Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) interviews author, columnist, political commentator and former presidential consultant Dick Morris. Dick famously operated as a friend and advisor to President Bill Clinton back in the 1990s but then switched teams and became a prominent critic of the Clintons, a Fox News commentator and supporter of Republicans. His latest book is “Armageddon: How Trump Can Beat Hillary.”

I'm a big fan of Dick Morris and this is the first interview by Cenk I have ever watched. Excellent; and he has my respect. Both sides listened with respect, no interruptions, agreed to disagree, found areas of commonality and parted amicably. I'm ready to view some more of this channel. Much can be learned from an interview like this.

I'm surprised by how well Dick Morris comes across in this interview. Cenk seems hung up on whether they agree or disagree on various points, but Morris provides really fascinating and well-informed analysis of a wide range of issues. So much better than the usual point-counterpoint kind of squabbling.

I agree with you. I was totally impressed with Morris. Cenk is too stuck in his ideological bigotry to examine his positions. The Left fears national populism as they are stripped of their populist veneer to attract and persuade the working class.

Yeah similar thing with me haha Except I just can't have someone who talks like an out-in-the-open fascist be elected POTUS. At least Hillary is the devil we know how to fight, and with powers being more and more decentralized in the face of big money, her influence will become more and more manageable. Trump possibly turning the U.S. into his own personal 3rd Reich is just not an option. Even the thought of him appointing a judge or giving a SOTU address makes me shiver and physically sick. If this astonishingly reasonable conversation couldn't sway me, nothing can.

Such a good interview. I'm surprised that it turned out as well as it did. I firmly believe that a substantive argument, actually listening to one another's grievances, and having a little empathy for the other person is the best way to make progress. This was a great interview Cenk. Don't listen to these trolls, you did just fine. This was my first time I heard about the importance of earned income tax credit (EITC) and how much we pay into our own Social Security accounts. I also liked how Dick mentioned that we ought to pressure, rather than subsidize, against bad management in colleges. I actually had the same idea with welfare reform. Encourage rather than cut off folks on welfare (who are proven to be in stable condition), to leave resources for those who are not in stable condition. We both learned new political and economic strategies in this interview. You did great Cenk, don't let anyone tell you different.

Here is the important take away for me. One full hour with no editing (it seems) and no interuption between two well educated and respectful participants in a quiet setting and with the ability for the listener to pause or rewind or save as desired. Does anyone think that you would see this on TV? We can agree or disagree on some or all of what we heard here and that's great! Just because you don't agree with someone does not mean they are wrong, stupid or "a slime bucket". The times they are a changing, thank God!

--His belief that money is ultimately going to naturally lose out to the freedom of the internet is dangerously naive. Money is currently being outmaneuvered by the internet on the national level, that's all. Political money is old and conservative (in that it works a specific way and is slow to change) but once it figures out where and how to direct its efforts online, suddenly you're fighting a battle of paid professionals versus part time amateurs again. Dick Morris looks at this like he is looking at the evolution of man chart, not realizing that not only was each step along the chart a bitter struggle, but that there were a lot of evolutionary dead ends along the way. --Dick Morris's belief that immigration is the *leading* cause of income inequality? Preposterous. Immigration of unskilled workers hits low-educated Americans (highschool dropouts) the hardest, having cost them between 7-8% in terms of average, annual income decline up to the year 2000. Immigration doesn't explain income inequality unless you're in the least-skilled or least-educated categories, and even then it only accounts for a small amount of that inequality (actual economists put it at around 5%). Also, he conveniently leaves out Agriculture (the industry which has the largest number of illegal workers, proportionately) out of his rebuttal against the jobs we don't want to do. When it comes to agriculture, where about 16% of the workers are illegal immigrants, those *are* jobs we don't want to do, with actual evidence to that effect in the form of produce rotting in the fields of states that cracked down on illegal hiring practices. --Dick Morris's attempts to draw a distinction between corrupt and personally corrupt presidents is a meaningless word salad. He essentially tries to make the point that Hillary Clinton is out to enrich herself and, if given the highest position in the land, she will continue to do so to the detriment of the US. What he fails to realize (or intentionally ignores) is that even if Hillary Clinton were the most self-serving politician in history, her acts of personal enrichment are amateur hour relative to the actions taken by businessmen in the private sector. Donald Trump is not only more likely to abuse the United States for personal gain as president, he is likely to do so freely and uninhibited, and would bring with him the most complex web of conflicts of interest of any president, ever. --Less important: Dick Morris's insistence on his good track record of predictions. No one botched the 2012 race like Dick Morris. He barely got the 2008 election right; he was correct with Obama but he botched pretty much every detail of the race. He has very selective memory of what predictions he considers his track record. Looking at the actual record shows a guy whose positive hit rate took a nosedive in the 2000s and never recovered. 2010 and 2014 are his broken clock successes. I could keep going on and on, but there are really two important facts here: First, Dick Morris is ethically compromised (to put it nicely.) You can't be sure of whether the position he is holding is intellectually honest, or if he is giving intellectual cover to people or groups who are paying him--something he is famous for. Second, Dick Morris can't take himself out of the subject; which is to say that his bias colors his position to a large extent and blinds him to some very obvious contradictions. Frankly, he shouldn't be supporting Trump if he actually believes what he says, but the fact is that he will support someone who will almost certainly do everything he fears Clinton will do--and to a greater degree--simply because Trump is not Clinton and Dick Morris's experience is with the Clintons.

cenauge Fine, disregard Dick Morris and search the wiki leaks yourself. Read "clinton cash" and find out how corrupt Hillary is from someone else. Watch the hours of congressional hearings with Hillary lying through her teeth and everyone involved pleading the fifth. Witness Hillary being either protected by these people or these people merely trying to protect their own hide from the Clinton machine. People like intern Seth Rich conveniently dying in a "robbery" with his wallet left in his pocket. Come on now, this woman is pure evil and I don't need Dick Morris to tell me

Really awesome conversation. I obviously tend to agree with Cenk more than Dick here but I was pretty shocked at how reasonable Dick Morris sounded here . I didn’t know much about him prior to this interview and I always assumed he was an establishment figure becuase he supported the highly establishment candidate Romney in 2012 (not to say Obama wasn’t an establishment candidate). but clearly he’s not. I’m glad to hear there’s conservatives out there that understand the extreme corrupting influence of big money and corporations over our government . The difference comes when someone like me , a progressive, want to get money out of the political system and take away power from corporations but then I want the government to do what it does NOW for corporations and the wealthy for regular people! I want the government to do quantitative easing that helps working people! If the government can afford to bailout wallstreet, give out giant corporate subsidies, etc , then it can ABSOLUTELY afford to provide healthcare to every citizen , make public colleges ,universities , and trade schools tuition free, and do UBI. These things would be a giant help for average working people and the poor and would be a ladder to climb out of their socio-economic situations and become more likely to start businesses , have more money in their pockets and therefore spend more money into the economy , and would lower crime rates because the number 1 cause of crime is being in low socio-economic situations . So the government currently works for the wealthy and corporations , and it does it quite successfully for them! Why not get rid of their power by changing the way the system functions and using the government to do that for the 99% instead!

Great interview. Cenk I congratulate you. This is one of the best interviews TYT has made. Dick Morris is right. There are many issues were the left and the right can converge. That should be way to a new political party that can undertake real change.
