Delicious Shabbat Meal Recipes & Traditions One Hour Shabbat Meal Prep Shabbat Cooking Tips
#shabbat #mealprep #cookingtips
In This Video I Guide You On How to maximize your time in the kitchen to make delicious Shabbat foods in just 1 hour. A typical Shabbat takes me a good few hours to prepare for on Thursday and Friday. We aren’t hosting anyone this Shabbat so I decided to take a well deserved break and keep it simple, but definitely not skimping on the flavor.
Shabbat Menu:
~Shabbat Fish- Gefilta Fish With a Moroccan Twist
~Fried flounder served with white sauce
Shabbat Rice- Sirkanis- A rice & chickpea dish with loads of flavor that gets finished off with garlic oil 😋
~Shabbat Meat- Lamb with baby potatoes and radishes
~Sephardic Shabbat Osvo- A flavorful stew that gets cooked overnight and served on Saturday for lunch.
~Shabbat Salads and dips
Look out for the video coming soon featuring all of my favorites.
~ Shabbat dessert- chocolate chip cookies

Braised Lamb:
Into a brasier placein 2 tbsp of oil, lamb meat/bones, sliced onions, handful of radishes and baby potatoes. Season with salt, pepper, cumin and coriander to taste. I love adding in 1/2 a cup of duck sauce but this may be omitted. Mix everything thoroughly cover with a lid and bake at 400F for about 2 hours.
Sirkanis:
2 cups rice
1 can chickpeas
1 Cup of diced beef
1 onion diced
1-2 carrots diced
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp salt
1 tbspn chicken consome
Cumin and coriander
Cook covered at 400F for hour and a half mixing 1x after 45 minutes.
In a saucepan sauté 7 crushed garlic with 1/4 cup oil. Pour over rice.
Gefilta Fish with a Moroccan Twist:
Remove frozen gefilta fish from any packaging and place into a deep oven safe dish. Set aside.
In a separate bowl add 1/2 cup of oil, 1 tbsp paprika,1.5 tsp turmeric and 1 tsp of salt. Set aside.
Into a preheated skillet add in 2 tbsp of avocado oil, 4 sliced garlic cloves, 1 red chili pepper, 1 green jalapeno and a few sprigs of parsley. Cook for 1 minute and then add the paprika oil. Mix thoroughly. Add 1.5 cups of water and cook for 3 minutes. Pour the sauce over the fish, cover with foil and bake at 400F for about an hour.

Hi Sonya, I am a Muslim-American, and I love learning about Jewish culture on your channel. You are so relateable. Its so important for people to share their traditions. BTW, with lamb bones with a little meat, please look up "Kuru Fasulye" if you want a recipe. It is a tomato based Turkish white bean stew made with lamb broth and meat. I believe Greeks have a similar version.

Reminder to anyone making the gefilte fish, the frozen packages are RAW fish, so you definitely want to check the internal temp, or cut into it to see that sure it's thoroughly cooked throughout. Delicious!

Nice. The meat on bones that you don't know what to do with? You can braise it and add to a bbq sauce or asian sauce or a taco sauce after removing it from the bones and forking it ( shredding maybe). Then put that with noodles, as a "hot sandwich" in a bowl to fork up, or with tacos/fajitas/ burritos or in empanadas or pasties. Then the bones can be used for bone broth and braising liquid can be used in a gravy or to add to a thick stew ( can also be frozen in smaller amounts to add flavor to rice dishes). Hope this helps with some ideas?

I can't get over how time-saving it is to prep and freeze ingredients like you did with the beef for your sirkaniz. I've even short-circuited my "out of sight, out of mind" problem by keeping a small magnetic dry-erase board on the freezer door so that I can just glance, grab, and go! Highly recommended.

For the chickpea and rice dish, have you ever tried putting in coconut milk? In Guyana, we have a similar dish and I typically use 1/2 water and 1/2 coconut milk. Also found that you can also use the coconut milk powder if you don’t want to use the liquid milk.
