I am addiction free and I have one piece of advice. You need to have a desire that is immovable. Dont listen to all these "mind tricks" because if you have to resort to tricks, you dont have a pure desire to change. For the first weeks where I had urges, I said "I am willing to die to live a virtous life." No matter the intensity of the urge I always said "If this kills me but it means I can live a clean life, so be it." When you are willing to DIE for a noble cause, your spirit kicks into a different level. God requires a broken heart and contrite spirit.

aye baller I am in the same area as you brother! I have been struggling with this as well. One thing that has been helping me is setting goals in the name of Christ! Set it for one week, and then two and just continue on. Journaling in your phone or on paper helps as well. Write a journal entry every night before bed declaring your victory for Jesus on that day! So much truth. I watched porn several times a day from 12 to the age of 34. Did not exercise self control. I lost relationships, financial opportunities, nearly got arrested and expelled from university. Still didn't realize I had a problem. But the moment my wife left me, and I thought I would lose her if I kept watching, I refrained for over a month and my viewership cut by 90%. Since getting to know Christ, it's down by 99%, with the occasional lapse in judgment. It only happens when I fall for the enemy's lies. As I continue to increase my love, faith, and willpower in Jesus, I know he will completely deliver me from it.

I overcame pornography through Jesus, I kept praying and reading the word. Temptations are still there but I find it easier to flee from ❤️ 2 weeks ago I remember the temptation was so strong but then I switched to my Bible app then read a few verses and then prayed for the temptation to go away. Do not compromise, do not treat it as a little sin or it's okay, it'll seep in slowly if you do not act fiercely over that sin.

Relapsed hundreds of times..if not thousands. It was ONLY through a couple days of intentional *FASTING* and *PRAYING* that I received my deliverance. Hello, @@putdislikehere8760, I did a water fast..4 whole days. (Some people go longer, some do less, for a beginner I would recommend one day. Be mindful of any health issues that may interfere). No food whatsoever, just water whenever I felt hungry or thirsty, an occasional pinch of salt to balance sodium (electrolytes), and a daily multivitamin.. It feels like you're about to die (but you're not lol). Your body will go into ketosis (battery saver mode) and burn fat for energy (best way to lose fat). The point of it is not starving yourself, but to say _"Lord, I need you. I desire your Word more than I desire to satisfy my body's cravings. Strengthen me; Deliver me"_ In these moments of denying our flesh and opening our hearts to God through *Prayer and Thanksgiving* , He speaks to us. He delivers us. Praying for you, The victory is already won! 🙏🏿🙌🏿

I’m 26 years old and I got liberated not to long ago. I know how hard it is to stop. The “I’m not going to do it anymore” then falling back into old ways and then crying over the shame and guilt. What I started doing is the moment a thought pops in my head, or I look at a woman the wrong way, or a picture pops up on my phone, I ask God to renew my mind in the name of Jesus. One thing that helped me in my worst moments struggling with lust was that I used to say to myself that "I'm not going to hell because of porn/sex...I'm not going to miss being with God because of this" I want to see and be with God one day, and I'm not going to exchange that for 70 years of sexual gratification - even with the most attractive women. We are saved by grace, and that's important to remember. You're right, you will not go to hell because of lust or porn, no matter how many times you fail in those areas. Because your own ability to refrain from sin is not what guarantees your salvation. It's the work of Jesus that was finished on the cross. Do good and right by God because you love Him and want to please Him, not because you are worried about trying to earn your salvation.

The turning point for me after 20 years of porn and sexual fantasy addiction. I was talking with an older Christian friend who told me that after he was addicted for many years, and feeling like no amount of prayer would heal him, one morning he woke up and he said he knew that his addiction was cured, and he never feel again. After that testimony, I felt faith like I never felt before. That day I prayed to Jesus like I had so many times before, asking him to take my addiction to hell and to free me of this bond. The difference this time, I really believed that he could do it, I really believed I could surrender to him. I am 3 weeks clean at the time of writing this and have never had so much self control in my life. I still get temptation all the time but now I feel I have the strength in my Messiah to resist, and it definitely feels like the strength of another power, not my power, the healing power of Jesus. I feel like the woman who knew if she could just touch Jesus' cloak, she would be healed of her internal bleeding. Jesus said, "your faith has healed you". Have faith my brothers and sisters, faith in the One Saviour will heal a multitude of sins.

1 Corinthians 7 Paul states that he wished every Christian had the gift of sexual purity, but admits few do, so he advices those that do not to marry. Christ in Matthew 12:11 states the gift is given to few. If God healed you, great, but most of us will not get healing because Christ did not promise and on the contrary he said the opposite. So I would think people need to chill over this, the blood of Christ was shed for this sin, and that is sufficient for those of us that cannot stop watching porn.

