The only thing that finally healed mine was zero therapy. IT took one whole year to fully disappear, and now my skin is better than ever. PD is usually a sign your skin cannot handle the chemicals you are putting on it no matter how 'minimal' they are marketed as. Some of us cannot tolerate skincare. Trust your skin to repair itself. If mine can, anyones can. It just took a year of pain, sacrifice and patience

Did you go without fluoride toothpaste for a whole year as well?
@Melissa-xd7zf
@Melissa-xd7zf 8 ай бұрын
@@sarahhyde3284 No, flouride toothpaste had nothing to do with my PD. Mine was caused by applying skincare products to my face. Its actually frustrating that flouride toothpaste is cited as a leading cause of PD as while it may be a cause particularly for children, for adults who having been using flouride toothpaste their whole life with no issue and are suddenly developing PD, this isn't going to be a cause. 90% of PD cases occur in young women, who no coincidence are starting to apply skincare and makeup. So the cause needs to be studied further by dermatologists. Dermatology is really behing in regards to recognising how sensitive skin can be damaged by even 'hypoallergenic' products and how this is leading to the current epidemic of rosacea, acne, PD, seb derm etc. Just remember PD is a barrier issue, something is damaging your barrier and you just need to find out what that is. Zero therapy for at least 6 months the best option as nothing can come into contact with the barrier and it can have the time it needs to heal, and it does need a long time, for me a year, but the body will heal it.
@Melissa-xd7zf
@Melissa-xd7zf 8 ай бұрын
@@sarahhyde3284 no flouride wasn't the culprit for me, skincare products were. If you have been using toothpaste your whole life and have suddenly developed PD, then its highly unlikely you have suddenly started reacting to it after 18 years when it hardly touches your skin anyway. Instead pay attention to the chemicals you have put on your skin in more recent months/years. Not eveyone can tolerate skincare products. Flouride in toothpaste can be a cause for babies and kids but far less likely for adults despite what dermatologists like to claim.

I had perioral dermatitis twice. The first time I did zero line treatment (no makeup, no moisturizer, etc) with antibiotics. Lasted around 6 months. I got it again, a year or two later. This time I used makeup and adapalene. Last 6 months again. Then I discovered azaleic acid 15%. I originally started this for some acne scars but I realized anytime I started to get dermatitis bumps, I would put the Azelaic acid on the bumps and the bumps WOULD NOT SPREAD or WORSEN. I haven’t had a full blown rash in years. I have only seen a few dermatologists recommend azaleic acid for perioral dermatitis because I don’t think anyone actually knows how to treat perioral dermatitis or what causes it.

Where did you purchase the azelaic acid? I’ve been looking for a stable form and sounds like the one you’ve found must be stable as it has worked for you. I use a prescription cream but have wanted to try this for maintenance and at early stages or recurrence. Thanks in advance if you get my message

@@carak4356 I get a prescription for the 15% azelaic acid. You can get that from a dermatologist, Goodrx care (you have to pay a fee for the virtual consultation), or Apostrophe is an online dermatology company that compounds the prescription for you. The Ordinary makes a 10% azelaic acid topical you can try too. I personally used that only once and didn't like the texture but wanted to mention that option as well.

i had my first peri orificial dermatitis flare around 2-3 years ago brought on by a chemical sunscreen. i really really struggled with confidence and ut is so validating to see many commenters share my struggle and know what its like. here are some tips I've learned while dealing with this condition: - tap water often contains fluoride, washing face with distilled water helps - avoid vaseline and lip balm, for me, it makes it worse. even the generic unscented ones. -oil free moisturizer and look for non-comedogenic products if you must use them. - azelaic acid helps with the texture. even though it will get flaky, it will get smoother after. i hope you all will experience and maintain clear skin soon.

Thanks for this information. My doctor caused me to develop perioral dermatitis. I had a light skin rash across my eyebrows and upper eyelids for a few years and no commercial lotions made a difference. I asked my doctor about it, and without looking at the rash, she recommended an OTC light steroid cream and to only use a fragrance free, minimal moisturiser and not wear makeup. This did absolutely nothing. On a further visit, again without looking at the rash, she said she would prescribe a stronger steroid cream and added "if that doesn't help I don't know what else to do". That was an extraordinary statement because a referral to a dermatologist would surely be the next step? Anyway, having been given NO instructions from the doctor on how long to use this new cream, I started using it once a day as per the instructions on the tube. Sure enough, it worked a treat - almost completely clearing the rash and underlying redness after a week. Because it had not completely cleared, I continued to apply it for a further week, started coming out in little itchy blisters. Within days of it starting, I was in a full blown rash across my eyes, under my eyes and across my nose, down into the cheeks and up across the forehead and into the hairline. The itch was unbearable and I looked absolutely GROSS (I'm not attractive anyway, so majorly depressing). I managed to get back to see the doctor and on seeing me, said "Oh, you've had a reaction to the steroid cream. I'll put you on an 8 week course of Doxcicyline. It'll give you acid reflux, so go to the chemist and get something for that." I mean, WHAT THE HELL? So I began researching and did as Sam has suggested - no makeup, no creams, no fragrance shampoos, etc. The itch kept me awake for 3 nights until I found a lotion for such problems which worked very well. I only took the antibiotics for a week but they made me ill. I threw out everything and started experimenting with safer products such as LaRoche (that's worked well), CeraVe, Aveeno, and so on. I was advised by a Dermal Therapist not to use any "actives" until things settled and that took about 2 weeks. But then I had a breakout at the side of my mouth which just will not go away. I believe that is actually as Same has said - the Sensodyne toothpaste and the mint floss, so I'll hunt around for alternatives. I think I should bill my doctor for all the product cost involved - but I have learned a lot more about proper skincare through the KZbin dermatologists. At the moment, only using LaRoche cleaners, LaRoche moisturiser and a soap-free bath wash by Dermaveen. One product I highly recommend is the CeraVe Advanced Repair Balm which is a bit like vasaline but works very well. Good luck everyone.

A long term sufferer of PD and the most recent 2 triggers I believe were fluoride and mask wearing. Also being pregnant didn’t help. I do believe stripping back on skin care is key and it’s about restoring the skin barrier together with anti inflammatory products help such as azelaic acid. The other thing is trying to not let it bother you as much although its much easier said than done.

I can attest that I’ve had the best results with completely eliminating all skin care except basic cleanser and moisturizer and most recently I purchased Dr. Samantha’s Prequel line (Gleanser, Barrier Therapy, and Utility Ointment) and my skin has been the happiest it’s been in a long time! I thought for the longest time, I just had an allergy but weirdly, it always happened during vacations. The triggers for me were mainly because I used topical steroids, and during vacations I always use sunscreen. Additionally it's usually a different environment, with more sun and wind exposure. Plus I'm an avid makeup user lol. Recently, the flare up was the worse, with pustules. It was very itchy and somewhat tender, all over the sides of my nose down to my mouth, the inner corners of my eyes, to my eyebrows. I stopped using anything, even cleanser or sunscreen. I just washed my face with warm water. Then what really helped was Erythromycin 0.5% supposedly 1% but the 0.5 worked just fine. I used it 3 times a day, then just stopped when it was gone after a few days. Also, I just hid my face with huge sunglasses and a cap and tried not giving a shit when I'm on vacation, supposedly taking pics but feel ugly asf.

Around the end of 2021, the edges of my lips started to dry quickly and itchy and lip balms weren’t keeping it hydrated enough. Months went by and it got really bad (the area around my lips were red and looked swollen). I finally went to a walk-in clinic and they diagnosed me with PD and said it was caused by my prolonged use of masks and licking my lips. They prescribed me with a cream and said it should be gone after 10 days of use and while it did go away, it keeps coming back. My lips definitely retain hydration better but when it dries up, it really dries up. Super frustrating.

