Here’s a thing he’s gotta try…. I’ve had 2 Firman Gennys…. But they haven’t been inverters. One was a 7000 and the newer one is a tri-fuel 9000. A very important thing we noticed…. It’s much quieter on propane. Also much cheaper to run these days. I don’t know if the inverters will display the same behaviour…. But you should measure on propane and see.

I have the Predator 3500 and use it for camping. Easy to roll out of the back of my camping utility trailer. Use it to charge my 200 AH AGM battery that keeps my camping fridge cold. Also use it to charge batteries for 3 eBikes. Plenty of power to charge everything at the same time. Very impressed with how quiet it is on eco mode. Seems quieter than most of the other generators I walk by in the campgrounds.

I have the Firman that I got from Costco. It’s been great. I use it for camping. It’s kind of a pain to change the oil, but that’s my only complaint. I’ve changed oil 5 times. Other than that it’s an awesome unit.

I've changed mine only once so far, but it was very easy! What I did was get a contained car oil drain pan and set the unit on top of the drain pan and let her drain... Then fill it right back up. The oil is contained inside the drain pan and no leaks.

The firman has the plug for an rv cord to plug right in while the predator will require a mod/connector. The delay on the firman allows you to go ahead and plug in your rv plug and then the unit has a delay much like at a campground power source where you would plug everything in and then flip the circuit breaker on the campground power outlet - this works great. When you are ready to cut the generator off you need to unplug the rv cord first and then power down the generatorl

Little Harbor Freight hack, if you buy the warranty on the generator you can return it every year or every 2 years and get a brand new one no questions asked. You can even upgrade.

Nah, the exhaust was pointed to the back. I just bought one before Hurricane Beryl and it points to the right of the control panel. But, it's still pretty quiet and has more power. So of course something putting out more power will be a little louder.

My dad bought that same Firman from Costco. I have the Predator 3500. His isn't terribly loud, but the Predator is quieter. I have been asked at least twice while out camping what generator I had because it was so quiet. However, I will admit... - I installed a wheel kit because those tiny wheels are useless. - It's jetted for sea level out of the box. If you are more than 2500-3000 ft. above sea level, take the time to jet it to your altitude. I had to buy mine. Firman made my dad take it to an authorized repair facility, but they covered the cost of getting the high altitude jet installed. - They make kits for for adding propane to the Predator, but with the Firman you get it out of the box. - I installed a remote start in my 3500. Well worth the money. I do like my generator, but when you boil it all down, I think if I got the propane kit it would be nearly perfect, but now I'm in about as much as the Predator 5K that has all this out of the box and more power.

I bought a firman on sale about a year ago ran extremely good was so stoked on it kept it in good condition and well maintained at the 5 month mark electric start gave out lost all power took it to a shop trough the warranty I was told they have a compression issue an to just return it I did and got the same unit and had the same electric start issue just returned it and got a champion just my experience but hope it works for everyone that gets it 🤙🏽

I also want to add that propane is quieter than gasoline on the same generator because it it less dense. That is why the power is a bit lower using propane and you'll notice the consumption will be more costly. I've though about connecting the main propane line in my RV up to one of these with a remote start and making it semi-permanent install. Such as a ventilated storage closet with the connections and some extensions, and have it reasonable to remove for distance or other mobile uses.

I was gonna buy the 3500, but I already had the Predator 8750 that I bought 3 yrs ago that I hardly used. I use it everyday for detailing it is loud,but it's a work horse. Used it to run my whole house and my 5ton AC unit ( AC unit was ran by itself) but I'm very pleased with the predator generators.

I bought the Lowe's version after watching your video and reporting back. This thing was obnoxiously loud out of the box even in eco mode, so bad I started looking for a muffler option and I'm a guy who used to drag race back in my day. 😅 I've put about 20 hours on it now and it's much more tolerable. I'm guessing there's matting in the muffler that needed to break in or something. 🤷

I just bought 2 Firman 3242F refurbished by Firman on their Ebay store. They were $449.00 each and given the 3 year warranty. I got 2 in order to parallel them if I want to run the house AC off of them during outages. One will run everything else as needed. I think. With $65.25 and free shipping, The $965.23 seems like a good option for cost worry. Plus the Firman puts out more power. So a little louder because of the big engine is fine for me.

That Firman wh02942 is on a Friendsandfamily coupon deal right now for $499 right now and doesn't have that CO sensor on it...thankfully. I'd avoid that 90 warranty Predator line like the plague unless you like buying "replacement service plans" forwhen it breaks after 90 days. Then buying another one. Firman is 3 years. I personally bought the Genmax GM7500aIED from Sam's Club on sale at $799 shipped and bought the Allstate 3 year warranty for $89. Been awesome so far.

The Firman outlet covers only lasted a year stored covered in my garage. Apparently the plastic really doesn't like the ozone in Arizona. Other than that, really good, cheap, and VERY quiet (for a generator). Pretty sure I got it on sale at $499 or $599. I still have a more powerful Champion that got me through a couple of hurricanes when I lived in South Florida, but it isn't an inverter generator (but is dual fuel). It was what Amazon had in stock that could be delivered before a hurricane was supposed to hit, and is really loud (you can also hear the difference a modified sine wave makes on things like a fan motor). I really recommend the dual fuel, propane stores pretty much indefinitely.

I am completely happy with the Predator 9500 to which I added an external 14gal tank and built a shed which can hold two predators. I've only had to use it once in the nearly two years that I've had it for our all-electric home. It is pretty quiet and even more so in the shed.

Honda 3000IU, have had at cabin since 2007 , probably thousands of hours, no hour meter , this may be the difference between Predator and others (life cycle). We are off grid, Honda water pumps, and generators, they are the top, for sure. I have a 30+ year relationship with Honda Generators and water pumps. They always deliver, no reason to debate that. but if comes to $ then another story.

Very interesting our return/warranty experiences are so different, the two Harbor Freights near me are more or less no questions asked, went something like: Me "getting close to the warranty expiring on my 3500 and it's got this wear spot on it" then "ok here's a new one have a good day". While the thirty miles away Costco isn't big on returns, but I haven't tried a generator so maybe it depends on the product or if your try for a refund instead of swap out.

Question - I enjoy detailing my black, GMC Yukon every 1.5 - 2 weeks. I really liked Turtle wax, "Max Wax" followed with "Flex Wax". Beautiful depth and gloss. I recently found out about the dangers of graphene oxide in the body, its really bad, and I will no longer be using or purchasing graphene products. Im pretty focused on Ceramic products now. Because I detail so often, I dont need a super long lasting product, but I do want depth, shine, protection and ease of use. Do you have some suggestions to replace Max Wax & Flex Wax that doesnt have graphene? Thank for your input!

Josh if the Firman hasn’t been broken in it could still become quieter. I’m sure you’re going to like it once it’s fully broken in. Have you used any of the Champion Inverters? I have a 4650 Inverter with Bluetooth start and it’s badass too.

Thats a good point, but I actually remember the Predator being even quiter than it is now when it was new. The firman is still an ice quiet unit though... Just not quite as quiet. I used a Chamiobn 2000watt inverter generator and it was great. I actuallty gave it to my brother and he still uses it to this day!!

Both great generators - but you are comparing a generator design from Harbor Freight that has been around for many years, even though they have had some updates. The Predator Dual-fuel 5000 would probably be a better comparison even though it is a little bigger output.

Great video man! One thing I noticed is that the exhaust on the Firman was pointed toward you when doing the decibel reading where the predator seemed to be pushing exhaust away. It seems obvious that the predator is quieter but the decibel reading on the fireman may have been lower if the exhaust wasn’t pointing towards where you’re measuring.

I actually had them pointing the same direction. I know at one point it did shoot out a bit of smoke which made it look like it was from the other side, but they were both exhausts were paint up the driveway and away from the camera. I thought the same thing you mentioned when i was setting up so i made sure of it!! Thanks!!

you're supposed to let the generator run for a few minutes before plugging anything in. and I'm not giving my opinion, I read it in the manual if you're buying a generator, please remember this comment. and never plug anything in the generator until it's been on for like 5 minutes. lastly, unplug everything *before* you turn the generator off. let it run unplugged for a few minutes to stabilize, then shut her off

I have a Predator 3500 that I have used for RV camping for the last 4 years. Over 1000 hours on it and I routinely let it run out of gas while plugged into the RV. I also rarely let it run for more than a minute or two before plugging in. It still runs great. I don't read manuals so had no idea. I did check the valves this summer and only had to adjust the intake side a little. Great generators.

No oil change since you bought it, MAN, that wrecks engines since there is a good amount of metal purged in the fist 10 hours of running. I do at least 2 oil changes in the first 6 hours of running before I will even go 25 hours.

Looks like the Firman has a 193cc engine and the Predator has a 212cc engine. Yet the Firman is pushing more starting/running watts. That leads me to believe that the Firman would almost have to run harder/louder to generate the same wattage. I own the Firman and its been great, but it's definitely not as quiet as some others I have owned (due to less insulation).

DUDE change the oil...it's an AIR COOLED ENGINE! they use oil up a lot faster than liquid cooled and it's one of the quickest ways of destroying an engine..unless you could care less about spending the money to keep buying new ones then whatever. I hope your vehicles get the TLC they need LOL!

ha i know..whats crazy is ive had an electrical issues on generators in the past (it would fire no problem but power wouldnt transfer to the panel), but never issues with them starting or running. But dont worry i have done the maintenance on the generators and my pressure washer since this video. I do maintain them but definitely not on the schedule thats recommended
