In this video, I show you my YUMMY, DELICIOUS doctored mix recipe for yellow / chocolate marble cake. And also how to marble the both flavors in the cake pans, baking them and wrapping them up to freeze.

This is the first recipe I've ever made from Karolyn's Kakes and it will not be my last. This cake is unbelievably moist and delicious. I made 2 8-inch round marble cakes and 3-9inch round chocolate cakes with this recipe. The marble cake and the chocolate cake received RAVE reviews. Hi Karolyn, not to be a pain 🙄 but on your newer video on doctored white cake which I saw the other day you said 1 cup a p flour and showed 200g but when you emailed me on the choc marabled cake you said 125g of all purpose flour, so I'm double checking , I know your so busy but if you get a chance to let me know I'd be grateful 🙏

I made this exact recipe yesterday and it tasted great and is good for stacking but a little too dense for my family’s liking. The sugar geek uses this same method but also adds 1/2 cup of melted butter and 1/4 tsp of salt I think adding an oil/butter may help lighten it up a little I’ll try this method today and see how it turns out. Thanks for all your advice 😊

Have you tried the Duncan Hines triple chocolate fudge cake? It’s so yummy and delicious to use your words. It had little chocolate chips in the mix that makes it super moist and extra chocolatey!

I love this recipe I've been using it for years. I only bake for a few friends and family. But I find myself in need of a tutorial of how to make a baby dragon for my daughter's baby shower cake. If ya ever get a chance I would love you forever. She wants not a cartoon type dragon but a fairly realistic one. And not like the Chinese dragons. Just a little baby one. Thanks for sharing your advice, it is truly helpful to those of us who only bake as a hobby once in a while.

Sure, 125g all-purpose flour, 200g granulated sugar, 245mL whole milk, 240g sour cream. Sorry about that, I do give grams in my newer videos!

You may have to modify the recipe depending on the size of the pan. I don't make number cakes, but here is a video where I explain how to change the recipe depending on the cake pan. All of my decorated cakes are doctored mix cakes. My signature pound cakes are made from scratch. Those are bundt cakes, not decorated!

Only on cakes 10" and larger. I also reduce the oven temp to 325F for 10" and larger.

HI Karolyn - I have to make a vegan marble wedding cake, and they want a naked cake. Any suggestions of how I can incorporate the marble/chocolate, without the chocolate making it to the outer edges where it will show? I’m afraid it wouldn’t look right on a naked cake if you can see the chocolate thru along with the white. Your thoughts? Do you think it would be quite noticeable and wouldn’t look right? Wondered if you ever had to do a naked cake design with marble cake. Very appreciated

I always let people know when ordering a naked cake that the flavor they choose will affect how the cake looks. So I would just let my customer know that you may be able to see some of the chocolate striping. You can try to keep the chocolate towards the center, but then it will only be marbled in the middle of the cake and not throughout the whole thing. Which may not be a big deal, I would just run everything by the customer!

My eggs sit out for a little bit before I use them. But other than that, everything else I use (milk and sour cream) is cold. I know it's usually recommended to use room temp ingredients, but I don't like to let milk and sour cream sit out too long.

How long after being in the freezer overnight would you say the cakes need to thaw out? More or less. I made this marble cake. I took them out at 5:00 am. Would like to start working on them by 7am. I hope it’s doable. 😄

I usually give them about 4 hours to thaw completely. So if I am going to fill them in the morning, I'll get up around 3am to take them out of the freezer and go back to sleep.

It does run a little more on the baking days to keep it cool. But my cake fridges are older and I haven't noticed any issues with them working too hard.

I notice on all your baking videos that you place your cakes upside down in the freezer. Does that flatten down the dome? Or do you still need to cut off the top when you fill/torte?

I always cutoff the top so I don’t care if that part gets messed up. I don’t place it right side up because I keep the bottom part of the cake and don’t want it to get warped by coming in contact with a surface.

I’m actually in the middle of making a video about not wasting cake mix. It’s taking a little bit for me to get it together because there’s a lot to explain. But if you use 2 boxes, you’ll have spare batter.

No, I personally don't like to. When sour cream gets warm, it gets runny. I prefer to add it when it is cold and thicker.

I find that they are more dense than just adding the ingredients on the back of the box, but are still lighter and fluffier than something like a pound cake.

All the time! I mix a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar. (I cup water, 1 cup sugar). As soon as it comes to a boil, take it off of the burner and let it cool. @@ODY0319 I bake in 2" high pans as well. If you want to bake 4 of them, you'll have to make another batch of yellow mix. When I have leftover batter, I usually look at the cakes I have to make in the next week or 2 and try to use that batter for those cakes. Wrap them up well and freeze them. Or I'll make cupcakes with the extra batter. I'm sure you can halve the recipe, but I don't ever do that because I bake so much that I can always use the extra batter!

Unless you're baking more cakes, you don't have to prepare two flavors of cake. Prepare a vanilla batter, separate it, and add cocoa powder or melted chocolate to one part then distribute as indicated in the video.

In my opinion, a doctored mix recipe has less margin of error, which yields more consistent results. It's more moist and has a better texture and flavor. 😊

Hi Karolyn’s I have noticed you are using a lot cake mix which good But my question to you do you do your business with cake box mix ? You put so much other things mix then why you are giving credit to cake mix Are they given you commission 😁 Just joking No seriously asking Wait for your reply

Hi! I'm not sure what you're asking, I don't get paid from Betty Crocker if that's what you mean LOL All of my decorated cakes are doctored cake mix cakes.
