Adam, in my opinion, is your best video! Good cinematography and directorial work, an interesting activation story, a charming companion, an overnight stay at the top and a starry sky - great!

Another great video. I also want to thank you for inspiring me with CW. Although I’m an older person (only been licensed just a few years and CW much less). There are not many SOTA sites in SW Ohio so it POTA for me. Because the basic exchange is similar and how you display in on the video is Great. Thanks again, 73 de Roger, W8RLP

Much to the chagrin of some of the NCOs, I sometimes check into the 40m Noon Net (7.2835MHz and out here on the western states) with CW mode. I'm often in the field and either have only a CW rig with me or I'm only running 10w with my KX2 or KX3, which can be a little light for phone. There's usually one or two NCOs who can copy code, so I get checked in and know that I'm getting out. One time one of the other NCOs said "Buy him a microphone!" That made me laugh out loud.

Happened to me last night in a UK vhf contest. There's normally reciprocity between signals, but my rigs receive performance was not as good as the other station. Then of course there can be different levels of local qrm. 73 de Steve M0KOV

Great video Adam I have a question. As you know I just got my General last month. And I’m planning on getting a Yaesu 891 soon. What battery are you using on the peak and what’s the run time to watts your able to run? Or what do you recommend for the 891 to run a healthy amount of watts for a long period of time? 73’s W6MDE

The Bioenno 12 Ah brick is definitely the way to go. I use the 1212A model and it fits snugly into a padded pistol case with the radio. It should give you 2-3 hours op operating at high power depending on duty cycle. The 15 Ah model would be another slightly larger option if you want a bit more. Either way, it's a solid combo for full-power portable ops.

Thanks Patrick. The battery I used on this trip was a homebrew 6 Ah LiFePO4 built by AD6DM, Dennis. My usual battery for 100w portable ops is a 12 Ah Bioenno LiFePO4.

What batteries do you use for whole day QRO operation?
@K6ARK
@K6ARK 3 жыл бұрын
For a whole day at 100 watts, I would bring a 60 Ah LiFePO4 cell. I don't normally operate from a summit for more than 2 or three hours though, so a 6 or 12 Ah battery is usually sufficient.

You just gave out your address and let everyone know that you're not home! Anyone listening in could drive to your street, look for a house with antennas and then burgle you. Be careful what you transmit!
