@ no it doesn’t, matter fact, you might fall asleep lol. It feels weird at first but not bad, they might even add a scent to the mask so it smells better!

They put a tube down your throat and it stays sore for 2 weeks, and then they stick you with 2 needles up the arm which both hurt a lot due to the thickness.

@@Zjr190for dental surgery they don’t stick no tube down ur throat, they wait till ur completely asleep then give a u a shot in the gums to numb the gums just in case u wake up while their close to getting a stuck tooth out, the IV is still included though

If done right, you will feel like you have gone under anesthesia with IV sedation. My endotontist doing my root canal who also happens to do sedation, had to administer extra midway through cuz I woke up freaking out but the second dose made me not remember the second half. The pros being your recovery time will be shorter and you won't feel as groggy and goofy afterwards. They will monitor your vitals during and administer oxygen through a nasal canula. So there is no tube going anywhere. People say there's a stark difference between general anesthesia and sedation but really the only difference is it's less dangerous than general anesthesia which is why sedation is offered more for simple procedures like cleanings, tooth extractions, and root canals. The procedure can be 30 mins to 2 hours but to you it will feel like you fell asleep for the night.

@@kennedy4257 Sedation actually increases recovery time, and the difference between general anesthesia and "sedation" is that sedation doesn't generally have any analgesic effects. Not that propofol does anyway, but in medicine it's widely known and opioids are frequently co-administered perioperatively for pain control. Dental sedation doesn't prevent pain, it prevents memories.

I always get nitrous. Knocks me out every time so I’m basically already sedated anyway. I’ve used it for every procedure so far because I’ve got super bad dental anxiety plus lots of pain. Especially because my mouth is small and doesn’t open very wide. Even putting the pieces in you have to bite down on for X-rays hurts pretty bad for me. Nitrous all the way for me.

I've had 4 oral surgerys when I was like 6 or 7 and my mom videoed when I was high as the sky before I was completely out and all I remember is getting a stuffed animal that smelled like chocolate (I got general anaesthetic)

sometimes special needs or children who have a large amount of work to be done. it is rare but it is done usually in a hospital setting on a case by case basis. hope this helps!

Some do general anesthesia for super phobic patients or lot of work have to be done (ex. Full mouth extraction and Implants)