Thank you for this 🥺 So here is my story. I have acne prone skin and last 2022, I decided to take accutane. I took it for 10 months. It all went well, my skin cleared up. Although, during my journey, I developed ring worms on my body, i’m not really sure if that is eczema. By the end of my accutane, my skin was better. Until 2023 of november, I suddenlt developed blisters on my face. It wasn’t pimple or acne. Just out of the blue, small red spots started appearing. Now the only products I use was Dove soap bar, Cetaphil moisturizer and neautrogena sunscreen back then. My skin care has always been simple. Until I decided maybe my skin needs a break. So I did remove all those and decided to go for some laser. Again, my skin got better. I thought it was it. I had no idea at all what it was. Unil this day. Last tuesday, I noticed my face was so red. My routine changed btw. I’ve been using neutrogena blackheads toner, neutrogena nourishing cream and anessa sunscreen. For the past few months my skin was at it’s best but recently I honestly don’t know what went wrong. I started thinking maybe it was the ashwagandha I recently took? I don’t know. Or the moisturizer. So again, I eliminated my moisturizer and went back to my derma for laser. But this time a different laser. It got better but the tiny red bumps like blisters are still on my right cheek. Until today, it’s all gone now but there are red marks 🥺 I’ve been figuring out what it is and thought maybe it has something to do with eczema. It’s definitely not pimples or acne. I was starting to give hope because my skin is flaring up again. I’ve been only using a sunscreen. After seeing this, I might leave my skin as it is for now. But in all honesty, it’s super dry and I can feel the tightness it’s bothering me 😢 I hope you can give me some advice for this issue

I had this in all 3 places, around the mouth, next to the nostrils, under my eyes, and even eyelids. After consulting the internet, I ceased usage if ALL products; sunscreen was a hard one to forego. I found a dermatologist, but by the time she could see me, I was cleared up. I then started adding things back in, slowly. So far, so good. I have ultra sensitive teeth, seriously, I need to microwave fruit so I can even bite into them. I found a fluoride that didn't burn, so I was using it every day. And because it didn't burn at all, I would keep it in my mouth extra long. I just started it back up again last night. I use a bit less, swish it around a shorter amount of time, and just a couple of times a week. I hope this all works out. Anyway, thank you so much for doing this!❤

@asherasator
@asherasator Жыл бұрын
That's because the Tea Tree killed the yeast which is the real cause. Which then allowed your skin to heal. Antibiotics are a major cause of this because they can alter the microbiome allowing yeasts to proliferate. Antihistamines play a huge role too because they affect H1 receptors that also control sebaceous glands which then don't secrete properly causing further skin drying and damage, that allows yeasts that feed off the fat of your cells and microbes to enter deeper into the dermis, then the immune system wants to react. It's a horrible viscous cycle mostly caused by psychotic MDs.

The main cause of POD is a not intact skin barrier. This is what you have to tackle. This helped me a lot: Morning Routine: - Thermal Water for „cleansing“ - Creme with ingredients that are close to your mikrobiom (I use the TOLERIANEDERMALLERGO) - mineral (!) sunscreen Evening: - cleanse with mild cleanser (I use Vichy thermale) - same Creme from above - once a week mild exfoliant ( I use enzyme peeling) Stick to your skin routine at least 3 months!

I have this right now and it's SO PAINFUL for me right now. I just brushed my teeth and just the menthol getting on my lips caused it to burn so badly. I went to a walk in clinic and the doctor was shocked when she saw how quickly it spread throughout my face. It's all around the left face and it's painful, but I'm sure it will pass. I'm just using a very plain facial cleansing routine. No dyes, no perfumes, and no fancy ingredients for anti-aging and I'm not going to use ANY MAKEUP! Luckily my Boyfriend is super supportive and he tells me it's not too bad... IDK if he's just trying to make me feel better but it helps.

Mine was caused from my birth control pills. I was on Apri birth control pills for years. Finally I figured out the issue. I had perioral dermatitis for many years struggling to get rid of it. I tried every topical ointment, steroid ointments, and creams. Literally nothing was working, in fact when I used creams and oniments prescribed to me containing cortisone and steroids my rash got WAY more inflamed red. Within about a week of using *(as prescribed by my doctor) my rash had spread around my nose and up to my eyes. I tried cutting out everything, from fluoride toothpaste, to shampoos containing SLS, I cut out gluten and sugar. In the end it was my birth control pills. I had stopped my pills and my rash was completely gone in a span of 2 weeks. I had gone to about 6 different doctors and dermatologists over the 6 years I struggled with this rash. And never once did any of them mention if it was a possible side effect of the birth control pill. Maybe it's not a well known side effect caused by birth control pills

I’m pretty sure that tretinoin caused mine. I would get dryness and peeling around my mouth, then I harshly scrubbed it. Bad mistake! I have had a few flares in the past couple of years. Doxycycline is the only thing that works for me. I use Tretinoin again, but I keep my skincare very simple. Products I am using that haven’t caused a flare, Paula’s Choice Calm line cleanser, Beauty of Joseon sunscreen, and LRP Triple Repair Moisturizing Cream. Also, I can use the is clinical cleanser in the morning. If I stray and try to go back to my favorite products, I flare. Toothpaste isn’t a trigger for me. Oh, most foundations I try cause a flare.

