I agree, as the David Sarif ending makes the most sense chronologically. The Hugh Darrow ending is the "good" ending, because you reveal the truth. The Bill Taggart ending seems like the most logically backwards ending, due to the fact it benefits the Illuminati, and goes against everything you've stood for in the game. I'm still kinda unsure about the Self-Destruct ending though.

Kyris Xian'drii I agree. I also agree with @Dolan Cleary's "the David Sarif ending makes the most sense chronologically." In Deus Ex: Invisible War, I chose the Singularity ending, capping the trilogy nicely.

+Dolan Cleary I almost sided with Taggert, and I say that as a strong humanist and transhumanist. I do think that whatever regulations would be put in place would be too restrictive, but he's right on one thing. Absolute freedom is indistinguishable from absolute chaos. Society does need regulation and boundaries, and those boundaries need to be enforced. As much as I disagree with many of the forms that control has taken, won't there always be a 'ruling elite' of some kind? Even if we were to get all idealistic and rise up and destroy the Illuminati, wouldn't something else bubble up to the top and take it's place? I just don't think control and regulation and a ruling elite class are things we can ever really break free from, and I'm not even sure we should try to, at least not in this age. We do need limits and order, in some form. Still, I side with Sarif at the end of the day. We can wax philosophical all day about the need for control in society, but we're still going to steal fire from the Gods one day.

@@SabbyNeko The problem is, with THIS Illuminati, they messed up. They showed their hand, got too involved, got too exposed, and openly hurt people as a result. Sure, there will always be another to pop up, but maybe this one ran its course. It proved too ruthless, too reckless with its people, that, realistically, a fresh start where something better rises from the ashes and mistakes of this one, to a better regulator. That maybe, just maybe, they won't have to hurt as many people, be a little more humane in their future endeavors, otherwise, just like the last one, someone will rise against it and take it down at a critical moment in history, or maybe just vastly disrupt it.

Once I made it to the end, this was my choice without hesitation... And here's why: Darrow had good intentions and he had good points about how dangerous augs could be, but in order to do that he had to actually be the catalyst, kill and cripple thousands of people just to make a point, I couldn't side with someone behind such actions Taggart had a more balanced idea... Regulating augs to prevent things from getting out of hand, but to do that... He ended up creating a culture of discrimination against augmented people, and even a terrorist group that would kill people just for supporting augs, that's something I can't support either, not when it involves such nasty actions Sarif at the end of the day was genuenely looking to give people the chance to become better, for those with augs to not suffer rejection syndrome again, for anyone to be able to become augmented and achieve what their own limitations couldn't do, sure it's also open to some abuse, but in a world where everyone can become augmented, there was always the chance that people would want to balance it, prevent it from getting out of hand and without the need to spill any blood

Good Argument, but a Cripple is different from being born a Cripple... Augmentation should be taken to a Limit... but Humanity doesn't know when to stop, so we will Live in that Reality once... and make the same mistakes so that we can learn our lesson... Humanity is Stubbern, we can only learn from mistakes.

Sir Tobias I know I am reviving an old comment, but still. Why should there be a limit to augmentation? We can become truly great, if there is nothing to deter us
@NorthForkFisherman
@NorthForkFisherman 9 жыл бұрын
Karl Meisner The sad thing is, no matter what we add to our physical bodies, we're still human. With drives that are not always altruistic. While I applaud the Sarif ending I also understand human nature. When he had the opportunity he took away more of Adam's flesh and made him machine. Why did he not give Adam that choice? Because he had power and opportunity. I despise Taggart, but he's also right. Power without control, without direction leads to chaos and destruction. The one ending I've never chosen in the game was the suicide one. I can't see Adam killing everyone in Pancheae. And I think he would know that as a human, being what he'd been through, he'd have a better vantage point in which to make and informed decision about to tell the world.
@karlmeisner99
@karlmeisner99 9 жыл бұрын
NorthForkFisherman We will always be human yes, but we don't always have to be illogical. If machines can be entirely logical due to their immense intelligence, why not humans? It is true that power without control leads to chaos, although why should Sarif dictate augmentation? In the ending Adam mentions the singularity, the thought of machines becoming intelligent enough to improve upon themselves. The way I see it, augmentation is merely a stepping stone on the road to a fully robotic humanity. And robots are logical, more so than Sarif, because in the end, he is still only human
@NorthForkFisherman
@NorthForkFisherman 9 жыл бұрын
Karl Meisner Ah, but isn't our irrationality, our mortality part and parcel of what makes us human? If we forgo that, we won't be human any more. We'll be something else. I think that it's our strivings and failings that make us the best of what we are. We need to be fallible, because if we are no longer able to fall, how will we know the joy of being able to rise again? Maybe when we do give birth to AI we'll need to make it able to fall, give it something to overcome. It's just my thoughts on the whole thing.

