For me allowing anxiety to be there isn’t too hard but it’s the fact that these existential thoughts and questions GIVE me anxiety.

it's weird how all of this seems to do pretty similar things to how we think. Existential thoughts are unfortunately something we experience with DPDR. It will get better.

@@johnatwar my dpdr was caused by existential thoughts. That’s why I feel so different to all these stories. I didn’t have a bad drug experience I watched a video on the simulation theory and had a panic attack. Started seeing everything as if it wasn’t real etc. Then spiralled into solipsism and other theories, to just baffled by existence in general. It’s been 6 mos for me now.

@@CourtneySDawn I didn't do drugs either just had a super major panic attack, but I totally get why watching what you watched did that to you, there are several theory ideas that I've looked at that have fucked my thoughts up too. I'd suggest not looking at any more of that. I'm around 6 months too. You'll get past this

Depersonalization/ derealization gives me extreme anxiety& stress I feel like I’m on edge all the time and I feel like I’m in a dream whenever I’m anxious or panicky I get these hot flashes or feeling hot , my hands get tingly and numb , I get these weird thoughts about the earth like it’s not real or I’m not alive and especially even talking about the solar system freaks me out , I get these dizzy spells too like this intense rush of sudden dizziness and I never had a panic attack before until I smoked worst decision I ever made !! I also got sleep paralysis because of this which I never had before

Please don't forget that existential anxiety is a byproduct of the human's remarkable intelligence. The anxiety doesn't make you abnormal, it makes you human. Lots of people are facing the same situation as you. You can be helped. Again: Your feelings are normal and understandable. They make you human. Think about it for a second: Is anxiety the most rational reaction to facing existential questions? How does it help? Not at all, it's a human issue that comes with developing a brain capable of reason and logic. But the fact that you show it means you are not any more alien than anyone else. You are part of an amazing thing which is life. Evem though we don't really know what it is, we know it is unique and wonderful. Just know that. And you are part of this unique and wonderful experience. Whatever it is, life, welcome it.

Hi Shaun! I have been experiencing DPDR for almost 4.5 months now. It started after COVID-19, and I am now in Ukraine during the war. the air defense shoots down shells over my house at least once a week. and in the spring it was every day. My history of stress and anxiety is long. but I seemed to get it right. until one day I had a panic attack. so I tried very hard to minimize stress, but now there is no way to go to a safe place, and the thought of being away from family and those who can help terrifies me. I'm much better already, thanks to your book. Your videos have been a lifesaver in the most difficult moments. I strongly feel that everything will be fine, but the process is long and uneven. Sometimes there are moments of complete loss in space and in memory. Sometimes it seems that all my memories are just dreams and they never really happened. But my main problem is that for all 4.5 months, I didn’t leave the house alone, my close friends or family were always with me, and now I can’t travel by transport or car myself. As soon as I am alone in a public place or far from home, it seems to me that the world just starts to disappear, and I get lost and cannot get home and the world will simply cease to exist. I understand that this is a panic attack and the fear of being alone without help, but I don’t understand what steps to take to start driving and doing something around the city on my own, without help. I would be grateful for feedback and advice. Thank you so much for your huge work again! Best regards Oli

How are you feeling now mate? I hope you are better. I would suggest trying to drive, trying to go public by yourself, not far, starting somewhere near and evolving with time. I know it sounds hard, but that is what I think helped me. I am struggling almost 14 weeks now but I am much better than at the beginning. I tried doing all the thing prior to DPDR even though they were awful and scary and very hard. Now I do everything.

Thanks for purchasing The DP Manual and I hope your recovery is going well! 😊 To answer your question, I think it depends on where you are in your recovery process. If you're just finding out what DPDR is, they can be a great explainer and reminder that you can and will recover. If you're closer towards recovery and have understood and internalized what the condition is (and that you don't need to be afraid of it!), you could probably refer to them less and less. In general what I'd suggest is that you can use them as positive reinforcement, but you should be aiming to use them less and less in time. And what you always want to avoid is going down KZbin / Google research rabbitholes. Hope that helps and enjoy your recovery! 😊

stop going near weed to be able to smell it. Marijuana has become a trigger for you. I get this way if i decide to drink coffee, which i know i shouldn't i immediately start panicking after one sip.

@@DeeDeel69 you can look for some information in google "Exposure Therapy". The thing is, if something triggers you, by example: "Costco lights triggered my dpdr or anxiety, so I kept going" because there is nothing wrong or dangerous in Costco. You keep facing the thing that is triggering you until you overcome that fear. Then you keep going with the other thing... one step at the time. So you dont hide yourself from the world.

@Dpmanual
@Dpmanual 8 ай бұрын
Hi Matteo, Firstly, if you are experiencing any thoughts of self-harm, please do speak to a medical professional as soon as possible. Secondly, I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual. And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍
