@matthewpalm24834 жыл бұрын
Definitions are important. There are quite a few in this discussion which are important to wrestle with which will help to guide our discussions. Oxford Definition for Religion: 1)The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. 2)A particular system of faith and worship. 3)A pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance. Religion isn't bad. There are people who unfortunately use it in ways not with God or glorifying God.

The boat while I sit. We are on the shore. Ocean 🌊 barely touching the boat. Like when you stand at the edge of the ocean and the water barely hits your toes. I just see that over and over again. In therapy I learned tapping. KZbin it. EFT tapping. I do things that use both my brains. So I color draw or craft. Moving the body helps to. Walk around your yard. Or take a walk. No headphones. Just walk. You’ll realize you are moving. Which is better than sitting. And your mind can’t wonder because it’s moving.

wow, I totally agree with you sister! Having grown up in church, I am coming to a point of frustration where it seems like nobody can help me. I'm given all the 'right words' but it's not enough or helping. Like, who am I meant to be? Judgement has been passed by many, even and especially those closest to me - not that I let anyone truly get that close due to 'internal wounds' (that they say don't exist and that I just have to get over/overcome[but they fail to deal with in their own lives...})L.O.L. #Inception #squirrel... They seem to be unable to draw me out - in love bring about my hearts confession of that which God created me to be and do (be first). They want me to say the right things... read the Bible over the Honda Manuel that God spoke to me deeply and personally though regarding identity and the thoughts/plans He has for me. He made all and can use a donkey to speak to us - where we are at. Thank you for sharing that. "You need counseling?" "You go to a recovery group?" "You have issues?" yeah, and you don't? ;P #DENIAL! Thank you all for reading and letting me share. =)

My goodness, can not believe people would treat you as such, mainly "Christians". Know that a person who truly has God in their heart would never make fun of someone's condition (regardless of what it is) I'm so happy you decided to give yourself to God! Congrats! You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) You CAN go to Church. Don't let anything or anyone stop you. Look at the thirst you have for the word of God! Sadly now days we stop going to church because people gossip and they are Hippocrates, I myself have been in the situation but I understand that I'm there to worship God, to be closer to him and can't let people affect my relationship with God. Also know that church is not a building. Church is the people. God says where 2 or three are gathered in my name I will be there. Matthew 18: 19-20. And not only that God says " I am with you always, to the end of the age" Matthew 28:20. He will never forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6) even if you are at home or anywhere and are watching a sermon or reading his word, praying to him or worshipping him, know that he is there for you and with you!! Even if you don't attend a physical church. And you can't love what you don't know. So the more you get to know him (by reading/listening to his word) the more your love will grow, also peace and faith! May God bless you greatly!! 🙏

For Mi family members they have so many health issues from not addressing anything for whatever reason, keeping the peace, ashamed, too Godly, etc. They don’t hear Mi when I explain how they’re not free to be themselves, behind the facade. So, 1 the book, 2 the conversation and 3/4 Pastor/Scientist the only way to weaken a thing is to address that thing. To God be the glory.

I understand her completely. A lot of christians take words from the bible and throw it at a situation or throw it at the enemy instead of living in it , walking in it, and working through it. The concept the Holy Spirit is using her to speak to is John 1:1 : In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. If we are commanded to be like Christ, then it is also commanded that we must be with the word and BE the word, meaning live by the underlining lessons and act in it's underlining practices to see change.

@GWorld36 жыл бұрын
MalayaM. It is no secret that Christians dismiss real problems. Most of them overlook the power of empathy scripture instructs us to have towards others, especially towards those who are in need. However, prayer is the most effective solution anyone can advise someone to do in crisis. Who are mere people to resolve ANY situation that not only did God foreknow, but also allowed? Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours (Mark 11:24. ). "Just Pray" is the wisest advice anyone can give.

Your experience is so common it might be the rule. The concept of the body of Christ is beautiful and appealing. Unfortunately something is required in order to prevent it becoming a social club. Paul was operating in a different environment than we are today and consequently different conditions for trust. There is still the human impetus toward love, and we'd like to bring righteousness along with it. How much is holiness in our thoughts? With god all things are possible.

I understand you, i had a run in with a Christian cult and almost lost faith.. But.. Don't remember people go to church not because they are good people, but because they are sinners, and want to be saved, want to be closer to God and Jesus and truth... Thank you for this teaching. I’m a licensed therapist working in a faith based practice. I love it because our therapist are all willing to work through our issues together and are very supportive of each other to work through things! We want to be as healthy as possible for our clients. I have to say that approximately 80% of my clientele are Christians that have traumatic backgrounds that have left them with toxic thinking and the church has done more damage than good to them in all the ways Dr. Leaf mentioned and more. I love that she has given the actual science of the mind & brain being separate and how we can get our minds to think appropriately it will change how our brain responds!

Now there you go!!! Great post. Christians are some of the most messed-up people walking the planet, and the one place that actually is supposed to help them, makes them twice as fit for hell . . didn't Jesus say something about that 2000 years ago, to the . . . Religious leaders of the day!

