I'm sure you plan to do this: On steel boats it makes sense to have interior furniture components easily disassembled with screws and sometimes very strong magnets. This makes periodic inspection and future repairs infinitely easier. You are doing great work and it will be worth it. Modern coatings and sealants help reduce maintenance on steel boats. Jotun brand makes an entire line of superior maintenance products for commercial steel boats. Once you are done you will have a fresh beautiful boat that you can sail with confidence and you will know it inside and out.

I have followed a number of old vessel refurbishments, including my own old trawler, but these folks are the first ones that truly moved me to join their patreon support. I would strongly encourage any and all who find their channel as interesting as I do -- to become a patreon supporter at whatever level you can. These folks have some serious expenditures ahead of them, but the end result will be amazing. Let's do all we can to help them, nice comments are fine, but a small monthly boost would be better!

Hello 👋🏻 I’ve watched all your video’s and I live on an old ship too, also in the Netherlands. My ship is a luxe motor from 1942. I’ve been out of commission for about a year now because of a burn-out, but I want to say that your hard work and especially your energy really feels inspirational to me and makes me want to be picking things up again. No comments on the way you’re doing things, everybody does things their own way and for what I’m seeing you’ll be just fine.👍🏻 Looking forward to your next video!🙂

I really hope that these great people are prepared to give up so much from their life to do this. It's never too late to walk away and admit defeat. This boat should have been scrapped. When it's finished,if ever, the amount of money spent ,could of bought another beauty in great condition. You are both very brave or perhaps a bit crazy to take this on. What makes all KZbin channels succesful, is the connection between the creators and the subscribers. Sure the type of content appeals to different people and will only appeal to certain people. For those it does appeal, the connection is then what really matters. We have to buy into, invest, if you will, your journey. Absolutely, production quality matters but if you mix it up in the way you described, your channel will continue to grow. I love what you're doing and look forward to following your progress. I recognize that it must be difficult to know what to put as content in your offerings, but as you can imagine your audience is as varied as it is populated by so many! I am a senior citizen, with experience in many of the fields that you face, having years of work in marine and construction work. As you face "the moments" it is certainly apparent that you move forward with forethought and knowledge of what is needed, both by the outside contractors(doing repair work on the hull) and your own vision of what the various spaces will be best used for when deconstruction is completed and the rebuild begins. Best wishes in this massive endeavour... Rome was not built in a day and over the past 70 years I am still building! LOL Blessings!

the down side of posting on youtube are the negative comments , now for a real positive comment , regardless where you end up with this ship the 1 thing you will end up with are cherished memories when you are old , for 36 years i owned a 57 foot boat and i did an 18 month refit that 80% of the people i knew said i was crazy and when it was finished everyone loved it and i look back on those 18 months as the best part of owning my boat and now at my age just cleaning up after cooking diner seems more of a monumental task than building a ship , ENJOY your youth and each other

Thank you! FLYING CONEY really is the project of our lives and we are so glad that we can share this journey with you. Was everything going according to plan? Definitely not! But on the other hand we did a lot of research before we bought the boat. We knew that it will be an adventure and that there will be things we aren't prepared for. We are still within budget for the hull but it's the right at the maximum I've calculated with. What really caught us by surprise what it does mean to work in a shipyard for multiple months. I remember one of Leos first videos were he states that he probably can re-use most of the original planking. But he knew right from the beginning that Tally Ho is a massive refit project. But you have to be optimistic when approaching such a project otherwise you would run away like the devil is chasing you.

Mr Cooney, I have a WONDERFUL idea for your work area. Think about this. Cut a hole out or the side of your boat between two ribs from floor to ceiling. This is easy on a steel boat. Then you have EASY access in and out AND for throwing out trash and bringing in supplies. At the end weld it shut!

I just came across your project, so am catching up. I am Dutch myself, and recognize what you say. Back in the previous century (that feels so wrong to say), I got mesmerized with tall ships. Seeing them in Sail Amsterdam made my heart beat faster. The Netherlands is a world of water. We don’t just live because of it, we live in spite of it. And though it is our greatest foe, it is also our greatest ally. I am not sure if you can understand, but when you live that long together, love or fear become one. It is just emotion. I’m thinking of becoming a patreon, as I am for quite a few ship rebuilds, but nearing retirement as well. And that means I have to cut back on gifts. I guess you’ll find out 😀
@FlyingConey14 күн бұрын

Really appreciate your sharing of the rehabilitation of your ship! I am reminded of the riddle: "How do you eat an elephant?" The answer: "One bite at a time." The fact that you put all the effort into video production on top of the enormous task of renovating the boat is very much appreciated. It’s very hard to remain optimistic while tearing things apart. At least when the removal stage is completed the reconstruction can begin, and that is so much more satisfying. We appreciate that you are sharing the progress.
@FlyingConey Жыл бұрын
Thank you Bill! The hardest part of tearing the whole ship apart was that we never knew what we will find. A few spots that need a repair are not the end of the world but a general problem throughout the ship could have always put an end to the project. But with most of the interior out we started to be optimistic again. Also because we didn't knew how much work was there to come.

