"I can't imagine anyone sitting down to play SF2 with a 3 button pad today". Well, you did, mate! Excellent video as usual and, while I didn't realise until a couple of minutes in, found it a bit odd there was no game audio. I was one of the poor bastards that had to put up with this 3-button config back in the day. It's amazing what we would put up with back then if it meant being able to play SF2 at home.

"There's no training mode and thus no auto-guard option in MD Street Fighter 2, player 2 does begin holding down-back in all of the clips after the initial hit [...] this was done with an arcade stick at my feet." Good lord, Desk. Being able to combo on a 3 button pad wasn't enough, so you used your feet to block your own attacks? I'm always interested in the mechanics of older fighting games, so I would be down to watch that video you mentioned in your description.

In the early 90s, I had a Super Famicom and the original version of SF2. I asked my friend who had a Sega and this game how they played, he said the Start button alternates the punches and kicks and it cannot pause. I thot he was kidding me at that time. 30 years later, this mystery is solved! 😂

So when's the video where you do comboes while playing with your feet? And then one where your hands play against your feet? And then you go to EVO and your feet take first place and your hands take second?
@JackgarPrime7 жыл бұрын
Maaaaaan, this brings me back. This was the first time I ever took on an alternate grip for a controller for purposes other than being able to mask faster. Of course, I eventually went and got a couple 6 button controllers, a format I honestly miss. The 6 face button style practically turned it into a quasi-arcade stick.

I could see a Neo Geo version of SF2 going with this setup of using D to switch between punch and kick. “6-button” Neo Geo games tended to use 2 buttons together for heavy attacks, using pairs of buttons as light & medium.

Desk you have to be the greatest gamer in the history of games and I feel like your fans need to know you better
@fernandomartinez44867 жыл бұрын
You can see Desk is plinking the start button into whatever button he wants. Also, he inputs the command sequence followed by the plinked buttons. Combo example: jab, jab, QCB -> START + Plink HK. Or a simple Low MK QCF -> START + Plink HP. The game must have a good degree of leniency to accept the motions of the move and discard the START button, waiting till the actual right button is pressed (a punch or a kick). If there wasnt such leniency, the game would take the QCF + START as an incorrect command and nothing would happend... maybe the normal attack that was Plinked with it would come after but thats it, no special move would come (if the game wasnt as forgiving as i say, it clearly is and that is why motions with Plinked START + "any button" work).

Please go into the P/K Switching in more depth even if there isn't much practical use besides maybe emulating the game someday. Thanks, Desk. P.S. Reminds me of style switching in DMC4 and wonder how more games could capitalise on inputs which are often ignored. The only game I've played which used the Start Button for anything interesting in real time was Lost Planet 2.

The easter eggs I believe to be the mouse at the Zangief combo(which desk made fun in a video a long time ago when someone complained about the mouse on screen). I imagine that happened a lot back in the day. Did you get the game with a manual? I don't expect the game to have a tutorial or notice to let you know how the different controllers work so if the manual did nothing, word of mouth would be the only way besides practice.
