*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

get her doctor to do a fasting no drinking copeptin (antidieurhetic hormone) blood test. if her hormones low or borderline partial central diebetes insiphidus result she should be referred to a endocronolgoist who speiclaises in diebetes insiphidus. if you are in australia you can serach for specialists who speicalise in pitulitary on hormones australia website. water deprivation test is gold standard test for diebetes inisiphidus, better than copeptin blood test, and will show what type of DI they have. children should have access to unlimtied water. but consider that drinking too much water can cause death / water drowning as it dilutes hormone in blood further and also lowers sodium dilutes sodium in blood to drink huge amounts of water. but dehydration caused by it can cause brain damage and kidney damage organ damage.ask your doctor or nurse to teach you how to do the skin pinch hydration test, and google signs of dehydration there are 12 symptoms and if severely dehydrated important to be on a drip in hospital

I have a diabetes insipidus since October 2014, The specialist said you can get it if you have brain tumor, brain damage, brain surgery or hereditary but I didn't have either of them. My Pituitary is gone half the size😬 I don't know what happened. I was normal and no health issues since birth. I only get like normal flu once in a year and thats it. The only thing I had for 6 years straight is the IMPLANON (contraceptive). The implant was removed in December 2014 since then my Period stopped almost 6 years next month and I'm only 39. My bones is at risk , my womb is thickening and high risk for endometriosis cancer. I had a scan in January 2020, found out I have PCOS too. In my conclusion this all happened because of the IMPLANT.

I completely agree I got my thyroid removed with radiation and I've had the symptoms I was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes recently but still have the symptoms of di even when blood sugar is in range I too agree that environmental factors are to blame like the radiation I had to destroy my thyroid it caused my type 1 diabetes and I think this. what test do I get ? did you have to go to like a urologist

My son has had this since he was 3 and is now 11. Before he was diagnosed he would drink anything he could get his hands on! He would get out of his bed in the middle of the night and resort to drinking the toilet water! Gross right. He was just that desperate. Constantly thirsty and constantly having to urinate. Tough times because we had zero clue as to what was going on. He was diagnosed with a water deprivation test and got things under control with Desmopressin.

Before I was discharged I was diagnosed with diabetes insipidus and they told me it would stop. That was June 18th. I called my endocrinologist to schedule a appointment since it’s still going plus I gained 40lbs within 2 months! I can’t even blame food because I have no appetite smh this stuff is terrible

primary polydipsia (also known as dipsogenic diabetes insiphidus) can also be caused by inflammation, mould toxins causing high or acute inflammation, good to check acute inflammation marker CRP as well as inflammation markers, and drinking too much water furhter dilutes the antidieuhertic hormone in blood further so good to gradually cut down but regularly check hydration bloods to show if you're hydrated or not. becuase if your osmo-thirst regulation is damaged from inflammation how thirsty you are will not show how dehydrated you are, in this type of diebetes insiphidus. also does the patient have any other health conditions that increase fluid retention needs to be considered e.g. functional neurological disorder, or cushings, and other illnesses that increase urinary fluid retention, or chronic inflammatory response syndrome a lot of fluids go to fighting inflammation, does the person have chronic diahhrea or chronic vomiting, goes to saunas, is homeless in summer heat, or any other factors dehydrating them should be considered.

WOW COOL< I Have diabetes insipidus , oncology dr says, after chemo, i have now " non existant pituitary gland", its gone, i was so thirsty all day and all nite, did many tests, saw endocrinolgist, its rare he said, but i'm to carry a water bottle in the car everywhere i go, i dehydrate faster than other people, This is caused by chemo he said, Now they took out the breast cancer, it reoccurred 6 yrs later, then they took out the ovaries, and last year I had bowel IBS, and then a tumour inside the kidney, The side effects, and on going battles with cancer, they said i wouldnt see 44, Im 55 in March, my kidney gives me severe pain it excretes estrogen , yet they only give me elson and cholesterol tablets, Breast cancer sucks, but finally I understand, In NZ doctors suck at explaining stuff, I am so glad someone knows more about it, still I dunno what actually causes it, my nails went Jet black the last week of chemo, doc says its trauma, so was it trauma that caused the diabetes insipidus. Thanks so much, dam covid has ceased many appointments, I feel as tho they have forgotten me. My only sibling , my year older sister has also just died of inflammatory Breast cancer , liver failure, I dont understand why she died and i remain at war with cancer, the pathway my doc says has happened but not at the speed they predicted. So what is the cure of diabetes insipidus? Can my pituitary gland regrow? Dam straight Cancer x 2 IBS, DI, Heart condition, I should be dead. But not...😘

If you have nephrogenic DI you won't necessarily see a high ADH amount, if they aren't severely dehydrated you would likely see normal values. When you do a dehydration test it must be done in a medical environment and it only requires 5% reduction in body weight (from fully hydrated) or a an elevated sodium level in blood whichever comes first which would depend highly on GFR (low gfr means retention of water and sodium). It usually only takes about 3 hrs or so to reach adequate dehydration at which point you could compare osmolality in the blood vs urine if diabetes insipidus has not been diagnosed. To differentiate Central from nephrogenic you could then administer desmopressin or if you have the ability to check the blood for ADH levels. After desmopressin is administered If they have central DI you will see a large increase in urine concentration. If they have Nephrogenic YOU WILL SEE AN INCREASE (unless the ADH level in the blood is already very high) just not as much as you should in someone without NDI and of course that all depends on how progressed the disease is. Remember it's not that NDI causes you to be unable to concentrate urine, it's that you can't concentrate it as well as you should be able to. NDI can be reversed if it is caught soon enough if not it could easily be permanent. You never should do anything as an outpatient if NDI is a possibility, it is considered a medical emergency and you could easily kill them if you do not understand what you are doing and why you are doing it and all of the variables that could affect the disease.

@tragisscott4 жыл бұрын
yes. 'insipidus' literally means tasteless in latin. I guess it is named that way to differentiate it from DM, in which the word 'mellitus' means sweet. hope this helps! (tho it's after a year haha)
@jholbrook36214 жыл бұрын
It got its name because "doctors" used to taste urine to checķ it..its was a real thing
@MA-qe6it3 жыл бұрын
In historic times, there was no way of knowing the cause of polyuria, so doctors used to taste urine. Mellitus means" honey" coz of the glycosuria. Insipidus means insipid, what which has no taste coz in DI urine will be really dilute n it'll taste probably like water.

why is it called diabetes if there's no hyperglycemia?
@Stray___5 жыл бұрын
Because the name diabetes (literally "syphon", in greek) refers only to the polyuria aspect of the disease. The second word refers to the urine itself, so it can be mellitus, which means "like honey" because of the hyperglicemia or insipidus which means "tasteless", because of the high volumes and low concentration. And yes, it's based on the taste because that's how they diagnosed diabetes before. Eww
