Movie pass would work if it just cut the price of movie tickets in a specific market in half. On a normal day, it costs me 12 bucks to get a movie ticket not during matinee. So if movie pass just said "Hey, just pay us 6 bucks a movie" I'd see more movies... Or if movie pass came with a free drink or popcorn or something. Like, I don't even need movie pass because I only see movies when it's 5 dollar tuesday and I only see max 2 movies a month.

That’s exactly what MoviePass tried, with the concessions. They tried blackmailing theatres for a cut of concessions, or they couldn’t be a moviepass theatre. They got laughed out of every theatre they tried it at. Then AMC came out with their club, which includes Concessions, and put the final nail in their coffin.

I live about 20 minutes from a small town with an old movie theater. One screen, 4 bucks a ticket (7 for 3D), for another 6 bucks you get 2 drinks and a tub of popcorn so good it spawned a small chain of gourmet popcorn shops. Pretty much the only place I’ll see movies at.