I’m seeing my dermatologist and they’re trying to help me out but it feels like it’s getting worse and worse and I can’t tell if that’s meant to be the process. Worse before it gets better?? This round, as always 5 mgs every other day, has caused me a perioral dermatitis but, paradoxically, my lip mucose is ok, it has NEVER experienced dryness even being on daily 10 mgs🤷🏻‍♀️🤔. Ask for a prescription for Azelaic acid 15%. You will most likely need to moisturize before putting Azelaic acid on because it will be itchy while you adjust to the treatment. I have had perioral dermatitis twice and I can vouch this is the best method. Antibiotics did nothing for my rash.
@asherasator

I’ve dealt with it on and off since I was a teenager. My old dermatologist had diagnosed me, but my new one “loosely” diagnosed me with rosacea. I just went to see him again and again said use either Fucibet cream or Noritate. I went with option one now it’s out of control after I thought it was initially getting better. Now I’m on tetracycline, and stopped makeup and normal skincare, switching to Avene gentle cleaner. MY QUESTION: is Noritate considered a steroid and will it make it worse. What are your thoughts on zinc soap? I am finding my outbreak is sore, and feels “alive”. Is there anything else I can try to get relief? Oh and to make it worse, I have a propylene glycol allergy.

I finally saw a dermatologist after a couple months of trying online and doctor suggestions. Based on the severity and spread of mine, we went straight to oral doxycycline and topical erythromycin. It is currently cleared but if I use any creams, serums, or pimple patches on the areas, I start to see a flare.

Taking oral antibiotics long term is not a good idea because a) It makes you become resistant to that antibiotic so it cannot be used for future infections b) it increases yeast within the body leading to thrush infections c) lowers your immune system. I was given a two week course of oral antibiotics by my doctor after several visits to him and dermatologists (also using numerous topicals). Antibiotics never worked and now I use a perioral dermatitis face cream by mama nature (proskin eczema) It got rid of it and occasionally when I get a mild flare up due to hormones it takes the rash away in jig time. My PD was BAD but now my skin is normalised.

I used soooo many different creams which my doctor prescribed when I was 18 and first had PDermatitis. Didnt use cosmetics. Some months before I had full blown PD I used morning-after pill (hormones) and later had few bad stressful months when I started to overeat (emotional eating..). Could be those two thing combined which made my gut and who knows what else function badly. Dermatologist didnt ask these question, I later figured out it might do something..but anyways docs did nothing. Prescribed bunch of creams which did nothing or even worsen condition. I put myself on diet, did more sports, went to sauna regularly. Don't remember how fast it went away, but it did eventually. At around 30 I got it again. The same pattern this time also of what I did wrong (morning after pill, overeating). Now its worse :(..7 years already. Have not been able to do the old routine. Max for week and no difference ..surprise surprise. I think it is related to gut SO MUCH.

i suffer from this as well. if saying these few words would help anyone, I'd be the happiest. please take it with a grain of salt, I'm just someone commenting. I believe this condition has to do with 1- gut health and 2- liver dysfunction. this's what I come to find out, personally. there must be something bad going on in these 2 organs. whether it's: infection, inflammation, bacteria or viral or parasitic, our gut is suffering from something and our liver is clogged from toxins and so it's not really filtering out harmful substances. it most probably has to do with the food we eat. fast/junk, fried, canned or preserved foods. all contain a certain kind of toxins that harm the gut and clog the liver. as well as skin products and makeup, as the the doc suggested. I've been going herbal to help my gut and liver filter out any accumulated toxins over the years. making tea using herbs that are good for gut and liver health such as: cloves, rosemary, black pepper, oregano, cumin seeds, ginger, turmeric, sage, anise seeds, fennel seeds, mugworts and dill seeds. i boil what needs boiling (5 min) and then I soak what need soaking (5 min) and then i drink a full mug of it throughout the day and my general health got better. of course, with limiting my diet to as organic options as possible.
