Got my first bike in 2011, was a chinese hosing. I couldn't find a manual on it and I never knew much about bike mechanics, but after watching your videos, mainly the bandit build I was able to pick up a few bits and pieces and save myself a bit if money. I've contemplated the purchase of an ABM or LSL handlebar conversion kit for months now. I also considered this option but out of fear of damaging the Top Yoke, I avoided such project. ALAS, the great Delboy manage's to do it with ease. My wrist, shoulders, lower back and lastly posture, thank you infinitely for longer saddle time and my pockets are grateful to you also my good friend. This one video saved me roughly $500(US).

Glad you made this video, as I remember a few years back asking on a forum about drilling the top yoke when I was considering streeting a FZR and was told by everyone that replied not to as it would weaken the yoke to much. Now I know I'm safe to if I ever get a project again to play with

+Callyuk It can weaken it if you drill in the wrong place, but we were very lucky with this one as it had some handy thick mounting points designed for holding the clip-on's... if we hadn't had that, i would have replced the top yoke with a slab..

I just purchased the same Renthal bars because I snapped my stock ones when I went down. All I can say is that they are super comfy. I would usually rest my left hand on my lap when going down long straight roads but I haven't needed to with these bars.

That looks beefy enough. Although, personally, I would never dare to bore a hole anywhere on that piece of aluminum. But, given that aluminum is really a soft metal, you don't need to be too much worried about breakage ;-) Good job as ever!

+Abouzar Kaboudian Exaclty that Abouzar, the cast alloy is pretty soft and forgiving, if it fails, it will be in the form of a plit, and ill just replace it with a slab yoke..

Looks great!....... gets me thinking about Ginger the Speed Four. Since it's apparent that Triumph has snagged a pile-o Kawka parts out of the bin for my 2003 Speedy, it's possible my top yoke has a similar design. I need to give it a look-see under to see if it can be drilled out for risers and some Renthal bars. But first I scored a set of black stone guards for my bug-eye headlights. Got to sort that out first, then Melly's bike. But getting a set of tracker bars will make Ginger a lot more comfortable to ride and I would be able to mount nice bar end mirrors. More projects! Yay. Hi. Interesting stuff. zx7rs make great streetfighters. Standard position zx7rs are a bit wristy and the weight distribution of a streetfighter makes the relatively hard ride , softer.Plus you can chuck them around better and tour too. I have a p3 and along with my 350lc are probably my favourites. zx7r forks are some of the best you can get on a standard bike.

Simple Skills - any chance of doing one on drilling e.g. what drills to use and on what materials, what speed to drill at, how to tell if the drill is blunt and what to do, how much pressure to apply, whether to use a lubricant etc.

+Chillibob Bob Yes Bob, the Evans coolant boils at about 180c, so it wont vaporise anywhere near in the motor... menaing, no vapour, no expansion..

Around 12 years ago(ish),I fightered the first VFR I had,and fitted Raask riser clamps which clamp onto the top of the RWU fork.Very simple idea,and quick.Dunno if they still make them,but they would suit someone who doesn't want to drill the top yolk.I got them cheap off Ebay.BTW Del,where's the RSV...or have I missed something.?

hello nice conversion, on my gsxf it was more easy without drilling, the only thing im wondering its vibration...what about some stong rubber washers under the clamps where you drilled the holes?just a small idea...i dont know if its bad or very bad:)

Hi Delboy great video, you've saved me alot hassle here. Just a quick question, I'm doing a Streetfighter build on my old 1990 ZZR 600 and was wondering can I stick ZX7R Inverted Forks on my ZZR 600?

Hi buddy.. not straight on as im sure you realise.. you'd need to use the 7R yokes, and that means measuring up the frame stem to see if it's the same as the 7R, if its the same height, and the stems are the same diameter, then in theory it should fit in for a test fit at least... then be guided by what hassles that throws up..... if the stem tube and bearing sizes arent compatible, then you're into having custom parts made to make it fit.... Remember buddy, anything can be made to fit anything.. its just how much you can do yourself, and if you have the determination. Good luck with it buddy.. Del.

@@thefightingmick7192 Hi Gav, no problem mate... these old ones where 2nd hand ones from Ebay, but if you want some really cool ones, then TEC Bike Parts offer some 28mm clamps with fat bars to go in them, meaning they're 28mm at the clamp and they taper down to 7/8th for your switch gear and grips, like streetfighter taper bars... if you check out TEC Bike Parts website, they have them on there!

I've got a gsxr I'm doing the same thing too but all I got is the thin milled out underside of yoke.....I don't know if it's to thin to be safe. I'm thinking of putting few washers or spacers on under side but don't know if it'll make difference......any ideas?

Hi Mike, yes mate, it is entirely possible, and quite safe, but you will need a bit more than just some washers... if you can make some alloy blocks to go under there, something about 10mm thick at least, drill through them so the clamps pass through...and as wide as possible to fill the space you have... they will spread the loads placed on the yoke when you bolt down through them...as long as you bolt down tight to the blocks, the thinner metal of the yoke will be supported.. its not ideal, but it'll get you out of trouble....maybe have a look to see if there is a top yoke available to swap over...or even take that tope yoke to an engineering shop, hand it over and say "make me that as a slab, and get them to even drill through where the clamps will go....ive done that in the past and it only cost me £40..! hope that helps.. Hi buddy, good question... yes, there was an issue... I had to re-route the throttle cables, not shorten them, they came out the frame to the right of the head stock, so I just pulled them back in under the tank, and fed them out through the left side, which gave them a longer path to the throttle... and perfectly ate up the excess!

Mike T yes it did, the size of the drill bit required for pro taper mounts is a 1/2 inch drill bit. make sure you also have plenty of washers as well to fill in the excess space between the threads and yoke . heres an image of it i.imgur.com/GLJJRjI.jpg

Thats exactly where i drilled mine, took the holes out to 10mm, just enough to drop the clamp bolts through... and its beefy enough there to hold them..!

+Stephen Marriott Hi mate, thanks for your input, we are trying to combine both here, the idea we are going with is a couple of short mid-week ideos to keep things on the boil and keep viewers up to date, and a big video at the weekend to sit down with a coffee and watch... ...and as Michael Ray says, a 30min video from walking in the garage to uploading completed is 10hrs work... but will keep improving as we go, and with the kind support of our Patrons on Pateron it's becoming more possible to spend the time doing this - so we should be thanking them too!
