I feel like both siblings were right and wrong. Muichiro's overly optimistic approach led him to treat becoming a Demon Slayer as a game rather than taking it seriously. On the other hand, Yuichirou's excessive pragmatism and pessimism hindered his brother's growth, as Muichiro himself expressed feeling suffocated while living with him. The key lies in finding a balance between the extremes, and that's precisely what Muichiro's development journey was. He transitioned from being overly optimistic to excessively pragmatic and pessimistic, and eventually settled into a balanced middle ground at present. The short flashback with his previous swordsmith was great. He said that looking at his sword make him shed tears. Samurai believe that swords are the representation of their souls. His sword was nicked. So Muichuro's getting his new sword is symbolic of making peace with himself (calming down internal turmoil) after regaining memories. That's some serious mental/identity issues. Even after regaining his memories, he still acts like his brother to the extent, so some of those qualities become part of him now, for better or worse. He lived like this for 2 years, so it just makes sense. Most likely deep down he wanted to be more assertive like his brother. I loved the idea of his brother becoming part of him, it's probably one of my favorite portrayal of this particular trope that I've come across. Witnessing his (or his brothers) pragmatic demeanor/mask breaking throughout the season leading to this moment is one of my favorite character moments in Demon Slayer.

Muichiro absolutely has taken him being a demon slayer seriously since he began. He never saw it as a game, he was always nearly killing himself to become one like they said destroying swords, vomiting blood, just over all working himself to the bone. Even when he first heard of demon slayers he wanted to help people out and prevent them from dying. Idk where you got him thinking it was a game from because he’s always taken it seriously and losing his brother made him as serious as can be. His issue was that he couldn’t remember what made him a demon slayer, just the fact that he had a burning/hatred and a constant feeling that he was forgetting something within his head that he didn’t understand. His brother never said anything of value truly other than once he died. He only ever degraded him out of fear he’d lose his brother too. His brothers pessimistic nature only gave him the ability to rationalize a situation and figure out what was most important for him to do first. Not a singular Hashira that we have seen has not taken being in the Demon Slayer Corps seriously.

The proper response about being Demon Slayer is what Mitsuri said to Tanjiro at the beginning of the arc "We may not even see each other again". Not "we will save lives because we are descendants of the first breather". It's a naive perspective from someone how not taking it seriously and doesn't know what it means to be Demon Slayer. 1) When the demon attacked Muichiro and his brother. Muichiro undergone a violent rage, this is the same thing that happen to Tanjiro when he suddenly ‘powered up’ when vs Daki.(the one time that Tanjiro almost died for not breathing). However the aftermath, Tanjiro was grimacing from the pain. Same thing happened to Muichiro where after he killed the demon, his body felt heavy like lead and he had to crawl his way back into his house. 2) Muichiro was rescued by the Master’s wife after the demon attack but he suffered amnesia, while Muichiro was unable to recall his past. He was cold which was rather alike how his brother acted in the past. 3) The last portion of the show. It was just Yuichiro dying speech to Muichiro. Saying how he thought God and Buddha could not protect him, so it is up to him to protect his brother hence he was so strict to Muichiro. It was definitely not a case of Yuichiro surviving and taking Muichiro name.

It's crazy becasue the dialogue at the end is very common in anime, for example Tanjiro flash back of his dad addressing him as Tanjiro, but I guess since their twins it confused people when Yuichiro said Muichiro in the flashback, Yuichiro basically said that he isn't the chosen one because he wasn't kind in helping others, unlike Muichiro who was kind and got his memories back becoming the "chosen one" the show was referring to at the end

The "Yuichiro is Muichiro" theory sounds cool at first until you think about it for 2 seconds and realize that Yuichiro was insulting his brother by saying that "Mu" means incompetent and meaningless. If he WAS actually Muichiro the whole time, I don't see a reason why he would say that about himself when he clearly sees himself as the only smart one of the two. And then later, as he's dying, he mutters Muichiro's name and says it actually means Infinity, telling his brother that he has infinite potential. Again, he would not say that about himself when he's literally about to die.

Another great episode! It really is important to remember how limiting poverty can be, even today but all the more so back in Taisho Era Japan. When you're poor, you work all day, every day. Otherwise, the necessary things don't get done. It's true enough to say that the mom should have rested when she felt unwell, but it's also hardly fair for Yuichiro to say it. If she had, she'd feel she was letting her family down. Even in the modern world, people work while sick, or else they can't earn what they need to keep eating. Poverty is a vicious cycle that way. And please don't knock on Muichiro for not being able to cook rice. Getting short-grain rice cooked all the way through, and with a good texture, can be really tricky to do by hand. I've seen it done and discussed in period dramas and such, and seen the results of doing so while camping. You have to get the heat just right, and time everything well. Can you imagine trying to do that with a wood fire? That's why rice cookers are so popular -- they save a lot of labour and guesswork. Oh, and the 'mu' in Muichiro's name is indeed the same as that in Muzan's name. As others have explained, the kanji in question basically means 'without' or 'there is not'. Muzan is actually a word in Japanese, meaning 'remorseless' or 'cruel'.

The Master has this little expression and gives a subtle, “Oh?” As Shinobu is discussing it. I suspect he knew about Both the Kamado family and the Tokito family ties with Sun Breathing. I also found it a jaw dropping parallel in power how Muichiro instantly slashed through Gyoko’s tentacles with a flurry of mist the same way Tanjiro instantly slashed through Daki’s belts with a flurry of fire. I’d love to see both scenes edited and played split screen top and bottom.

For those who are interested in reality spoiler alert: Muichiro is descendant of uper moon 1 kokushibo and kokushibo is brother of yoruichi (user of moon breathing) but helena san got right that tanjiro isnt descendant of anyone.. he cant use sun breathing exactly -> hinokami kagura is just changed sun breathing cuz tanjiro family copy it from yoroichi who was savior of one of tanjiros ancestors. The mark what tanjiro and muichiro awakens isnt anyting to do with their family, its called demon slayer mark (huge power boost but user dies at age 23) most hashiras can use it for example Mitsuri can use it as well.
