In this video, we are going to talk about the Density Altitude.
By the end of this video, you will know what the Density Altitude is, what are the implications on your aircraft performances and how to calculate it.
In order to understand in full the density altitude, you need to know what the pressure altitude (video about the pressure altitude at the end of this description).
The Density Altitude is the Pressure Altitude corrected by the temperature, but why is so important to correct the pressure altitude by the temperature?
It is important because temperature plays a big role in your aircraft's performance.
So, you need to know if the temperature around your plane is colder or warmer than the Standard ICAO one (15deg at mean sea level).
With high temperatures, at constant pressure, you have less density and with less density, your aircraft performance will be worse, the opposite is also true.
So, if you take the same airport with the same QNH in winter and you compare it with a summer day with the same QNH you will notice that you will need a longer runway in order to take off.
The density works inversely to the temperature. At constant pressure the higher the temperature the lower the density.
In order to calculate the Density Altitude of your aircraft you need to know that for each 1-degree Celsius of temperature deviation, the aircraft will feel 120ft of altitude deviation.
If, for example, the temperature at mean sea level is 16 deg Celsius (thus 1 degree warmer) the Aircraft will feel that it is at 120ft higher even though it is at the mean sea level.
Once you know the ISA deviation, you multiply it by 120 and then, add it or subtract it, to your pressure altitude.

990 hPa means more pressure altitude to compensate for the given OAT above or below ISA. We love your animated explanations and how yo hammer in the information with such thoroughness. Bravo! You are a Golden Seal Instructor Signor! I flew at high Density Altitude Airports in Kenya like Nairobi and Eldoret as well as Denver in Sim and tried Quito and La Paz in computer sim.My aircraft is certified to a maximum take off Altitude of 13,800 ft MSL!Special procedures are used.You take off and land with Oxygen masks! Try a video on a hot day take off or lamding in La Paz with one engine failed on your 737 PC Sim...it will be interesting to watch!

I hope i got the correct answer: A: 990 hpa in Winter with 5 Celsius and 1000ft elevation. =447,74 feet (density altitude). B: in Summer with 990hpa and 25 Celsius = 2827,75 feet (density altitude) Instead of 1000ft pressure altitude at 1013,25 hpa I have to use 1627.75 ft pressure altitude at 990 hpa

@@PILOTCLIMB Thank you for the compliment. I was about to ask you if you could make a video about Density Altitude. Are you going to make a vodeo about true altitude and calculation between Inches Hg and hpa?

can we say pressure altitude equal to elevation Capt?
@PILOTCLIMB
@PILOTCLIMB 3 жыл бұрын
Well, the pressure altitude takes as reference the standard isobar of 1013.25 hpa, however the elevation takes the mean sea level. The pressure altitude and the field elevation are the same only if the pressure at the mean sea level (qnh) equals 1013.25hpa. Let me know if I answered your question.
