I’m so grateful to have found this plant based lifestyle. To anyone thinking about trying it, start today, you won’t regret it! My skin, leaky gut, congestion and allergies were finally able to heal. I went vegetarian 19 years ago, still struggled with my health, then decided to be vegan 8 years ago this month. I spent a few years experimenting with different ways of eating veg to see what works best for my body. Eating whole food plant-exclusive, SOS free, low fat, high raw 75% +… dramatically improved the quality of my life. My energy and happiness, my physical, mental and emotional health, everything changed! Best decision I ever made for my health.

I love this channel and always learn so much from every episode I watch! Thanks for being such a wonderful resource for me and so many others on this wfpb journey. My husband and I have been completely plant based for the past 2.5 years and are absolutely loving the results we've received from changing over our diet, omitting animal products, and incorporation all wholesome plant based foods! I'm not sure where to drop this question, but I'd LOVE to hear Dr. Barnard talk about ways to treat Candida overgrowth while on a plant based whole foods diet! It's been so hard to find very much information about this subject-- and I'd be SO GRATEFUL to hear what he has to say! Thank you so much!!!

My Mom was Type 1 diabetic for 79 years, diagnosed in 1942 at age 10. She's my adopted Mom, not the woman who gave birth to me. She had a heart attack at age 81, then quadruple heart bypass surgery, then had to be on kidney dialysis for 20 hours per week for the last 9 years of her life. Although she lived to almost 90 years old, her quality of life in her older years could have been so much better had she just walked more, ate less processed/ less quick-and-easy foods, and been more strict with her diet.

I have a random question not associated with this video... but I am super curious and I have never seen you guys cover this. My husband and I went whole food plant based after his heart attack in 2020. One thing we have noticed since then (in addition to all the other benefits you guys do talk about) is the heels of our feet have become healthy and smoother and not dry or cracked / scaling anymore.... any idea why this would be the case?

The study abstract says nothing about limiting non-tropical oils or eating low-fat. If this is what the preponderance of evidence says, why do PCRM specifically recommend a low fat diet if the evidence isn’t there?
@amyvanmatre9409 Жыл бұрын
Intracellular lipids are known to be a cause of insulin resistance. Therefore, PCRM recommends low dietary fat to avoid higher levels of fat in the cells blocking insulin receptors.
@reason3581 Жыл бұрын
@@amyvanmatre9409 Yes but that doesn’t necessarily mean eating olive oil and nuts causes diabetes in metabolically healthy people. Diabetes seems to be caused by excess of calories over a long period of time which causes visceral fat buildup in and around the liver and pancreas. When diabetics lose weight to below their ”personal fat threshold” their diabetes is reversed. See clinical studies by Roy Taylor. Too much saturated fat and (added) fructose in the diet also seems to contribute to fatty liver but not unsaturated fats AFAIK.

What do you think about the man that is eating only McDonald's 1/2 portion meals 3 times a day for 100 days and he is losing weight and his blood test have improved? He is on Tik-Tok and had been on many of the big news stations. All the comments I'm reading people are all excited about this 😢 I think it is sending the wrong message. His wife is doing it for 60 days with the same results. I ask her about her digestive system and she said it's fine. Then I mentioned how I read so much about processed food and cancer and she doesn't think McDonald's food is processed 😮 I left it at that because people are going to believe what they want. They are not young people but I will say very likeable. I just feel bad for what people are doing to their health. I also wanted to mention McDonald's has no fiber. Maybe after the 100 days is over they will start a healthy plan.

@allee3476 Жыл бұрын
@@eagleeye9549 With all due respect, to me, based on my layman understanding, that indicates that you haven’t cured yourself of insulin resistance. The insulin receptors in your muscle and liver cells should be able to accept glucose from wholesome carbs unless they are gummed up by the intramyocellular lipids (fat droplets in your cells). Avoiding fats and consuming huge bowls of low glycemic soups and salads (so that fiber can keep you full) initially can help with eliminating the intramyocellular lipids to the point where you can regularly enjoy baked potatoes with salsa, or baked potatoes with vegetarian chili, etc without them spiking up your blood sugar level for a substantial amount of time.

I am not a doctor. I read that eating carbs only works to reduce blood glucose levels when you combine carbs with a very very low fat diet. You can do it, hard at first but well worth it. I think it takes a few weeks for results to be realized.
@dianeladico1769 Жыл бұрын
Does it go above recommended levels? Everyone's glucose goes up with carb consumption. Processed carbs eaten on their own cause rapid, high spikes. Unrefined carbs (whole grains) eaten with veg and legumes cause slower, more gentle increases. A high fat, animal protein diet will cause a larger spike for the same meal than someone who eats whole food plant based. Also, your activity level matters. If you get 30-60 minutes moderate exercise a day, your muscles are better able to take in glucose so you don't spike as much. Lastly, if you don't eat carbs as a rule you're going to spike more. It took time to become insulin resistant, it takes time to reverse it. Check out Nutrition Facts site and KZbin channel. The videos are short and targeted, easy to take in. Good luck and good health.

@@dianeladico1769 Spikes as high as 160 and my morning fasting glucose is around 115 to 130.
@dianeladico1769 Жыл бұрын
@@rjbenchs5399 OK, as distressing as it seems (T2D here, I know) the post meal spike isn't that bad. True, under 140 is best but if you are still diabetic then under 180 is OK (ish). The morning numbers are high. What is the rest of your diet? I'm being sincere. It was only after I made the switch to WFPB that I saw real improvement. My numbers are better now on just Metformin than when I was also taking glimepiride and insulin but eating animal products and not a lot of plants. Here are two suggestions: Do 60 minutes of exercise a day. I have one of those under the desk pedal things and it makes a big difference. The effect can last up to 16 hours to lower glucose levels. If I pedal, I'm in the 80s and meal spikes are short. If not, I average over 100 and it takes forever for my numbers to come down after a meal. Next, practice time restricted feeding. Eat your last bite at 6pm, no later if you can manage it. It works. When I eat early my morning numbers are in the 80s, if I eat late I'm at 115. Check out Nutrition Facts and search for chronobiology. There are also numerous resources on exercise lowering BG.

@andanssas Жыл бұрын
Oats, quinoa and pulses (beans, lentils, chickpeas) provide carbs through fermentation, increasing your blood sugar slowly over time. High and low spikes happen when refined sugar or very sweet foods are consumed.

Hummm. Hana is the author of a Vegetarian Diet book. I wonder if there were also writers or experts on the Mediterranean diet or the high fat low carb diet or intermittent fasting in her research committee. Her explanations of the results are too vague. Someone who is diabetic has to change his lifestyle for the rest of his life. That is a very difficult adjustment for many people. If there are other solutions that are also very effective, Hana should mention them. The patient can then choose which effective diet fits his new lifestyle. The boolet train may be the fastest, but that train may be unnecessarily heavy for an individual. In short, a patient simply wants to know which diets are very effective. This is not mentioned by Hana and that is a shame.😢
