Civil engineer here, 7-figure net worth before age 40. Not surprised that engineers turn into millionaires. Engineers tend to be unemotional investors and relate to numbers better than most folks. In college I took an engineering finance class and in that 1 semester we covered 2 years' worth of the financial math that the number-cruncher business students learn. Compared to the other math that engineers have to learn and apply, financial calculations are simple.

Everyone has their story and believe me becoming rich has nothing to do with degrees. The top tech companies were all started by college drop outs, not engineers or doctors or accountants. It's all about the skills you possess and how you utilize them. Does a degree help? Most definitely. But your subject knowledge and your application skills matter more. I myself am a military vet, with an Electric and Computer Engineering and an Economics bacelors degree with 2 masters and a Phd. So believe me I value education, but education and learning and a degree are not the same thing. For me, I made my money after my MBA after I started to learn how the business world works. Not the "night class" MBA nonsense. A full time MBA that takes 2-3 years. If it's not AASCB accredited don't touch their MBA. If you're getting an education, do it the right way. But because of my knowledge I've been able to create multiple income streams which have helped me become a HNW individual. The formula is simple, it's the execution that's a challenge. That's why everyone's path to success is different.

Your first thing about drop outs is very misleading. The people who found companies like that are already extremely intelligent and talented and will do great things regardless of degrees. Not for the normal person
@TheTraffic2474 жыл бұрын
Being talented and intelligent is barely half the recipe. It's unwavering will, dedication and consistency that pays off in the long run. Look around you, some of the most talented and smart folks are working for someone with a vision for great things. Not the most talented or intelligent folks. Everyone is normal, as you put it, till they choose to be more.
@ryanstrohman74294 жыл бұрын
@@TheTraffic247 I admit that traits such as willpower are perhaps the most important thing when it comes to success and that intelligence does not imply drive. The difference is that, since I don't think a drive to improve is linked to cognitive ability and is consequently found in anyone, regardless of ability, it is much easier for those who happen to have innate intelligence and consciously choose to want more to succeed because it's all about feedback and fulfillment. Whether you agree or not, people compare themselves to each other, and it is exceedingly difficult for someone who's busting their ass studying and preparing and studying and preparing to stay motivated when someone comes along and blows pass them without a sweat. I'm not saying that intelligence in and of itself is the key to success, but since anyone can have that will to be, the successful ones will have both.
@TheTraffic2474 жыл бұрын
Drive to improve is not linked to cognitive ability anymore than it is to being successful. Success doesn't come from merely being smarter than folks around you, trust me I've seen enough in life to know that. Often the most motivated to succeed are not necessarily the smartest. They commit themselves to what they want to achieve by working harder. Now if you find a certain field of study easier than others and you work hard, then you'll do well in it. But in business, like in life, it's your social skills that are most important if not the most important. Success in life has a lot more ingredients than you believe.

hi grade 12 here 😊
@andrewheffel9285 жыл бұрын
@@mjc7172 Perfect, you are grade 12. I am 66 and retired. Here is some well intentioned free advice if you wish to hear it. I did not go to college. I struggled to make money all thru my twenties. I was pretty poor. I got my first career oriented job at age 32. Life was tough, but by the grace of God I worked my way up and ended up doing well. My wife and I were able to send our two sons thru college. We insisted they pick a major they could earn a living with. One studied finance, the other studied marketing, both got good jobs right out of college. And both are pretty happy. The younger one can draw, and was always interested in art. My suggestion to him was to pursue his art on the side, and he does. Now that he is in marketing, he may combine his artistic skills with his career. Both sons are able to pursue interests other than work because they have the income to do things that interest them. So here comes the advice: find something you think you would be good at and that makes money. It could be anything you like, medical, business, engineering, law, construction management, law enforcement, the hospitality industry (hotel management), anything you think you could do and that could be a career. And then find a college that has a good department for what you want to do, and get a 4 year degree, and get a good job. Once you are out in the world with a career, you will find new opportunities as you develop professionally. Your major won't decide your future, but it will open some doors. Good luck, may you succeed in whatever you choose! But be careful. If you pick a major like history of Italian sculpture, you will have a really tough time finding a job.

I’m amazed how MBAs make so much money when a scary amount of successful startups get driven into the dirt when their founders step back from the top and MBAs take over executive control. Lots of businesses fail because the person with the dream and drive leaves and the mbas step in to drain all the life out of the business.

I think it depends on the country in which you live because the degrees listed here in my country they ain't millionaires and a lot of them even work in call centers. Engineers are unemployed, people with business degrees are working regular money and some unemployed....The only people in my country that are millionaires are members of parliament, doctors and large business owners. Also I strongly believe medicine should be on this list because surgery ain't cheap and medications aren't cheap. Never met a doctor who wasn't rich. Math and physics... about 90% of your undergrad classes will be based around mathematics and physics. Also work on time management, it’s a very work heavy degree, expect on average 6-8 hours of homework a night plus constant projects, expectations to participate in clubs and internships. The material is not necessarily hard to grasp, but the rate at which you need to learn it and the fact that you have to retain the knowledge and use it in every other subsequent class makes it overwhelming for a lot of people. Other than that, engineering is a fun subject to study. Just be prepared to work hard.

