I landscaped for a few summers and we would go through a number of those diamond blades. Once they cracked, or started cutting slowly they were finished. I bet there were thousands of diamonds left. I think I recall the blades being something like $400-500 for a 13" blade and maybe $700-800 for the 18" blade and they were literally thrown out when they were finished. If you went up to a construction crew or landscaping crew asking for some broken blades I bet you could harvest a ton of diamonds and find a use for them. Maybe make another home made ring with small diamonds embedded in it. Just give it a little sparkle. That would be really cool.
@brokenhalo226 жыл бұрын
Those blades are actually very cheap. You can buy a 14" diamond blade at your local orange box for ~$100. They are industrial diamonds, so really not worth much.
@TheAceTroubleshooter6 жыл бұрын
Also synthetic diamonds.. Which are worth even less
@daa34175 жыл бұрын
Cite.htsea No it’s jewelry grade diamonds that are worthless yet highly priced where the industrial diamonds are extremely useful and important to modern society/engineering but are relatively (compared to jewelry grade) valueless. It’s a complete inversion of logic and common sense, especially when you consider the amount of suffering caused by the jewelry diamond trade and the debeers family business.
@demoniack812 жыл бұрын
@@daa3417 And also there are A LOT of other gemstones that are actually much more interesting and visually striking than diamonds. Diamonds are downright boring when compared to opal, certain jades, moss agate, etc. The fact people go so crazy over them is a testament to the power of marketing. The De Beers somehow managed to brainwash almost the entirety of mankind into believing that this _one_ fairly mundane gemstone is _the_ way to profess your love to someone. That is incredible.

Hi folks, here's a quick PSA, *earth diamonds are a scam* While yes, diamonds are rare (as in clear large gems you'd use on a ring) the price is driven up significantly due to the relative monopoly on diamonds. Get fake diamond, cant tell the difference from the naked eye, save yourself a few thousand, and you'll have one unhappy lady when she goes to sell the ring if the marriage goes south!
@local.gay.writer2 жыл бұрын
They aren't rare, just one company decided to buy most of them, making them go up in price due to less being available for other use!
@Trollogrefey Жыл бұрын
@@local.gay.writer they're not rare relative to other gemstones perhaps but clear gemstone quality diamonds are still rare. There is a kernel of truth that there is the aspect of artificial scarcity with diamonds with a few large companies having a near monopoly on their sale this does not mean that they're worthless or common. It's not like quartz lol. Also after (iirc) 2008 we passed the peak of diamond mining so since then fewer and fewer diamonds get mined per year so artificial scarcity will eventually become real scarcity.
@gerardvanwilgen9917 Жыл бұрын
@@Trollogrefey "so artificial scarcity will eventually become real scarcity." Well, scarcity of natural diamonds maybe, but only fools with too much money would prefer those over artificial (and perfect) diamonds.
@Trollogrefey Жыл бұрын
@@gerardvanwilgen9917 Not really, if you can just make a billion of something then it has very little value as the more you make of something the less value the individual product has. In essence the natural diamonds will always be more desirable than manmade since there is no value to be had in an indefinitely manufacturable product whose main value comes from its scarcity.

Hey Cody haven't watched your videos for a while but I've become hooked again lately. The newer ones are much improved, not that the older ones were bad. Doing a great job. Somehow I missed this one previously. I have previously been involved with the search for microdiamonds back in the hollers of Carolina. Learned a bit along the way. It turns out that panning for microdiamonds is not terribly efficient at finding them because the panning operation depends on more than specific gravity but also size, shape, surface tension etc. Most common silicate rocks have specific gravities of about 2.5 - 2.8 while diamond is about 3.5, gold though is about 19. The way we did it is to pan the samples conservatively then add the sediments to sodium hydroxide (dry) and place in a furnace at 500°C for 24 hours. That will digest just about everything but the diamonds leaving a puck of sodium silicate which can be dissolved in water. This is the way mineral exploration companies do it.

Nice! for sure that is diamond! You are right the diamonds don't wear out, the bonding metals wears out and lets go of the diamond first. Same goes for cubic boron (CBN). Warning do not make the GF an engagement ring from diamonds you salvaged from the road side! No matter how 'cool' they are there is something that De Beers has programmed into women that makes them want a 'real' one. Note... I'm not married. Real diamonds be damned.
@MichealStroub8 жыл бұрын
in my adventures i have been told by many wise men that to catch diamonds in any prospecting operation the use of a grease tray is a must the diamonds will stick to it under flowing water where the rest will wash off the grease. maybe a trest you can do too confirm this method. love the videos keep them coming
@txtmad7 жыл бұрын
I was a concrete cutter for 14 years and never once thought, where did the diamonds go haha. the simple answer is who cares, until now. A saw blade has approximately 20 tooth segments costing around $10NZD each, and each segment contains between 200 to 300 hundred diamonds, hence why nobody tries to cover them. The mud/dust is called slurry and has a ph of around 12.5 and once dry the dust should not be inhaled due to the silica, which with long-term exposure can lead to siliceous. This is a great video and if I was still cutting I would also try and recover some diamonds just for the fun factor.

+Pyrohawk I am not saying he is not smart but really this is nothing that great. The diamonds he got from it are just about worth nothing. maybe like .000001 or less of a cent worth of diamonds as theses are man made for the reason of making diamond blades. ***** It's hard to trust these days. Our rights are taken a piece at a time on behalf of our "well being" and "security". The governments from last decades are being puppets not only to UN but to lobbyists and corporations and Banks, I am Brazilian and the last man which spoke against those things died from a very suspicious cancer and the last USA's president to talk against them was John F. Kennedy and even Eisenhower warned the world about giving them power... Today, many right or left, liberals, conservatives, if not all, are on the same side... And I care because the world cannot allow some organization to own their lives in order to have freedom, and to assure their rights are respected, also because USA's policies affects the whole planet!

+wrt 142 "Synthetic" = artificial (when referring to metals and or other artificial materials" so your comment, sir, could've just been a yes.

1019wc1019 ... so, artificial diamonds
@1019wc10198 жыл бұрын
Artificial usually implies a different material is being used. Artificial diamonds are cubic zirconium or glass diamonds. Industrial ones are chemically the same as true diamonds, and are cheaper to produce small ones like that. They have less flaws than natural ones.

Cutting expansion joints after pouring concrete has been deemed financially more efficient than form pouring them, as was commonly done in the past. Green concrete cuts pretty easily. You could probably go sweep up after cutting expansions in parking garages, buildings, etc. If I were running the job, so long as you had the right boots, eye protection, and a hard hat, I usually don't care.