This ending reflects entirely my thoughts on the future of the human race. I acknowledge that many will suffer at the expense of technological progress, but I just cannot deny the potential that we have. Genetic modification and biotechology offer us a possibility never thought possible. Immortality. With such capability, where does it end? With infinite time and space, will we finally unlock the secrets of the universe? The nature of reality? Answers of which I would sacrifice so much to learn, only solidifying me as human. What a fucking crazy thing it is to be alive, especially right now. Science will either be the end or the beginning of something we cannot even begin to imagine.

@@SilchiiWell Darrow's ending, as stated by the AI, would hinder scientific progress. The AI said that his message would cause humanity to abandon science. So Darrow's ending seems to be the worst if you support scientific progress. Even the Illuminati ending is better, because progress is restricted but at least it exists.

We as a species have gotten to the top of the food chain because of our ingenuity. With trial and error, tools and cleverness, we essentially have tamed and/or classified most of the other species on our planet. We got this far because of our tools to give us the edge against flora, fauna, and mother nature in general. We strive to master our surroundings. As the video said, we were cold, so we harnessed fire. We were weak, so we invented tools. The infrastructure, the network of communication, our cities, our means of transportation and manufacturing... A mere hundred years ago, people couldn't have fathomed what we have today, and who knows what we could achieve in the next hundred years. This is the most human ending when you put thought to it. We will always strive, but we can't strive without our tools. And yes, there will be casualties. But that's how we got to where we are today. Trial and error. Trial and error to see what we could eat and what was poisonous from the edible objects around us. Just the most basic of gathering so our ancestors could partially fill their bellies. Trial and error to figure out how our ancestors could survive another day against animals who were better killing machines. No. It's who we are. To deny it is inhuman.

*SPOILERS* Beleive it or not, Deus Ex Human Revolution's ending tells us what we really think about mankind's nature. Whichever ending we choose, reflects us who we think about mankind. Choosing Darrow's Ending depicts that we dont think mankind will ever change, Sarif's Ending Gives mankind a chance. Self Destruct ending Makes the world continue as it's still going. As far as i think, Self Destruct and Sarif's ending are'nt much different. All ending's are very appealing. Its a nice game with good message. Well done Eidos.

Sarif was in my opinion well written. Sure he may not be the most honest man, but there is no doubt he has the best of intentions. He truly believes what he does is the best for mankind. But this alone isn't what makes Sarif well written, but rather the contrast between his intentions and his unwillingness to listen to any other viewpoint. He will not understand why someone rejects his ideas, why someone opposes what he views as "progress". His good intentions combined with his narrow-mindedness make him a deeper character.

+shrillpsicho I thought about that as well, but Self Destruct just comes across as cowardly to me. The Jeanie is out of the bottle. Change is happening and nothing can be done to stop it, only shape it. Standing aside and 'letting the world choose for itself' is just a noble sounding way of backing down from something with big and scary implications. Granted, I don't think you or I (or many for that matter) have the maturity, wisdom and foresight to make a good call on something this big, but I at least would admit that and step down with honesty, rather than pretend your doing something noble, like a father figure for mankind.