One of the things that makes me smile is how that mustache always stays so perfect ,and why a certain person not to be mentioned here by name always seems to do most of the nastier jobs .And just so you know i do think you are achieving your goal of having the best quality ship rebuild posts on U tube or anywhere else .And I for one appreciate it and thank you for your efforts and the time you take to do so.
@FlyingConey Жыл бұрын
Thank you Logan, I hope that you get your system repaired soon. It was a good feeling to finally have access to all the critical spots on the hull. At that point we really knew that it will be possible to rescue the ship and that there are many spots that are in need of repairs but it's not like, everything needs to be rebuilt. We're really looking forward to the point when we can finally start to build up again and put a new interior in. But it will be a few more years until we reach that point.

It's so nice to see you two carry on as the only place to go now is up I think you have reached the bottom now its time to start climbing up and get rewards for all your hard work it will come and you will be so glad you have done it and in the right way this time the interior build wasn't designed well and cheap materials were used and built like a house but its a boat so better woods have to be used as you well know marine ply and hardwoods like red oak and the likes plus keeping the wood away from the hull and only using stainless screws and nuts and bolts it gets expensive but it will last and if you design the interior right it will look like the expensive motor yachts you see today it's going to take a few years but with perseverance, you will get there so all the best from john from Rugby UK.and ps yes I do think it will be a good idea discussing ideas of what you want from the boat and how its going to look and to start designing the interior maybe with someone who is a professional boat interior designer so you know what materials you will require and maybe get a youtube shipwright to help you guys as you do need help there is so much work to be done and I am sure you would get plenty of volentiers to help you along the way I you was in England I would be one of them being a deisel mechanic I could show you how to rebuild the engine and modernise it for future use but there's plenty of me out there who would give you a hand for free just feed them . so there is a lot to think about seeeya.

It was Daniels first time really working with an angle grinder. He did a few cuts here and there but on this day he went through 20 cutting discs. The Metabo 125mm Angle Grinder came with a quick change nut. In order to get the disc changed the grinder must be plugged in! Although the chainsaw is probably the most dangerous tool the grinder is some sort of a seductive devil. Everything on the chainsaw tells you, "I'm dangerous". The angle grinder on the other hand talks you into very stupid mistakes. "Look you can also attach my grip on the other side." "I'm so light you can easily hold me with one hand." Although wearing always the safety googles after that day Daniel found a sprinter burned into his regular glasses! On the inside! Also the sparks are hot and it's probably better to wear welding gloves next time. If you watch carefully you will notice a plaster on one of his fingers in the upcoming videos.

Maybe you should consider buying a plasma cutter, and also som type of extraction fan.
@waterboy8999 Жыл бұрын
Check you have the blade the correct way up, I think the nut should be on the metal ring on the disc and the writing facing up, just incase. And don't be tempted to remove the guard to access anything awkward. Stay safe.
@andrewdavies4604 Жыл бұрын
All tools have their place, but there are better alternatives to a 125mm angle grinder for straight forward cutting. I wouldn't be cutting those distances with a 125mm, I'd want a big Nine inch angle grinder, with quality 1mm thick blades. Much quicker, much more opportunity to maim yourself. They are pretty dangerous if you don't have the experience. A power Hacksaw (or Reciprocating saw) is much safer, doesn't produce sparks, is probably quicker, and the blades last longer. A Nibbler is far safer, so is a plasma cutter. A good quality Oscillating tool, with good quality steel cutting blades, is quick, and much safer than anything else. Cheap ones don't have the power. If your scaling rust off, a needle scaler is far more efficient than a grinding blade, but a LOT more noisy....
@arnastubuttwehak994 Жыл бұрын
Angle grinders ... yeah. They have a few ways of hurting you. If the discs lose integrity and fly apart, that's a lively scene. Never had it happen, but I've seen videos and it always makes me cautious.
