Although the constant dripping into the bowl was a nuisance, the big problem was the awful noise it made ,removed the siphon body with a quick twist , and flipped over the rubber seal , Problem solved , no more leaks and the horid noise had stopped .

Toilet fixed - thanks to you guys. Mine had to be twisted anti-clockwise to get out and when I put it back I realised that it had not been fitted straight so when tightened looked crooked. Maybe that is why it was leaking as the plumber did not turn it fully til it clicked and it gradually started coming out. Glad I did not need a new part. Great how you give extra information during your videos. Thanks again.

Great video sorted my problem. couple of points to note. The water supplied to the toilet may be from the tank in the loft and turning the mains off (if you don't have a isolation valve) won't stop it filling, probably need to find a gate valve to shut it off. Some siphon units have clips at the bottom that need to be pressed simultaneously then pulled up to remove. Mine was leaking into the plan because of those blue tabs that go in the cistern so they clean your toilet bowl as you flush. Alot of scaling had built up this was getting caught under the rubber seal (shown in the video) when I flushed!

Great video AL. My toilet started leaking between the tank and the pan on the donut ring and thanks to your videos i fixed it easily without any problems. One thing i did notice thou and its related to this video is that on my flush system it has a small pipe from the fill valve that connects into the overflow pipe. When you flush this tiny pipe continues to pump water into the overflow until the fill valve shuts off. This seems stupid to me but it does it deliberately to keep the pan full to prevent any sewer smells coming. Wastes water but worth mentioning

OK, probably due to being a fairly new cistern the slots were to the side, rather than middle, of the push buttons. The main body was held in place by a couple of clips at the bottom that were easily released (if you don't have big workman's hands like I do, and the sealing grommet (the whole body, actually) was different but the seal could be easily pulled out and re-inserted upside down - there was a barely noticable mark on the sealing side, maybe 10 thou' deep but evidently enough to allow some leakage. It was a very small leak, heard rather than seen, but it is now fixed and this clip got me pulling finger and actually doing it - less than 5 minutes total :-)

Not my cistern type. I have two long tubes from two push buttons. All very compact and much plastic inside.

@@dereton33 thanks I will take a look. It's beyond my knowledge anyway I think. Plus as a non plumber I'd have difficulty getting the parts. I've been quoted £90 plus parts to fix two leaking toilets. That seems very fair - as he thinks the parts won't cost much. One is likely a seal. The other another part.

I have this problem but opening the loo it’s a fluid master I have installed so it does not looking much like this demo. Any ideas? There’s a wire which attaches to the flush button
@dereton33
@dereton33 7 ай бұрын
The syphon will need a new sealing washer or just turn the old one up the other way. The fluid master you have installed is just the filler valve.

@dereton33 thank you for a great informative video. Quick question, my toilet is similar to one in video and continues to flush but just has a very small trickle of water running. Should I follow same steps?

My problem is that the WC is built-in to a shelf unit so there is no access from above. I have a front plate that has the push-button unit which operates hydraulically i.e. forced-air through 2 small tubes. The cistern is constantly leaking water into the pan so I suspect the seal has gone. Problem - the front access is only 8 cm high. I can reach inside to the syphone but would there be enough height to unscrew and remove the syphon from the front? Dont want to try it unless is jams/breaks. Thanks for advice.

Al.. did you need to disconnect the water supply to the cistern using the isolation valve?
@dereton33
@dereton33 8 жыл бұрын
Only if you need to take the syphon right out of the cistern and remove the cistern from the pan. If it is one of the twist and pull out syphons, then just turn the isolation valve off.
