I found leg extensions are pretty bad for the knees in most cases. I never used them after discovering the same thing many years ago. They just seemed to irritate the knees, unless of course I used insanely light weight. I think it just depends on you and how you're built too, but with no hamstring activation the knee gets grinded during leg extensions quite a bit.

Juice some fresh ginger root. Make about four cups of ginger juice and mix that with fresh lime juice, and drink it undiluted(no water added) about quarter of a cup everyday and see if that helps with your knee pain. It's not pleasant tasting, but pretty good for join pain. If you like, here's my ginger lemon aid drink recipe. 1 or 2 cups raw ginger juice. 2 cups fresh lime juice or lemon juice. 1 cup brown sugar. Mix them all together and then add water....this makes 2 liters.