Shane, wealth is not money you can touch with your bare hands, but rather the accumulated value of the capital invested. It is something popularly known in economic terms as CAPITAL GAINS. Therefore, simply holding any of these degrees you have mentioned will not automatically "produce" wealth, even with a six-figure salary earned by the degree holder. Let me give you an example to illustrate what I mean. Suppose one owns property that goes up in value in a given year by $100,000 and another person earns the same amount of money in cash in the same year, are the earnings of the two people equal or not? They are not because the first one is CAPITAL GAINS while the second one is ORDINARY INCOME. The first person will not incur any taxes at all on that gain in the value of the property while the second will be taxed heavily as a six-figure income earner. The first person has acquired wealth, while the second has not. Hence, the saying that wealth is created by CAPITAL GAINS and not WAGES. It is better to earn CAPITAL GAINS than earning WAGES, whether one holds any of these degrees or not.

I have an accounting degree and yes it sometimes pays off if you come from a great school and end up in partner postions. The thing is, accounting is miserable and I couldn't deal with it for more than 2 years. I quit my job and am now back in school for CS. STEM major curriculum is night a day difference is comparison to business. Business school was a joke. You think you'll learn to invest by majoring in finance but you dont. Nobody knows how to play the market, it's not predictable. The people who control the market are the billion dollar hedge funds using AI to do high frequency computer trading. You literally can't beat the market. The safest and most logical bet is to invest in funds like ETFs. You dont learn how to be a business man in business school, you learn how to work for a business man. Yes the service industry is booming but the business corporate life is fucking borinnnngggggg affffff. You dont get any feeling of accomplishment from "preparing the best tax return" or "making the greatest journal entry". On the other hand STEM majors feel a sense of accomplishment because they create stuff that is meaningful. Did an accountant get us to the moon? Did an accountant create the flu vaccine? Did an accountant create KZbin, Facebook, twitter, instagram etc....no an accountant didn't do shit. Accounting has no freedom, no ability to create something cool, and no sense of fulfillment. My opinion is that only STEM majors are worth going to college for nowadays. A lot of people forget how much tradesman make. A good, respectable, reliable, and professional tradesman will far surpass the earnings of any 9-5 job. They work less hours and make triple what a regular worker makes. Yes their work is a bit more physically demanding but we have all this technology and new tools coming out daily that make their jobs easier and quicker. The trades will become increasingly valuable because more people are attending college and the number enrolling in trades is going down. You want a good investment? Take up a trade. More often than not your local millionaire owns a construction business and never went to college.

@VKGZ134 жыл бұрын
@@kharla.97 i did not apply to any other jobs. I was supposed to go into auditing right after graduation, but I just wasn't a fan of the whole industry and the people in it tbh. I couldve done finance, but again I want to be doing something of value, not trying to sell people on mutual funds they dont need. I've decided not to pursue the second bachelors degree, instead I'm going to finish my associate's this year and look for a job. I might apply to a good coding bootcamp just to gain some real world practice and experience, as well as create some projects for companies to see. I dont think going for the second bachelors degree, and paying upwards of 80k for 2 1/2 years, is worth it. If I can land a job next summer I can work for 2 years and I'll be at the same spot the person with the 4 year degree is, but with 2 years of experience and probably higher pay. We'll see how it goes, but def the second bachelors isnt happening. It's not worth it, especially for coding jobs because its completely uneccesary. You can learn to code on your own or at a bootcamp for a fraction of the cost. Bootcamp grads average 70k salary, and that's the average salary of people with 4 year degrees that spent 60k+ on their education. I agree, the options I will have with 2 degrees is such a bonus. Having accounting experience and coding experience is a plus. Def will increase me pay, because I'm looking to make no less than 100k a year.
@kharla.974 жыл бұрын
Viktor Zguro I’m assuming you’re in America? 80k is ridiculous for a degree! 😭 I’m also an accounting major (for the stability more than anything lol) and starting to take interest in coding myself so I’ve asked my brother where I should start since he knows some coding himself. Will be doing some self studying soon. I wish I started it 4 months ago when I had more time. Good luck on your plans, I’m sure you’ll do amazing!
@VKGZ134 жыл бұрын
@@kharla.97 yes in America, if you go to a good private college, its about 40k a year before financial aid. Me having a degree already eliminates the eligibility for financial aid, because I already used it for the first degree. So I would be paying full price, which is 40k year for 2 1/2 years. I think having a degree is beneficial when trying to apply for jobs as opposed to only having a coding certificate. So that's why I am doing this CS associates degree, which is free for me because the whole pandemic unemployment bonus basically paid for it all. I started the associates degree last summer, and I'll be done next summer. I have 3 classes left to take and I'm done. I have to really study this year to be able to land a job by next year. Most of the guys you see on KZbin who went to coding bootcamps and got into big tech firms, already have degrees. That's why they get in. Having only a coding bootcamp certificate is kind of not respectable, so that's why I think the associates degrees and the coding bootcamp certificate will be the best option as opposed to a 4 year degree. Afterall, traditional 4 year degrees dont teach you how to code in the real world, you learn all the concepts, theories, and history etc... The bootcamps are the ones that really teach you how to code for real work. You can learn how to code on your own, but you'll spend a lot of time trying to do so. That's why they've developed the coding bootcamps. They have everything there for you and you'll learn it all in 4 months. The value proposition makes sense. Doing a 4 year degree is unnecessary when theres people doing bootcamps for 4 months making 70k a year.

Dude but which college you go to and how competitive you are, how good you are at networking matters a lot when we talk about wealth generation. Eg finance degree from harvard and one from county college makes a huge difference. Lastly your networking will be the key to wealth
