Thanks for that. I was really wanting to see it on the tape residue. I have that because the dealer service guys pressure blasted my car and tore the decal. I noticed a week later, so of course it could not have been them... I tried everything to get the adhesive off. Even Mostenbockers failed. Now for an eraser wheel. Follow up to this comment. I had tried everything to get the old adhesive off. Heatgun, cutting wax, Dr Mostenbockers, even a razor blade, nothing shifted it. Bought one of these wheels. Took the adhesive off in 2 minutes. Quick polish and it looks like it was never there.

You're gonna think I'm crazy, but I was a reset manager for Lowe's for a long time and we used California Scents Citrus air freshener spray to get double sided tape off painted steel beams. The tape would just melt and you clean it right off. Mint👌

I'm going to vouch that this absolutely works. I spent hours trying to get some weird film that was on my toyota echo off. I used a cordless heat gun, goo off, and plastic scrapers. It would have taken hours. The eraser wheel took less than 10 minutes. Wow, this is a really neat trick!

You don't have to use adhesive remover, if you keep the whizzy wheel in place itll keep eating through. Also corded drill works better more rpms the better up to 4000rpm max. I used this to remove clear bra adhesive on about 1/3 of my Audi A4 hood and there's plenty of where left to use

If you have anything more than a small amount of work to do, get a 3M pinstripe removal wheel and the company’s automotive adhesive remover. The wheel is crazy expensive - more than $40 at this writing - but after hours of use with it and two cheaper knockoffs, the 3M wins. I had to remove a 15-year-old 3M Clear Bra from the hood of a Lexus, and the 3M wheel was the only one to do so without piles of dusty residue. And despite the enormous amount of material that had to be removed, the 3M was the only wheel that did no damage to the clear coat whatsoever. The other wheels left slight marring that had to be removed with compound and polish. Also, in the video the drill bounces like crazy. Holding it another way, if you can, makes for a smoother action. Hold the drill in your left hand, palm facing and parallel to the work surface. Steady the top of the drill with your left hand and work from right to left. I had no trouble using a Makita battery-powered drill and two 5 amp-hour batteries. Charge per battery lasted 40 minutes or more, and each battery was recharged by the time I needed it. While rubbing alcohol was fairly adequate for removal of residual adhesive, the 3M product was vastly better.

I wish I knew about this sooner. We spent hours chipping away at adhesive with different chemicals and plastic scrapers, eventually I ended up just sanding down the top of my doors and re painting it because I got frustrated. Thanks for the tip, I'm grabbing one of those things asap

I debadged my motorcycle today but the adhesive was ridiculous! I tried every chemical I had with no results. I tried lacquer thinner, paint thinner, adhesive remover from three different companies, 89 octane and 91 octane gasoline. Out of all that, the 89 octane worked the best but still too slow. I'll hit the automotive paint store up tomorrow and hopefully find an eraser wheel. Thank You!

Did the same trim removal on a Cherokee. Used fishing line cut the foam tape behind the trim to avoid prying and damaging tape. Eraser wheel removed the rest.

If memory serves, WJ cladding is held on with plastic clips. I am sure there is a way to get them off cleanly, but I don't know if the final product will look as clean as on the XJ

Use "wax and grease remover" from any auto paint supply store. Put some on a rag and wipe off any glue residue.

For decals, I use plastic trim piece removers. I haven't scratched my paint yet because I don't apply a lot of pressure on the paint. For the left over residue, I use a microfiber cloth and wipe it away

This wheel works amazing! I ran it at a low RPM with my drill and YES the Cherokee looks better with out that plastic junk! I used the name brand Wonder Wheel though but same concept

@@Ryan-de9oh I don't know what you mean by debadge. I removed pinstriping and decals from my 2004 king ranch. Then wiped those areas down with rubbing alcohol. I think I had to sparingly use goof off or mineral spirits too on some areas. After everything was off I washed it and waxed it. It looked great with no signs of removed decals, pin striping.

Pro tip: when you buy a car from a dealership discuss the price, warranty, all that stuff, and the very last thing you say before you sign on the dotted line is that they're going to take the dealership decal off the back. At that point in the negotiations, after they've wasted 2 hours they'll gladly do for you it if it means they'll make the sale

I also have black paint so if it would have scratched it or damage the paint I’d easily be able to see and it didn’t. I highly recommend getting an eraser wheel for any type of adhesive removal on anything you don’t wanna damage what’s underneath

@@4pf6abyy73 thanks man! Just ordered my eraser wheel from amazon. Going to be finally getting all the goop off from where I debadged my 2010 g37. I tried litterally everything, and even the highest grades of goo gone, and no amount of elbow grease was going to get that last layer of rough goop off - the top layer is nothing to peel off, but after years of having badges being baked under the sun that last layer is damn near apart of the paint at that point.

I have glue on my paint... its expanding foam or spray glue... rock hard... what do you reckon this work? Paint shop tried polisher machine didn't touch it tried all types of safe chemicals.

Yikes.. that spray foam stuff is NO joke. My guess is that anything tough enough to get through it is going to be hard on paint. I think you will need to find some kind of chemical which will dissolve the foam, but is harmless to paint. Get the Safety Data Sheet for the spray foam then look for solvents which attack the main ingredients, but are harmless to paint... a lot of work, but that is all I got. haha

I’m not sure if you said it but be careful that adhesive doesn’t have a bunch of dirt and debris in it. I scratched the hell outta my paint because there was tons of dirt embedded in the adhesive tape.

I’d use a heat gun and a plastic putty knife to get the wrap off then an eraser wheel to get off whatever adhesive is left over. Since it’s been a year I bet you probably already did it but in case anyone reading this in the future is in the same spot that would probably work best.

Don’t forget to use a heat gun when taking off the trim pieces. Heating it up makes it come off easier and leaves less residue to begin with. Just use a plastic putty knife and ease it off slowly. The eraser wheels are really nice to have in the tool collection though.

Just tried some cheap disc off Amazon and what a mess. at 600 RPM just smeared letters around, at 2200 RPM smoke and huge layer of the wheel on top of the mess. I watched some video with cheap flat, cheap jagged like this, and 3m, this style generated more heat for some reason, and took way longer to remove a decal, the 3m was the best about 1 minute, the cheap look-alike 4 minutes and this style 11 minutes.. what solvent is safe to use to remove the crud left behind, did not wish to harm finish, put a 2015 rust free box onto my 1977 squarebody and like the shiny black paint...
