Every VTuber is categorized as seiso or unseiso by their communities based on their actions and behavior. And while the definition of Seiso is a bit of a difficult concept to categorize, this video will try to explore the subject as best as it could!

Believe it or not there are fans who have ZERO interest in sexualizing any of these girls and actively avoid any content that does so (except when it makes for a really funny clip). For us its not about needing a "break" from lewdness or drama as you said. Its about not wanting any of that in the first place. If i want sexy, vtubers are not where I would go for it.

I hope there's a similar audience for male vtubers as well, as my natural way of behaving in public spaces is completely devoid of profanity and lewdness. So far, though, it has seemed to be more of a detriment, as all the successful male EN vtubers besides Shu seem to lean into language and sus behavior while people like me are wrongly labeled as fake, boring, unrelatable, and even as potential predators. (I've experienced all of those firsthand)

I think the main difference in the seiso group is people that want to be seiso and people that really are seiso. There are a lot of vtubers that want to appear seiso for a variety of reasons (maybe the hope for bigger appeal or just prefer to be seen that way), so the seiso is basically the role they choose to play. But then there are the vtubers that might not even know what seiso really is, but they are really really seiso, maybe because they lack knowledge, or they are just too nice, so they can't even bring themselves to be 'bad' or 'unseiso' (Rosemi trying to play the sadist from time to time is probably a great example).

Pekora is very Seiso to me. She might be a girl in a literal bunny suit, but she is winning the sponsorship race because she is surprisingly childhood friendly. Pekora's violent outbursts are all of the Saturday morning cartoon villain variety. Pekora is playing the role of Daffy Duck. I am not sure how much of that was acting and how much was what she is truly like. But we know that in her past life she did try to be sexual briefly. If she decided the lewd path is not for her, I am glad that she managed to succeed anyway.

Wholesome lewd is a thing. Honestly, Marine is a pretty big example of it. She is one of the more openly lewd members and pretty much the most lewded one but her relationship with her chat can be rather sweet and wholesome. As for Shiori and Vtuber tropes, I haven't seen Advent interact that much (they are both new and their stream timing is also rather bad for me) but from what little I have seen and general vibes I get from Shiori (who I watched somewhat more of compared to rest of Advent) she seems to fit the leader role/trope.

@@gokbay3057 ya, she for sure seems to be the leader, but I was asking more in terms of her classification on the seiso scale/subclasses. As far as advent goes, I’ve mostly followed Shiori but their group dynamic is really interesting. It may be too early, but they don’t seem to have a heart to me. Rather they all seem to just click so the heart isn’t any one person in particular. And each member is very distinct in terms of appeal (Fuwamoco the cinnamon roll, Nerissa the powerhouse, Bijou is more chaotic and shitposty, and Shiori the comfy(?))

Despite being a Saint Sora doesn’t really have unicorn problem. Might be because she has been here for so long that they all got filtered over time. Also she has a lot of good will build up that many OG Vtubers even back then only have good things to say about her. She just has that Aura that no other have. You either want to worship her like a divine being or you want to protect and take care of her like she is your younger sister/kid. You get this weird dynamic a lot in her stream. Where Soratomo calls her Aka-chan (baby) since she is often pretty childish and giddy when she streams. But every now and then she flips the switch and becomes a professional giving the Soratomo life lessons or talking about the troubles in her life and then you realize “Wait a minute, she has been doing this for almost 6 years now” then you are just at aww with how she talks. Her words have a strange weight to them that I can’t really describe, that you just can’t help but kneel in respect.

This video made me realize that most, if not all, of the vtubers I watch are in this category. Specifically, the Half-Seiso and the Seison't. Biggest reason why I mainly stay within Holopro (I do watch a few indies and other corpos, but I can count them with my fingers). I've been watching Gura for 2 1/2 years and have never been bored once. She's a gremlin, then she's cute, she's incredibly wholesome with her Chumbies, she plays the lewd mind game, she slips and lets her yabai side out, she goes on a schizo rant about making sweaters out of cat hair. For me she's a lot of tropes rolled into one, an incredibly interesting person and most importantly very real in being herself the majority of the time and not really putting on an act for views IMO. I can't be anything but the impolite of a lewdtuber. I don't even use profanity nor innuendo in my daily life and won't force myself to be fake by using such in my content. So, I guess that makes me a rare seiso indie male EN vtuber. Which kinda seems to be an anti-selling point, thus far, reducing my reach and visibility. I won't change myself for that reason, though. At this point in my life, I refuse to change for anyone besides myself. I just hope I can reach the audience that enjoys wjat I have to offer, because it's currently hard to get the visibility needed to do just that.

KoiPapa himself, Josuiji Shinri is DEFINITELY a sleeper seiso. He's successfully branded himself with the whole comfy cozy, "single dad" brand in HoloTempus and had also stated that he does not want to make lewd content, but regular viewers of his would know that sometimes he would reveal his infatuation for ghosts and demons and whatnot. He's Laios-coded, basically. Gold Bullet from ARMIS is kinda similar, but he seems to be significantly more open about it. He once said on stream that would not hold back once he starts doing ASMR content. It helps that he is very much himbo-coded too.

I think a good analogy for un/seiso Vtuber types is like categorizing amusement park rides. Some are known and meant to be gentle, and others are meant to be a an exciting rollercoaster. Sometimes the gentle rides have their thrilling moments because something unforeseen happens. Rollercoasters stop or slow down at times, creating moments of relaxation. And of course there's the in-between.

I'd say that we can fit the trope. I'm a living example of one who doesn't even use profanity nor innuendo in my daily life, so I'm naturally devoid of such in my content. Problem is, it seems that being such as a male vtuber more often results in a detriment to the breadth of one's appeal and reach, while female counterparts reap the benefits laid out in this video. I've personally seen people calling seiso boring, fake/not real, unrelateable, and have had someone tell me that my very nature made them suspicious of me as a potential predator. That kind of unjust negative connotation was kind of a wake-up call to how people can view a clean male vtuber. Regardless, I have no intention of being anything but my genuine self. I just hope that doing so doesn't prove to hinder me long-term, as I'd like to someday be able to afford putting more time and money into videos and streams than I'm currently able to.