In heaven there will be prostitutes, lesbians, porn addicts, adulterers, and all sorts of people that have no sexual purity of their own but have the righteousness of Jesus Christ which includes Christ’s sexual purity (not mine). My salvation depends on Christ’s obedience, not on my obedience. Nobody, not one single man goes to heaven because he is sexually pure but because Christ was sexually pure. it is Christ that kept the commandments for us, we do not keep the commandments, Christ has done it for us and has abolished the law by fulfilling it (Ephesians 2:15). I am under grace and not under the law, there is no condemnation for me when I watch pornography, period. God has issued his non-guilty verdict at Calvary which I received by faith and no sin of mine no matter how grievous can undo the non-guilty verdict pronounced 2000 years ago (2 Corinthians 5:19).

I really want to help you, but the victory over sin is only possible, when Jesus is our lord. "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." (Romans 6,14) So that's the first and most important question: Did you ever repent and come to christ as a lost sinner, who needs the lord? Do you know about that specific time in your life, when christ called you into his grace? These things have to be clear first. "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (Romans 8, 3-4) Please think about these astonishing words once again.

Amen brother! I believed I was a slave to sexual sin and porn for 20 years until I understood Paul in Romans saying I am not longer a slave (we who were baptised to Christ), and the true cost of continued choice of this sin was eternal punishment. I didn't understand that I could be free and that I must be free. It has been almost four years since I have learned this and God has helped me overcome this and I walk in freedom since (almost four years now). Praise God. The stakes are too high to ignore, and the freedom is available to all who are born again of water and spirit. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ! @@rjhorn1 First of all, are you born again? Have you repented towards God of your old life of sin and been baptized to Jesus for the washing away of your sins? Have you received the gift of the Holy Spirit who helps you walk in the new life you have been given? Read Acts 2. Romans says if we have died with Christ (baptism) then we are no longer slaves but have been set free, but warns us even though we are now free not to think we are unable to go back to our sins and suffer the eternal consequences. This bred a healthy fear of God and unwillingness to turn from Him and loose it all. There are far too many warnings to the saints about the dangers of continuing to choose sin and being cut off from Christ. I obey Jesus because I love him and I fear him, and he has given me his Holy Spirit to walk in victory. He has done everything and given me everything necessary to walk as He wants. He did not come just to cover sin but to remove it!

Your expounding poor theology, if you trust in stopping porn for your salvation instead of the blood of Christ, you my brother have a problem. You are correct that the Christian is no longer a slave to sin as Paul says in Romans 6, but Paul also says in Romans 7 that there is another law in the members of our body and that when we sin it is no longer I that do it but sin that dwells in me. I pray for all of us to overcome any kind of sin. ♡ The first action of overcoming lust is acknowledging that it is a sin. One tip to turn away from lust is to be aware of the things you see online. Sometimes even though you don't want to see things that trigger lust, it comes up as ads or retweets on twitter. I honestly stop using twitter due to this reason. Evil can easily slide its way to your attention. Second of all, I am proud that everyone here is being honest with themselves and to the people that saw each comment. Letting other people know about your struggle helps you realize that it is something that will never benefit your life in general. You may not know but they might have similar struggles as you do. And lastly, lust corrupts the soul and it eventually corrupts your mind. I don't like myself whenever I do such sins and I also don't want to be around people who are corrupted by lustful doings and thoughts. We have CONTROL over ourselves through the help of God. Humble yourselves that you can't overcome the struggle of lust without allowing him to help you.

In my life I've found power and victory over lust grows more and more as I grow as a person. For example, when I realized there really is a spiritual battle and that it was satan who convinced me I was a loser, I grew a little, he could no longer oppress me with that lie. Or when God showed me that I have already been set free from sin, I grew a little more because I realized I didn't have to give in to temptation. Or when I stopped believing that God was gonna take away all temptation from my life so that there would never be a temptation ever again - like God was going to totally and instantly transform my heart all at once because I prayed about it- when I stopped believing that lie and realized that there will always be a fight, but a fight i could win with God's strategies, (because my own strategies were not working) I grew some more and the power of lust grew weaker still. Not giving in to sin is a powerful thing. When you get the urges, even if you feel them, it is far more "dignified" to feel yet not let it control you. Feelings come and go. But acts... they are what defines us and our willpower. We sometimes can't control our lust. But we can control whether or not we act on it. If we can keep it in our minds that acting on it is bad for us and will shatter our dignity and honor, and if in those moments we CHOOSE not to crumble under desire (and it IS a choice, no one's forcing you to do it, you make the choice to do it because it feels good) the feelings will pass, and we won't feel guilty (at least I don't, feeling lust vs acting on it is worlds apart in terms of how it makes you feel later on). When you get desires, accept them, let them do what they want in your body, don't act on them, and they will pass. When you sin, you choose to obey them, you WANT to obey them in a way, because it feels good to give in at that moment. Once you realize that it is your choice, you will be set free. It is YOUR choice to seek God. It is YOUR choice not to act on your feelings. There isn't a force in the world that can make you sin, there are only forces that can CHARM you into sinning, and you WILLINGLY fall for it.

