I am amazed that, apparently, they just dump gravel on top of the new track to fill in the void beneath the track. Presumably as the gravel gets compressed some of the excess on top trickles down to fill in any new gaps - but surely the track must deflect downwards a lot the first couple of times that a train goes over the new track?
@zak-a-roo2644 жыл бұрын
I believe that track machine at 10 min or so "tucks" the gravel under the tracks and ties, seen it on other vids.

How was 11:36 the first train over the new? Were the other two or three somehow still on the old?
@plaws06 жыл бұрын
It was like the 5th! What was odd (to me, someone who knows nothing) is that all the meticulous measurement was being done on the far track and it was almost as if they'd done nothing on the near track ... which was where those other four trains went by!
@xray6066 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have to be perfect to run slow. I'm sure they did the other side after that. Then they'll come back and re tamp a day or so later, after it settles.
