Yes, the moment you've all been waiting for! Fascinating in real time, but more even memorizing in time-lapse. Amazed at the speed at which this crew worked, great job! Less than 6 hours before the first train runs....

Amazing you can still see all the coal underneath the ballast from the derailment that happened back in the early 2000's.

I don't understand why they would ever have to replace it. I was always given to believe that Diamonds are Forever.

Not really. I recently found out that they can be totally dissolved into their carbon gas state with the right chemical treatment

Unfortunately, even diamonds (railroad crossovers) have to be replaced at some point in life.

They assembled the diamond off to the right just out of frame before it was installed.

Was just at Deshler this weekend, the new diamonds are of the flange bearing type in both directions. That means that the trains make little to no noise going across the diamonds in either direction.

I'm sittin here watching and I think to myself, "Man, good thing they shut down the tracks, wouldn't that be nuts if a train just came barreling down the tracks?!" Well, about 30 seconds later, it did. And not an eye-lash was batted. Amazing.

I think they meant over the new completed diamond. Those 4 trains went over it as work was still being done.

How was 11:36 the first train over the new? Were the other two or three somehow still on the old?

It was like the 5th! What was odd (to me, someone who knows nothing) is that all the meticulous measurement was being done on the far track and it was almost as if they'd done nothing on the near track ... which was where those other four trains went by!

It doesn't have to be perfect to run slow. I'm sure they did the other side after that. Then they'll come back and re tamp a day or so later, after it settles.

Matthew Smith- The first train was Q010 at 8:07 and the one you are speaking of at 12:08 is Q166.

SE Rail Productions Q010 was the first train across at 12:08 EST not 12:08 in the playback of the video. Q166 was across the diamond at 13:53 EST not 13:53 playback time. Your talking about time in the video, I am talking actual time. There is a time date stamp right at the top of the video.

The CP Rail was the first train over the diamond? What about the 2 CSX trains or the UP and BNSF that crossed it BEFORE the CP?

Watched the assembly of the new diamond 8 month earlier, in the snow + the positioning on Sunday. Trains are much quieter running over the new diamond.

I live near Deshler, and they've been doing a lot of DOT work this summer. Especially on major roads and highways.

As a volunteer fireman,the only thing that would have made this better would have been the firetrucks come out of the firehouse enroute to a fire. Thanks VR,great video.

Wrong about the first train. At 8:06, at CSX intermodal came through when the workers are at work. You watch out for train before the CP intermodal.

I am not sure hown you figure the CP train as the first train over the new diamond. There were 4 trains that went over it prior to them.

Chef Javier its also a "flange bearing" diamond; means that the wheels ride on the flanges though the diamond when passing, giving it a longer lifespan.

It does. Its a quiet diamond where you dont hear the poundings. Greenwich ohio was replaced last year with a flange bearing diamond and its quiet. Over time the wheels will wear through the groove and you will start to hear the poundings starting to sound after a year or two.

If you look on Google Maps (mobile app) you can see the section of track placed off to the right before installation just waiting there. Kinda neat.
