@BritGirlJayАй бұрын
You get an image in your head and it's hard to shake - at first. People have to be open to changing the mental image though. The houses I've wanted in my mind don't exist unless I can build it -which isn't an option for most people. I always wanted a big kitchen, never got one, ditto an entrance hall. Our budget just wasn't enough to get location, size AND interiors. All the houses I got over the years have been 'good enough' (alas for all of them an extension wasn't possible so no point thinking about that as an option) and good enough works well. The people in this episode aren't looking for good enough though - they are looking for a property spec they can't afford and refusing to realize that.

I want a bungalow with an elegant staircase, 8 en suite bedrooms, four reception rooms and a loft I can convert to an office. It should have off-street, underground parking in beneath the house. As for location, I want a city buzz with plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants, clubs and a few theatres, either edge of village or a rural location. I love a thatched cottage in Georgian style with huge windows and high ceilings. I want a low-maintenance garden with plenty of established fruit trees, a vegetable plot and room for my pet cow to graze. I'd like to start a business, so I need outbuildings where I can set up my forge - I'll be hammering out personalized hubcaps for luxury cars. Ideally, we'll be very close to schools, parks and a golf course within walking distance. A view of the sea from every window is non-negotiable. I can pay up to 100,000 pounds. And I expect you to find it.

Oh and my mom is getting on so therefore she needs her own space. We need an annex with two bedrooms so he sister can come and stay, separate lounge with log burner in an inglenook fireplace, eat in kitchen with a large range cooler so she can bake for everyone at her church and space for a sofa to sit down with asofaShe needs a separate, southern facing private garden, for vegetables. Must have a view to area of-outstanding natural beauty from a brick conservatory. Oh yeah large, accessible bathroom with double shower and separate roll top tub under a skylight. Separate parking and doesn’t want to walk straight into a room so a porch with entrance foyer and hallway. Separate utility room and loo with shower for the dogs. Separate garage, shed with power, chicken coop, and greenhouse. Bifold doors and patio open ing straight out into the garden from the kitchen. Must be full of character but have modern updates but still look from a magazine. Tons of storage, walk in pantry and separate dressing room and ensuite. She’s passionate about the environment and needs solar panels, underfloor heated floors and eco friendly materials for everything. She sold her studio apartment in the Outer Hebrides and has 35 000 pounds to add to the budget. 😅 I’m not sure what world they think they are living in. How is it being so clueless and uninformed when they usually say something like that they have been looking for 18 months and can’t find anything that “works for their family”! It’s ludicrous. Like Mickey Flannigan says, “ I’m thick as shit and I don’t know how to shop”(for a property)! Lmfao!😂

The end of terrace that had no dining area to speak of could’ve probably been reconfigured given that there was a pretty large utility room or back kitchen, and they could’ve considered taking down the wall dividing the kitchen from that table. It definitely had the garden they were looking for. I think Phil said the end of Terrace was larger than the next house he showed them, which was mid-terrace. Happily, they went back to the bungalow .

They were nuts to dismiss that first place! I wouldn't like to live on a busy road if the house didn't essentially face backwards, as that one did. As it was, there was nothing on the terrace side but quiet space and spectacular views. Oh, and whereas most houses with great views have sloping gardens, the one there (below the terrace) was admirably flat - perfect for the son to kick a ball around on. PLUS there was a garage AND a room that could be used, with one modification, as a treatment room with its own separate entrance.

The bungalow for Phil's couple was all right, livable but bland, featureless, blah. I could not have lived with the common access for house #2 either. As for house #3, I'm not sure it was actually smaller than the boring bungalow. It certainly was much more attractive, and the garden was waaaay better than at any of the other three properties. The fourth property was lovely, lovely, lovely. Nicer than the other houses by a country mile - though smaller than the house Margaret rejected because it was "too small". Hm... That hedge was too much, but something could have been done about it. But their money, their choice.

Nobody would want to live on a strip of land between two motorways, but that first house - so close to family, offering spectacular views, and with a room that with just a slight modification could be used as a treatment room with its very own entrance - had nothing but peace and quiet at the back. Most of the living would have been done on that side. Crazy to dismiss that place, especially when they had such a limited budget.
