The flowy hair is magical, Celestia’s and Luna’s hair stopped flowing in the Tirek episode when they gave up their magic. Correspondingly, Cadence and Twilight have both had flowy hair at some point when they did strong spells.

Since whenever the princesses lose their powers, there hair stops flowing. the older twilight got, the more powerful she became. But the flowing hair only showed up on twilight when she was as grown up as celestia. (I have no idea why luna is so much smaller than celestia but my guess is that their parents may have been 1 alicorn and the other a regular pony but they have a step parent so theyre half sister and luna was born hundreds of years after celestia. (Originally because in mym they both look the same age and that contradicts lunas character)

Here’s a theory: I think Celestia was born a unicorn and Luna was born a pegasus. When we first meet Celestia in Friendship Is Magic, we meet her standing and walking around. However, when we first meet Luna in Luna Eclipsed (excluding her substance-less non-Nightmare Moon appearance in Friendship Is Magic), she is seen flying into Ponyville. Thanks to the Cakes, we know that siblings can be different types of ponies, so it wouldn’t be impossible. We also know from Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell that Princess Cadance started out as a pegasus and earned her horn. So it seems entirely plausible that Celestia’s affinity for walking and Luna’s for flying could be because Celestia was born a unicorn and Luna a pegasus.

Sawtooth Waves did forget a lot of things in this video. When nightmare moon was defeated, Luna’s hair wasn’t waving. Starlight glimmer would’ve never become a Alicorn. Starlight wouldn’t really be the princess of anything. Starlight would probably only represent being equal, but the bong equal thing was actually bad. Celestia, and Luna wouldn’t have alicorn parents. Sawtooth even said that Luna’s, and celestia’s reaction should’ve been, “Oh so that’s what happens when a alicorn is born.” Naturally, the parents of Celestia, and Luna were unicorns.

I always thought that when Clover smart told Starswirl Bearded that she was very strong with the three of them with the earth pony and pegasus, our bearded man thought "hmm, what would happen if we created a pony that would unite both Earth pony and pegasus and unicorn?". Well, he took his students to conduct an experiment. The result is Celestia and the Luna. And Flury surprised them because they were unicorns/pegasus themselves. And as for Twilight and Cadence - the Sisters could find out how it works and be like, "Oh, let's turn her into an alicorn!" And that they will find a job - Cadence - in the crystal empire, twilight - in Equestria. And the transformation into an alicorn itself is a fierce overdose of magic, judging by the Cozy Glow. Sisters - Starswirl, Cadence - who knows, Twilight - elements of harmony, Flurry - the first born alicorn so let it be.

Alicorns could be a maternal trait being that neither Luna nor Celestia have any children due to not being married I doubt they are thousand year old virgins though traditionally royalty has always had to pretend they were virgins if they were not married so that's probably what they are doing

Yes , you are right about the theory of alicorns having a civilization but unfortunately a war started at the civilization called the "hundred years war" due to which all the alicorns demolished from the world leaving only Luna and celestia in the civilization worried about the future of pony-kind they started their journey in hope to make new alicorn leaders because only an alicorn can make another pony an alicorn and they started the school for gifted unicorns so that they can find someone who could be worthy of keeping the world of ponies safe and that's why they made cadence an alicorn after they saw her potential and the power of love soon, they made Twilight an alicorn too. And soon after at the end of season 9 they left her as the pony who could be the new caretaker of the world.

Question that would fit the original videos timeline, if Celestia and Luna said ‘a Alicorns birth is something we never seen in Equestria’ and the theory about a different land, where Luna and Celestia came from originally, wouldn’t it be possible for an alicorns birth to happen in their native land while in equestria, where it originally consisted mainly of earth and Pegasus ponies and not alicorns(before Celestia and Lunas arrival during discords reign), alicorns not being born but instead earned would make sense still, as during Winter wrap up, we hear the ponies say that they never use magic to clean up for spring for tradition because it was originally an earth pony town or something along those lines. So while a natural alicorns birth never been seen in Equestria, it could be possible somewhere else, likely wherever Celestia and Luna come from or something like that.

Actually there was an episode where Luna's hair wasn't flowing. I think it's the older the allicorn gets is when their hair starts to get flowy. Just like how in the last episode Twilight's hair was flowing compared to her younger self.

maybe the hair flow is actually something that doesn't happen until an alicorn get's to a certain age which could explain why Twilight's hair flows at the end of the series or maybe over time her magic got stronger making the hair flow happen we truly can't be sure but I kind of always had it in my head that Celestia and Luna were different because they were older and that was supported when we found out alicorns have a longer life span then most ponies do

There is a spin-off that takes place centuries after the series that confirms that this _is_ indeed possible - about an Earth-pony who becomes an alicorn. King Sombra was temporarily an alicorn (as evidenced by his creation: the Alicorn Amulet), but something happened and apparently the divine/mystical powers of the pony world changed him back to a unicorn. My theory is that he either lost his mystical blessing for making his pact with the evil shadow powers OR the only way he was able to become an alicorn in the first place was through his dark magic studies and his creation of the Alicorn Amulet, which as we know amplifies magic power, and with it he was able to manipulate the mystical forces enough to make himself an alicorn, BUT when he lost the Amulet (either an enemy of his stole it or a powerful unicorn found a spell to take it away) he lost the power to manipulate the mystical forces and hence also be an alicorn. Again, though, he was not born an alicorn and he didn't even die an alicorn.

@illstayherem read the wrong… she can fly good, she’s just not confident and doesn’t need to fly as much as other Pegasus, but she still flies, while in all the times we have seen cadence at the episode, we’ve only seen her fly once or twice before.

The Crystal Empire is all on solid ground, Cadance doesn’t have to fly that often that therefore could just be a weak flyer. Over time, not using her wings could absolutely wear her down, especially when she suddenly has to fly a long distance carrying a heavy chariot. That’s like saying a person who usually drives everywhere and lays on a couch is told to run a marathon, they’ve always had their legs but they’re not as good at running as others who do it all the time.