Well, there it is. I’ve struggled with this sin for years, but the pastor’s argument is solid. I need to put on my big boy pants and say no. Because, in the end, the stakes are very high. I am a recovering alcoholic and I know real addiction. There was a time I’d give up my family for a drink. I know this because I did it. I cannot truthfully say that I’d give up my family at the end of the day for the sake of porn. So, I do have control over it. This revelation is not condemning, it is freeing. What I used to stop was renouncing the demon everytime it put it in my mind of any lust. I said "I rebuke the spirit of lust in the name of Jesus" "I rebuke you Satan in the name of Jesus" Then I'd speak scripture over it to be my shield. I'd say these 3 verses when I got the urge.... Indeed the spirit is willing and the flesh is weak, I can do anything in Christ who strengthens me, your word is my shield. This let me know his spirit is stronger than my fleshes desires, I can do anything with his help and speaking these verses are a legit shield in the spiritual realm against the demons. This is actually what I do for all thoughts that demons speak into my mind rather it be prideful, lustful, gluttony, envy, gossiping, hateful, anxiety, fearful and more. As a truck driver I definitely struggle with the lust. Porn ain't my thing. But to be a single man and seeing what women wear these days, (yoga pants, leggings and form fitting and revealing clothing) it gets harder and harder out here not to lust but I oftentimes catch myself and think about what Jesus said. "Whosoever look upon a woman to lust hath committed adultery with her in his heart already." God is bigger than any situation so keep me in your prayers everyone. I absolutely agree. I clicked on this video because I saw the title and it angered me. Porn addiction is REAL. There is a lot of research to back up the fact that using porn has very similar effects on the brain as using drugs does. Some would argue even worse effects, in some ways. I really don't appreciate the statement that porn addiction isn't real, just because we can overcome it. You know what else humans are capable of overcoming? Drug addiction. But we still recognize the addiction, because it's valid and important. Also, in some ways I would say a porn addict might not be able to completely overcome their addiction, in the same way that people who haven't touched a drink in years still call themselves alcoholics. You aren't going to see them in a bar, because they are addicts. For some people, barring a miracle, that might never fully go away. And ignoring that or pretending addiction isnt real is incredibly dangerous, and leads to complacency that could lead to relapse.

I’ve always struggled with the word “addiction” when it comes to non chemical dependency behaviors. No offense but the two examples he gave, cut throat or 1Mil cash could apply to any so called addiction, even if a chemical dependency, albeit temporary. A close friend of mine told me a true story last night. He advised a young kid, several years ago, who was suffering from nightmares. His advise was to sing praise and worship before going to bed and sing if he awakes from nightmares. Within a few days they disappeared. Sounds like good advise for any addiction.

At best Piper shows a misunderstanding of addiction. At worst he fails to validate the experience of the addict. I believe he is using a personal definition of addiction which only focuses on specific instances of temptation rather than looking at the over-all pattern. He speaks of isolated incidences where one can choose to abstain because the consequences would be so dire thus proving one cannot be really addicted. But addiction is not about never-ending and indefinite acting out regardless of the consequences at hand. When we talk about sexual addiction we are talking about coping mechanisms developed over time to ease life’s pains and hurts that the person feels he or she is unable to stop (opportune situations for acting out) despite destructive consequences. This complex psychophysiological process can manifest in sexual behaviors that are temporarily pleasurable or offer momentary relief in which a person soon craves, suffers negative consequences from, and has trouble giving up. Even if a person can give up the physical acting out (like in Piper’s exaggerated scenarios), those original hurts and pains are not resolved. An addict who has not processed his past is still an addict, regardless how long it has been since he acted out. In the end, sex addiction is never about sex; it is about learned behavior to medicate pain. If one really wants to find freedom then that past pain and hurt must be healed. Simply stopping the behavior will not stop the problem.

