I'm 6 months in my keto journey, i lost 30 pounds and i never thought i could live without pastas...but I can. and I don't even think about it anymore. I eat to my satiety, everything taste great and it is simple. I'm finally free to think about something else then food. amazing. thank you for the information.

I don't miss pasta that much because it used to BLOAT me so horrendously. I didn't really realize it until I went without it for months and then ate a big pile of it one day.

This is a most excellent discussion on how to start reversing Type 2. I actually went through the very same steps prior to watching any keto videos. I can attest that it does work. I brought down my bG levels from almost 300 to now below 140 (the highest during the dawn effect).

Three weeks ago blood sugar was 170, today it was 107. With LCHF. One day it was 99! Just to clarify, we don't have medication.
@NonaK-mz8oy5 жыл бұрын
I could not understand the number "60" you have mentioned. Is it too low. We have had 101-107 in these three weeks as we have started the LCHF diet. One day was 99!! What a joy it is! After meal was 102. There is no much information online to understand so many things... We do not have a medical insurance but waiting for the visit in July. Praying fo rLord's healing! Thank you for so much clarity, Dr Cywes. Highly appreciated!

Could you post somewhere, what the numbers 120 mean? It is when we knew something was wrong with sugar level. Is 107 high? Is it T2D or pre-diabetes. I am not sure if I will trust the Doctor when we see them. Thank you!

I do not agree that artificial sweeteners can be used because they do not affect the blood sugar. It is very well established that artificial sweetness do affect the insulin response of the body. So it is true that artificial sweeteners do not rise blood sugar but they do rise insulin then the upshot is that after a quick while that person is going to feel the pangs of hunger due the the insulin action.
@LowCarbUSA4 жыл бұрын
Dr. Cywes and I agree that we have not seen any reputable data to show that at all. It is not well established, it is well believed by some people. I chatted with him and he says he is totally prepared to learn if he is presented with credible evidence.
@fabricosta94884 жыл бұрын
@@LowCarbUSA I admit that the data is very controversial but nonetheless there are studies that link artificial sweeteners to metabolic disfunction and altering the microbiome which leads to altered glucose homeostasis and are associated with increased caloric consumption and weight gain: link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11894-017-0602-9 This other one highlights that the disruption in the gut microbiota is recognized as an active contributor towards the development of obesity and insuline resistance which is a feature of artificial sweeteners. It has been shown that artificial sweeteners may disrupt the balance and the biodiversity of the gut microbiome hence causing metabolic disfunction and ultimately insulin resistance: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0031938416301640 P.S: not to mention that artificial sweeteners have been recognized as an excitotoxins by stimulating glutamate receptors in the brain.

Hi Fabri Normally I ignore negative comments as the work of trolls, but you seem genuinely concerned about this as a result of pervasive misinformation so I will attempt to address your concerns. I did make of point of specifying ‘credible’ research. If you take a look at your first reference, it states at one point: “data in both animal models and humans ‘suggest’ that the effects of artificial sweeteners ‘may’ contribute to metabolic syndrome and the obesity epidemic” In the summary, again, words like ‘seems’ and ‘suggests’ are used. It’s reports like this that make things so hard for serious scientists. This is totally an associational study that shows zero causality and if I had access to the full report, I can assure you that I could point out countless flaws and biases in their methods and their reasoning. While associations like this might warrant the proposal of a randomised clinical control trial to prove the hypothesis, until such a trial shows causality it is irresponsible (and often corrupt) of people to suggest that it is a well-established fact. The only data I have are a number of people I know who have tested themselves and actually measured their insulin after taking various artificial sweeteners and the ones I know saw no change. If we did a massive control trial, I can’t say for sure that we would not find a few outliers who did show an insulin response but I believe that all those cases, if there were any, would be explained by other underlying conditions. I know of one person who did some test measuring her glucose response and she did see a rise in blood glucose with some of them. But the amounts ingested for each test were not consistent. Stevia, for instance is more than 200 times sweeter than sugar so in order to compare it to the effect of 2 teaspoons of sugar you would need a few drops, not 2 teaspoons of stevia. Also, she suffers from Reactive Hypoglycaemia which she keeps under control via a keto diet, so her glucose responses are not those of the average person. Very useful for her to understand her own responses, but no real value for the rest of us. The second reference is a mouse study. Mice are not humans, but studies like this may be used to show the need for a real human control trial. However, in this case, they don’t even do that. First of all, I don’t have access to the full text so I don’t know what else the mouse was eating and drinking other than the sweetener, maybe it’s something else in the chow that is causing the so-called disruption. It saddens me to see how many trials are blatantly biased in their design to secure a desired outcome. Secondly, in my opinion, all they are showing is that if you transfer microbiota from one mouse to another, the gut in the second mouse behaves in the same way, which makes sense if you think about it logically. Even if the sweeteners really did cause some sort of disruption, the subjects are mice and human trials would be needed to show (or not) similar responses in humans. Finally, Insulin Resistance is a very complex thing and the Impaired Glucose Tolerance test is an archaic and very inaccurate test of IR. In order to accurately identify IR you need to assimilate the test results of C Peptide, Insulin, Triglycerides, HbA1c and Fasting Blood Glucose to determine if a person is truly Insulin Resistant. AND you need to do a Randomised Control Trial with thousands of human participants and process all this data before a cause for anything can be claimed (or not). Gary Taubes has a great chapter in his book ‘The case Against Sugar’ where he exposes the real source of all the scaremongering around artificial sweeteners. If you dig deep enough into most (if not all) reports trashing these sweeteners, you’ll find ties to the sugar industry. If you test yourself and find you do have a response to these sweeteners (or you just personally believe it) then, by all means, refrain from using them but please don’t preach to everyone else that this is gospel, because it is not and you may harm many others out there who find that using artificial sweeteners is the only tool they have to be able to sustain a ketogenic diet to maintain their health or reverse the metabolic condition(s) they may be suffering from. Dr. Cywes and Dr. Eric Westman are two docs I know who are in the trenches every day and have helped many, many thousands of patients between them over the last 20 years and they both encourage the use of artificial sweeteners as a tool to maintain adherence to the diet, if that is needed.
