i think your parking problem isnt that you dont have enough, but you have too much. if you build it, cims will try to use it, rather than using public transit. you need a public transit method to/from the other side of the river. and make it cheap and efficient to take train/tram or subway into the city.

To increase usage of public/mass transit, try lowering the fares. So far you've tried to decrease car demand with expensive parking but I think a steep discount in the mass transit will be a stronger incentive. Additionally, a central parking district with public connections might be a good option. Restrict more roads to public transit and emergency vehicles, and swap for pedestrian roads. To add a proper park, maybe put an alley or pedestrian road in that one area in Fairview? In any case, I'm enjoying the series and looking forward to catching up on the episodes!

I have a name suggestion for the commercial section down by the river: Shockoe Bottom. It’s a historic area of downtown Richmond, Virginia along the James river that was once all warehouses and factories turned into apartments and commercial buildings.

Great video, Darren, glad to see you back in SC2. The crashing issue has been happening to a lot of us. I lost 2 cities in a row, because the game crashed as soon as I booted it up. Not sure if it's mods or just another bug in the game...

On the hard crash issue, I had exact same. Totally fine on pause, soon as time plays, boom. Hard crash back to windows. Found the culprit to be a lorry prop I placed. Loads of other props worked fine, that one lorry just would crash the game everytime. If you placed some props, I bet it’s one of them causing it. Took me a good 2 hours of messing about with the save to find it as I had placed a good few props that day. Ps love the videos. Look forward to them.

RE Parking: I've seen in my cities that if you watch individuals, sometimes you'll see them park their car and leave it there, and go home by some other means. I guess there's just a bug where people effectively abandon their vehicles..

You could make the main path a pedestrian street and then put a park in the park 57:29

If you put a pedestrian path on its own, it wants to connect to a road. If you connect it to a road, it creates a junction. You could then try strip the junction of all car logic, but it would still cause a break in the tram tracks / road divider. It also looks a bit odd in my opinion, as its so wide. I hope they'll add "alleyway" sized pedestrian streets.

You should build a university town a bit outside the centre! Then you can add all those specialized university's and make a little campus community independent of the city!

Hey darren .....i guess the problem for the traffic issue is that the scale of things u built is a bit small......i mean the roads u built.....they have very less distance in between two places......like the ai has to do many maneuvers very fast like changing lanes and deciding turns which leads to accidents and it slows the traffic behind.....i may not have explained it very well😅 but i think the roads and the scale of everything should be more spaced out.......i mean its very fast or sudden or very close to each other that everything seem to be packed on a particular point ( like the traffic is on the road where the bus station is ) it's a bit conjusted.......love your videos ❤

Hey so if your still trying to go for a kinda uk city vibe for black water then you should definitely try recreate the Glasgow Main Street where it’s mostly shopfronts facing a large pedestrian walkway, I think it would look amazing as a big commercial area especially if you condensed all the shops next to each other instead of breaking them all up with paths to match the vibe of it

The reason I broke them uo with oaths is because there are gaps between the buildings anyway, but people cant walk between them so i created a 1 tile gap so that at least the “alleys” between buildings are walkable. I’ll look uo glasgow though, was there once before but I never saw any pedestrian street 😅 probably didnt go to that area!

Idk man. I wouldn't want to climb all that distance just to cross the street. When I was in Germany (it's common throughout Europe tho) they have large intersection sectioned off where you cross one part of the street then you end up half way on a large island and wait for the next green. Then you cross the rest of the way. I know that option probably isn't available in this game but it's a bit cruel to make your sims do all that walking just to cross the street

It's defintly you not being good enough with parking and public transportation, your new area is very bu it self, there should obviouly be a path over the river or something. It's a skill issue (sorry), becasue me and many others have down towns, and not major traffic issues, even a youtube video showed that with a city removing all it's public transport didn't increase the traffic right away, since the person had such good public transportation few people actually owned a car, that means they need the economy to suddenly buy one. So your problem is that your new area is very by itself. (watched under 10 min when writing this).

That's alright, I don't think its anything to do with across the river, its the people who live in the built up area, can't find parking, and I guess I was hoping that most people here would use public transport. As a test I put down 6 car very large car parks, they all filled up. I guess I'm just not sure why they are so car centric right now as I've provided transport to every location. It wasn't an issue for me in Cities 1, so I'm just trying to figure out what needs to be done to remove the need for cars.

I turn it on and off throughout the episodes. While building its necessary to brighten it up, especially during winter, but when checking out the city I turn on the normal visuals.