Please pray for me. I am addicted for like 14 or 15 years already. It got grip of me when i was a young teenage boy. It started off "innocent" and a few times, unknowning it was bad at the time for a long time even though i was raised Christian. And it got worse over the years. At a young age (before 10) I already had some urges. Idk if its my body being overflown with hormones or if its my mind because I had these urges so young without having seen any sexual images. Now the last few years I become more addicted, or atleast i'm more concious of it and I tried stopping a few times with only very short amounts of succes. The longest i have been without is like 6 days in a row in the last few years. The only exception was when i was recovering from a heavy surgery, wont go into that but i was free from it for about 2-3 weeks because my body was busy with recovering. Now I watch everyday or every other day if I can manage to hold the urges. Sometimes 3 days but then i break down. If i'm in my addictive state i do it up to 2 or 3 times day avarage... with thoughts flashing in my head don't do it. Sometimes i skip after those thoughts. I believe in Jesus and I asked for help, He gave me help and then I could hold on for a few more days but I always fall back into my old ways.. I want to have a stronger faith, no more doubts or bad thoughts in my mind. But at the same time i'm affraid that I don't have enough faith and will fail to reach Jesus and that i won't be forgiven. And I know it is said in the Bible that I shouldn't be affraid of God and Jesus.. but here i am..affraid that my faith is too weak. I don't want to belong to the people that hear the Gospel but don't do anything with it. I try to tell my girlfriend and friends to believe. My girlfriend who isn't a Christian even made few steps, even reading the Bible(started a few pages) and she prays when she is affraid or lonely. This is the only thing I did that felt right.. I don't know if It's my body and I can't do anything about it because it started at a very young age, or that it is simply lust or a combination of the 2. Morning when I wake up and evening before I sleep it's probably the worst. Please pray for me because I am tired of the battle.. tired of failing the Lord everytime..affraid of His punishment because I keep failing Him..I know He forgives our sins but this is a habital sin...

When it comes to porn watching or anything else, that means coming into 100% agreement with God about what is good and what is evil and that you need to turn away from. And that agreement with God in your heart is the key to answered prayers (Isaiah 59:1-2, 1 Peter 3:12). You must not call good what is evil and call evil what is good (Isaiah 5:20). If you're still enjoying porn, then you are not showing to God that you recognize it as truly evil and want to turn away from it for good (that's absolutely necessary). Now, if you do hate it, you will stop watching it. You may suffer for resisting the temptations to watch it and that's normal. That's what the "cross" is about (Mark 8:34). That is the sacrifice you make out of love for God if you want to live for God and please Him *above all.* Jesus will completely deliver you, but you have to do your part. I pray you are willing to do your part and genuinely repent to get on the same page with God about porn and everything else in your life. You must start submitting to God and resisting the devil (James 4:7-8). You will then see the results. It's not your physical make-up that keeps you addicted to porn. It's the lust/evil desires in your heart (or the desire for evil things). Repentance is where you address that as you approach God by cleansing your hands and purifying your heart (James 4:7-8). You need to understand the way to approach God and approach Him that way. @@yestothetruth thank you for your prayer. It's been 5 months now and I have tried with up to a few days of succes but in the end i fall again. I'm more succesfull if im with my girlfriend but we are not married and have sexual contact. The only difference is in those times i do not watch porn which make me happier because i focus on her. Now she is not a Christian, but she is becoming a bit more interested lately which gives me joy atleast. We talk about the Bible but she has still a far way to go but the interest js there atleast. We have been together for almost 3 years now. I know It's not good because we ain't married...but it makes me feel more free from porn. But as soon as im back home without her i get urges again. I want to progress but in all honesty i'm tired of the fight against it because i keep failing.. and then i start not to care for several days or weeks and then i start again like why am i doing this.. and the battle begins again.. the cycle continues. I'm tired of the fight, but i am also affraid of being lost forever..i watched a christian message and it was saying this is your last chance and i felt personally aimed for... i fought for 2 days and fell again and now i feel like i blew it for eternity. I feel like a lost cause and it darkens my mind. I have so much respect for Jesus because he never sinned and He had the same human urges yet He did not fail once. And there are so many people's testimonies both male and female that had the same issue as me and they overcame it after a long battle. I want it to be my turn to be victorious over the lust but right now i feel so tired of fighting it.. I'm affraid that I'm too far gone even tho i know Jesus took our sins on him.. it reminds me of the bible verse(i forgot the guys name) but that he cried about his sin but it was not sincere anymore and was not forgiven. I don't want to become that guy, but maybe i already am. I hope not.. Sorry for this long message. I feel in a dark spot right now because of the tiredness of fighting it

