Notice how many machines that Derek uses? I don't see any heavy barbell squats or deadlifts. Yet his legs are getting a great pump and look well developed. This is proof that you don't have to do extremely heavy free weights with fast ballistic reps to get results. Slow well controlled contractions give much better results and a much lower injury risk. Great demonstration video.