This is why I love Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Because Adam Jensen and Madoka are just...so similar. Both have immense power, immense responsibility, have faced many past sorrows and grief and in this ending Adam, like Madoka, mentioned that he himself rejected temptation to abuse this power to take shortcuts. He has responsibility, so does Madoka. My fave anime of 2012, and my one of my fave game of 2011 till now. What more could I argue about?

I thought this was probably the most inspiring ending of the game. I find with all three of Deus Ex games endings there's usually at least two convincing endings and one or two really stupid/backward ones. The Illuminati usually have a point, but they're solution is usually only a quick fix and won't solve anything on the long run. In the end, the only way to create change for the better is to pick the road of progress. That's why I picked the Sarif ending for this game and the Helios ending for the first two. The way to push the ball forward is to change the playing field and create a new game entirely. Augmentation and human evolution is the only way to do that.

There are Seven FUNDAMENTAL TENETS of Non Theistic Satanism The Satanic Temple: thesatanictemple.com/pages/about-us I One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason. II The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions. III One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone. IV The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own. V Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs. VI People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused. VII Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word. Atheistic naturalist religion, Aue discord.gg/gvSHZ7Ru aue4joy.github.io/ point_right Aue is a naturalist religion with faith, doctrine, and practise. It asks for faith in society, and that the practice of evaluating joy & woe in society is beneficial. It considers us as a modern species dependant on one another. scales A joy/woe dichotomy is the lens used to guide adherents. Aue strives for the peace and community of religion without supernatural dogma. It should be a concise base which, after deliberation, is timeless and agreeable. It should help to ground an adherent in naturalism and understand themselves and their relationship with others. aue It is authored by Patrick Bowen since Sept 2020, and is still open doctrine subject to minor change. Transhumanism is a philosophy and a worldview which advocates for the ethical use of technology and evidence-based science to improve the human condition and alleviate suffering. -Natasha Vita More. “Transhumanism” is the idea that humans should transcend their current natural state and limitations through the use of technology - that we should embrace self-directed human evolution. @KyleAlex92 That would be the Bill Taggart ending, this is the ending where Corporations are given free reign, this is my argument. "In the past, we had to compensate, to find quick solutions that only benefit a few... but what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again?" "No doubt the road to get there will be bumpy, but won't achieving the dream be worth it? We can become the gods we've always been striving to be..." People will always argue, do not let them stop Salvation.

For a game where you basically have to choose whether to trust luddites, illumaniti, corporations, or suicide, these are some pretty good endings.

I believe this is the cannon ending. I know in the post credits Bob said if there were usable tech in the wreckage. But remember he never said pancheae he could be referring when Jensen told the three scientist to blow up there research labs. and there was alot of tech built there as well.

There needs to be a government that would pursue corporations that defraud their customers. For example, implanting faulty augments or fucking up the actual implementation procedure. For everything else, market competition will be there to take care of it.

But the rich poor gap doesn't matter if the base quality of life is always rising. Not many people can afford a rolls Royce today but most people today can afford cars that are vastly superior to even the highest quality luxury cars of the 1970s. As long as the technology keeps getting better it doesn't matter if the gap widens because the average quality of life will go up anyways because price performance keeps getting better.

@AScann3rDarkly In summary, most of the important groundwork for the history of Deus Ex 1 are not really changed by Jensen's actions. Bigotry against "hanzers" is likely to remain regardless of what ending occurs. It doesn't matter whether or not Sarif wins a temporal political victory that allows him to do the work or not, since there's always the possibility of his work being outsourced to countries like China or secret Illuminati labs.

@DvineGaming Ironically, that baby creeped me out when I saw it; apart from that, I love this ending. What people need to realize is that it is NOT technology that is responsible for humanity's suffering; it is our own flaws (greed, intolerance, ect). Mankind has been fighting and killing each other since we arrived on this planet, from sticks and stones, to bows and arrows, to biological warfare, long before advanced tech came onto the scene.