And the right way is simply submission to God. You can no longer act like God does not exist or does not see what you are choosing to do. Again, what you do comes out of your own desire and choice to do it, it's nothing in your body forcing you to have a certain behavior. So, what is submission to God? It's really having a heart that is ready to obey Him in all. Since you believe in God, you should be able to imagine Jesus next to you giving you approval to watch porn or telling you to not do it. Same for any and all sin. You have to put forth the effort to understand well what you need to be an overcomer with Jesus and not be overcome. I had suggested you read a post, but I don't know if you did or how far you got in trying to apply the principles. I'm ready to help you in Jesus' name. but I need to understand where you got stuck or what you didn't understand. Your fight includes work you have to put in like someone who is building a house on the solid foundation of obeying the words of Jesus (Luke 6:46-49). How much effort have you put in having God's word in your heart (Psalm 119:11)? Without that, you cannot fight the devil. I want to say it like it is. I'll ask you a few questions for you to think on (no need to give me the answers). How are you loving your neighbor as yourself when you are watching porn? Can you finish watching porn and go thank God for that woman who is suffering as a slave in the porn industry? Forget the sexy smiles. You are being sold a lie and you are buying it. So, you cannot pray for that woman and her coworkers to be delivered from that porn industry because you like that it exists and you are supporting it with your heart that is in it. No need to spend money. But if porn wasn't free I believe you could find a way to pay for it. That's what we do as humans when it comes to everything we love. I hope I have stirred you to reflect on your choices. Know that God is ready to forgive you as soon as you approach Him in humility, with a repentant heart and a well made up mind, like the prodigal son who came back to his senses and returned to his father (Luke 15:11-24). The key is to genuinely repent. And forgive others as well so that God will also forgive your own sins (Matthew 6:12, 14). While pastor John is very wise and right to an extent, he obviously doesn't know how addiction works. An addict can temporarily say no to whatever it is they're addicted to if the reward is high enough or punishment severe enough but that doesn't change the fact that your mind and body have been conditioned to want and need that substance. That doesn't mean that saying no won't hurt and have withdrawal effects. Eventually withdrawals will occur. This happens with any addict to any substance whether it's drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography. Any addict who says no will have withdrawals after a while, that's why they eventually break down and come for more. Yes willpower has a lot to do with it but if your mind/body has been conditioned to need or want something it will want that something whether you fight it or not. I was a porn addict for nearly twenty years and there were plenty of times when I could for short periods of time resist the urges out of necessity but next chance I got, I went back to it. Any addict would say no temporarily to get 1 million dollars. But I promise you that after they get paid they're going right back to it. He has a point to a degree in what he says but it ultimately doesn't hold any weight against the medical science and research that has gone into studying and learning the REAL addictive affects of pornography on the human mind. Porn addiction is a real thing, whether you want to admit it or accept it or not is inconsequential to that fact. I used to be addicted to porn so you can't sit here and tell me it's not a real thing. I believe u are trivializing the point he was making by concentrating on a perceived inaccuracy. The point he is making, IMHO, is spot on. One participates in these activities because the consequences or aftermath of such an act is not immediately apparent nor severe. Therefore, it can be said that the belief of the individual is what sustains or frees as individual from participation in the activities associated with Porn. He never claimed that there is no such thing as a porn or lust addiction but was speaking to the large majority of cases.

To me he is banging on a pulpit to try to somehow bang it out of people. I can understand and see people just making excuses saying they are sick or just addicted and have no choice or responsibility. I can agree we are still responsible for our choices even if we are addicted. I just don't see the point in him flying off into a rage over it. AND I agree with you: an orgasm is a pleasure producing thing that releases dopamine into a person's brain. It is going to condition a person's mind and carve neural pathways if they keep coming back to it over and over again. You see the same kind of stuff with drug addicts, a repetitive vicious cycle. It is going to take time to heal those ruts. Simply banging on a pulpit is not going to do the trick. Instant deliverance or a 12 step Celebrate Recovery group is the way to go. Or we can keep banging on pulpits until they turn to saw dust and ultimately nothing ever changes.

It really is as simple as self control and the willingness to obey God. This is what Jesus meant that the circumcision is not of the foreskin like in the old Testament but circumcision of the heart (Spirit). Plus when you're born again you are a follower of Christ (The Anointed) and as he was crucified in the flesh and on the 3rd day he rose again. We are to crucify our flesh by denying it all of the lusts in life and it's not meant to be easy. Take yourself out of situations that cause you to be around and tempted to lust and covet. Trust me, I struggle daily too but with God's help everyday, you can make major progress and be spiritually strong through the Word. It takes Discipline!
