Jay will forever be loved. I fell in love with the show and Jay back in the 80s during reruns on Nick At Nite. Once I married and had kids they enjoyed the show & Jay too. I'm so sorry his childhood was so rough. I can relate to that myself. I'm glad he is happy now and able to embrace his Dennis character & fans.

I bought all four seasons on dvd! I’m binge watching them, right now! And if he was treated bad, he sure hid it pretty good! This kid was awesome! Making me laugh and sometimes cry(happy tears). I freaking love this kid!

That's really sad given what a great child actor he was. Hopefully he is at peace with himself these days and realizes how much he was loved by the public. I'm watching the old series on DVD these days and Jay has me laughing! Thank you Jay!

I'm so sorry that you were treated like that Mr. North. I really am. You didn't deserved to be treated like crap for doing your job to the best of your abilities. I hope you are finally at peace with the show and are able to see that your fans don't like how you were treated but love and respected how incredible you were on the show.

I was born after Dennis the Menace was filmed, but I absolutely love the reruns and want to say thank you to everyone who was involved in it. TV today is awful.. I much prefer older TV. Makes me incredibly sad to hear what Jay went through.... what a handsome teenager he was too. Am just about to watch part three, but he should have been cast as the handsome teenage boy/young man he was.... God bless everyone involved.

The real "sheesh!" is that so many kids go through this, not that they speak up later as adults. And I don't hear any bitterness on Jay's part, just honesty. I'm sure he has been through a lot of anger and pain, but when he talks about it in this interview, he's merely telling us what he wasn't able to say when he was a kid. I'm glad he's been open about it and has worked to help other child actors.

I hope Jay reads the comments here and realizes that the public never stopped loving him, Hollywood did. Everything he said about Hollywood is exactly right...they really would cut their own mother's throats for a buck. That's even more evident today than ever. That aside, he was one hell of an actor. Just look at the psychological torture he went through and not a hint of it in his acting! In fact, he looked like he was having a ball on the show. Not many could pull that off. From what I understand he's doing much better today, and I really hope that's true. Thankfully, his mother was reason he didn't go broke like so many former child actors.

Cannot imagine the pressures of being a child actor, having to memorize all that dialogue and the rest. But to have two abusers in charge through all that is really criminal. There are many quality shows on TV today. There are family channels, and channekls just for kids. There are more Christian channels than ever before. There are great programs on PBS. What you watch is up to you. You can watch qulaity shows or trash. It is your decision Nobody is going to come to your house and force you to watch the family shows. When that show was on the air, there were probably just a few channels. You can even watch family shows on KZbin. You are complaining for no reason. You are making the decision to watch things that are not good or positive.

He was so talented! And he carried an entire show, which is hard for an actor, especially a little kid. I, too, hope he's being compensated. I seriously hope that was not meant as criticism of Jay, because he really DID go through Hell from his aunt and uncle. It's a well known story today, and something he has been open about for many years, which is why many years ago he started dedicating himself to protecting other future child actors from having the same experience. It really is tragic to know that this seemingly happy kid was so sad on the inside for most of the time filming Dennis.

I did a double take when I saw him on screen as a middle aged adult -- and then laughed at my own reaction. I knew he wouldn't be a taller version of his eight year old self, so I don't know what I expected. LOL! Though you can still see some of the kid in that face.

@Fruth3712 жыл бұрын
My favorite part of this is when Mr. Wilson gets stuck in the butt with the pin the tail on the donkey, gets a mug full of punch, and is laughed at by every one in the scene. The kids in the back ground are laughing ahead of time and the lady posing next to Mr. Wilson smiles, but recovers to act surprised. Spring Byington is laughing at the tail "pinned" to Mr. Wilson's rear end.

I'm a screenwriter, and you hit it on the head. Every character is to some degree an extension of the writer's own self, or the writer's fantasy of themself. Most notably with Seinfeld, and I know Jerry and his main writer and producer etc., but right there, you could put all of the characters on a black set, hand them scripts, ask them to hand their scripts to the actor next to them, because they are all interchangeable, and they wouldn't miss a beat. That's not a diss, that's the biggest compliment I could offer Jerry, and face to face, he agreed with me on this.

Wow! It hurts to hear about Jay's abuse. Jay North will always be loved by the public. I would watch any film with him in it, and not out of curiosity, that guys got bushels of talent. Wouldn't it be great to see a movie with Jay North playing a grown up Dennis living in the same house as his parents had, only to be saddled with a descendant of Mr. Wilson moving in next door named Little Georgie. Of course Little Georgie puts Dennis's menacing to shame. Could be a great coming of age flick. That'd make a lot of money, and he should be paid top dollar, like a couple million bucks. The producer would make 50 million, of course, Hollywood's a town full of escaped idiots so that ain't going to happen. I know because I'm one of them.