Lu Smith I'm a minister of God but I have been suffering from depression over the years but I have always thought that I could use just the world of God to heal but seriously it has only gotten worse because religion makes you believe that it's maybe because of sin or some spiritual attack that caused these things forgetting the medical side so I think the teaching has changed my perspective on the issue and I also need your advice because it's taking a toll on every aspect of my life. Thanks

Just recently begun watching Elevation church . . watched the conversation with Pastor John Grey and Steve . . KUDOS! These issues MUST be brought to Light, MUST be spoken about, they are God issues and I loved the forum and honesty! Also, loved this conversation with Dr. Caroline Leaf! Did a 4 yr psych degree a few years ago and had to laugh whenever I heard students or professors make distinctions between science and God, when in truth God IS science, God IS math, God IS art, metaphysics etc . . the universe, our galaxy, our bodies and our minds all work on the intricate, balanced and logical, though miraculous systems GOD has created them to. I swear, the more I understand, the more I love Him and am in absolute awe of (lets say) Him ~ Blessings

exactly 8 minutes in and Dr. Caroline Leaf has already got me commenting! I totally agree with her. I am a believer and I absolutely despise Christian jargon. when I first read be transformed by the renewing of your mind. I immediately started to learn as much as I can on neuro science that I could without going to college. my thought is if I am to renew my mind then I need to know how it works. at least on a basic level a laymen's level. Oh how I have love this series. the crazy thing is my pastor is preaching a series on life. and the two series compliment each other so well its mind blowing!

Steven, you are a huge light in our world. Thank you so much for this. I went on a journey to find God face to face a few years back. I was raised in the church ; one day felt empty and left. Got beyond just feeling God and was completely restructured mind wise ; exfoliated a boulder of anxiety and am now more alive and stronger than I ever believed I could ever be. God is so much more than Ive ever cinceptualized. He is within me , around me, and apart of me. This world needs this message more than ever. I too will carry this light. Best-

You haven't really look. This was taught in the last century and even earlier but religious authorities resisted them. This knowledge (she is giving very little here, very wisely) has been around always but mostly underground. Science is only catching up with God and now we discovering all this but people with spiritual insight knew this minus the modern scientific language. The Buddha, 600 years before Jesus (!) precisely taught on this but others too a few thousand years before that. Do your research and see how great and infinite our God is. He is greater and better than we were told by ironous religious dogmas.

Pastor Steven Furtick offers the church the opportunity to live vulnerable. Although pastors have to choose their confidants carefully, from this interview it appears that being able to evaluate our own thinking is the answer to thriving spiritually. As a man thinkers in his heart, so is he; takes on a whole new meaning.

Ten years ago I had the wonderful opportunity to attend one of Dr Leaf’s three day seminars. I’m not a “smarty” by any stretch of the imagination, but how she explained and demonstrated complex neuroscience had a huge impact on me. What I learned helped me process extremely difficult life events a couple years later. Where normally someone would spend years in counseling, I was spared having used her methods, along with a lot of faith. I am living a very positive and healthy life. I recommend her book, “Who Switched Off My Brain.” And for couples, “Who Switched Off Your Brain.” Thank you, Pastor Furtick, for doing this special service with Dr. Leaf. You are both big blessings!

Religion teaches us to deny reality and if we deny this we increase toxic decisions. When you speak about it, it's in the light and you can deal with it.!! I learnt a lot from this. Praise God. That's why indeed in the midst of reality God is there to hold your hand so that you accept reality whilst believing that things will be okay. You'll be able to deal with it and overcome toxic behaviour.

I honestly took a few notes! Dr. Caroline Leaf is so knowledgeable! And thank you Pastor Furtick for the triggered series. What a lot of this world doesn't understand is that every single one of us is lost, and we constantly think toxic thoughts everyday... and with people going to therapy and getting misdiagnosed with mental illnesses, it's honestly just spiritual warfare that we are all going through... that's the real diagnoses. I just wish the whole world could sit down and watch this.

Dear Pastor Steven, Please keep doing what you are doing. I mean, when it's right for you - to be open. You are allowing God to speak. He doesn't just speak through your sermon notes - He speaks through your humility to share your truth, which as we know, makes room for God - WHEN I am weak, He is strong. I can.. relate.. to everything you have said. What a gift that THIS is the picture of "a pastor". I have not just information about God, but a revelation of God through my own human experience - and you are validating my human experience, and therefore making God more of God to help me, and making me LESS God - "I'm supposed to think this.. I shouldn't have thought this.. " I feel God's direction in those dark places as only love.. I feel God's love so much more without my voice trying to speak over my problem.. instead of just being aware of it - which enables me to HAND it to Him - taking every thought captive TO HIM. I know it was so hard for you to share on a public platform... thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I am not scared OF freaking out anymore, or trying to avoid it - awareness - I know it is a safe place, and God welcomes me - we are not alone, in the body of Christ together, or just us with out thoughts. Amen!!!

First I just want to thank you both for having this conversation. In many ways Steven Furtick asked questions that many of us have but find it difficult to speak or say out out loud..for all the various reasons ,some of which were stated. This is among the best use of 49 minutes I've spent on KZbin. Dr.Leaf connected the Spiritual and Physical realms of Brain/Mind with scripture, leaving Us with a deeper sense of how to approach how we decide who we are in relation to everyone and everything. Also The reference to Jesus' Prayer at Getsemane made the connection for me. (The Jesus Model). She is able to articulate with precision. A Wise and Powerful conversation. Thank You very much.
