. But I didn't really see the point to it ultimately. Which is pretty much what I expected, in that they played it safe with a heavy reliance of nostalgia and spot the callbacks. First half was like Alien, the second more Aliens (then goes a bit Prometheus/Reserrection for the climax). There was also quite a bit too much of 'tell rather than show' going on I felt.

Re the "Rock Cluster". "Unbeknownst to them something else came aboard with that though...". Unbeknownst? Really? The computer screen indicates they secured an asset. The "shell" shown remaining reveals they cut the Xenomorph out quite precisely. It's possible they weren't sure what they were bringing on-board but they'd obviously scanned it, so I'd be surprised if they didn't know what to look for and then secured the "rock" (cocoon)

Also seems that Rook (the broken android) implies that the first dead alien we see hanging in the roof is the original one as it 'caused them a lot of trouble'. So they shot it, it melted the floor and Rook in half. Then the other scientists re-engineered the DNA to make face huggers while leaving the mess in place.

There were definitely good parts to the movie, but ultimately I wasn’t super satisfied. Many liken it to ‘Rogue One’ for the Alien franchise, but I’d say it’s more like ‘The Force Awakens’, in the sense that it essentially rehashed old plot/story beats as a way of trying to rekindle old fans. Yes, Prometheus was somewhat flawed; but ultimately it did something different and deeply expanded the alien series Mythos. On the other hand, this is an Alien movie that simply combines plot points/story beats from Alien, Aliens, and Alien Resurrection, and from a creative standpoint, that’s not amazing. The director likened aspects to Alien: Isolation, but we already have that, just like we have Alien, Alien2 etc. we don’t need it again, tell a creatively different story with the universe.

@Wazszsa
@Wazszsa 2 ай бұрын
@@kahmaal14 oh yeah for sure, I’m not saying there weren’t ANY unique aspects. It’s just, it’s not enough, it’s more like a tiny sprinkling of new over the old majority. There were a few new things in The Force awakens too, buts still, beat-for-beat it was just A New Hope - And with this movie, story-wise, it’s just the Quadrilogy + Isolation Rerun. The director was very open about how they wanted to return to the old movies, and was quite dismissive of the more broadly creative stuff like Prometheus. Ultimately this movie was a hollow nostalgia fest, with a few positives hiding in there.

It was so bad. Aliens now develop in 2 minutes flat to full form. Face huggers only need 2 minutes to implant now and can be disrupted and removed but still achieved their goal in the first 2 minutes? 1 woman was able to take out hiw many fully grown xenomorphs with 1 mag? Yet 30 odd years later a squad of marines cannot seem to achieve the same level of accuracy as a random girl? Yeh it was a fun movie but it was a waste in my opinion. Why not just finish the story they started with prometheus?

The movie started very strong until the first face hugger victim and was still okish with hints of greatness after that. When the 3rd act kicked in after the escape from the station I heard several loud sighs in the cinema and noone left the theater with enthusiasm and praise. The ending did not work in Alien: Ressurection and I found it even worse here. The hybrid was not scary or cool in any way. When I heard about standing ovations after test screenings, those people either might never have seen an alien movie or were only shown parts of it. It just feels like noone got a good idea where to go with the series, as the aliens themselves in this movie do not feel scary anymore and whenever sb. got an idea where to go with the franchise it ends up in a turd. The visuals and sound design were great though (minus the hybrid)
