Ended up buying the game on a whim after watching Kruggsmash play it on his channel, was pleasantly surprised to find that my order came with a bonus .PDF version. I ended up playing it all weekend: by the time I set it down I had reached the thirteenth or so level down, defeated an ancient monstrosity that I'd headcanon'd as a gigantic Siamese lamprey-centaur (and her skeletal entourage one level down,) discovered a sleeping dragon and it's lootpile, and pilfered the the legendary ax _Hordereaver_ from a lost and forgotten temple altar. Even if I never find the Void Crystal, I'd say that _Gem Kohldur_ has been a successful venture as a Dwarven stronghold.

I love that you've made this mythology around the insects teaching you healing magic. Was that potentially a Good Magic result giving you the Valkyria or Nurses Sigils? Also, I love the idea of that little war game you did at the start, that's pretty awesome. Gonna play that next time the internet conks out!

Hi Anna! Yes. With the insects I rolled up the Valkyrie good magic, and used it as a jumping off point for that little interaction.

This was what we did in the 80s.. My buddies and I would draw and draw and draw on grid paper, such villains lairs, complexes, etc, playing all the usual RPGs of that time... D&D, Top Secret, Traveller, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc...

@The Dungeon Dive - Interesting! Are there any other games with similar map-making mechanics where you draw your map on-the-go? A few titles I find somewhat similar: D100 Dungeon, Four Against Darkness, Micro Chapbook RPG, 3 Dice Dungeon, Dice Quest, Wyrd: The Descent.

Thank you for the excellent video and introduction to Anna Blackwell's games. Solo RPGs are a new concept to this old gamer so it's great to see all the creativity in this part of the hobby universe. Could you share the source of the graph paper you use in the video if possible? I've never encountered sheets that size and it looks great for playing delve.

It’s been more than 20 years since I finished high school, and that eraser head (or lack there of) at the start of the video, is still worse than scratching the black board. Kids and their laptops will never know the feeling. Thanks for the heads up on this. This game looks fun. 👍🏽

These seem cool. Unfortunately any time a game incorporates regular playing cards it kills it thematically for me.
@TheDungeonDive
@TheDungeonDive 3 жыл бұрын
Huh. That's interesting. I wonder why? You could probably simulate with dice.
@sethpeterson8261

@@TheDungeonDive I think it's because they aren't just components, but a game unto themselves. Plus it's a modern feeling, common, off the shelf game used for card games/poker/ magic tricks etc... that is anachronistic to fantasy or sci-fi. And that just ruins the vibe for me. Another example is Dungeon Crawl which only uses playing cards for initiative, but that was enough to not use/play it. I could easily use dice instead (and I'm confused why they didn't), but having it written in the book spoils the flavor for me.
@TheDungeonDive
@TheDungeonDive 3 жыл бұрын
I wished more games used playing cards as a component. There are so many things you can do with a standard deck of cards. Dice are also a game unto themselves. In tons of SF stories they talk about people playing poker and cards, and I can imagine people in fantasy lands playing cards. I also like to use special decks for certain games, like my Frazetta deck for Talisman. But we all have our little things. :)
@crushingit5128
@crushingit5128 3 жыл бұрын
@@sethpeterson8261 I can relate to that. Like I think it's neat when a game uses such a simple component but at times it could seem out of place thematically. Even in a great game like Aftermath it seems out of place. Why are Mice using playing cards?

Excellent stuff. I really love the first Dungeon Keeper. Still the best game on my list after all these years and my gateway to anything fantasy related. I remember roleplaying with my cousin based on the game. But then we lose the CD for some reasons and I wish I could have developed something like this to fill that void. I guess all I need to do now is learn how to draw!
