And English will be rucking to Reid, Ginbey and Hewitt. Why would he not want to finish his career home in WA. He has a house here and bulldogs want salary cap too. But I just used him as an example. Money won’t be a factor and early draft picks won’t either. Eventually it will lead to performance, it has to. Look at Melb and Carlton. And they didn’t even have the money to spend on Football Dept. I am sure West Coast are thinking just pay the spend tax and fast track the development. Richest Club with over $60M in cash reserve. I am sure a lot of people are enjoying us being rock bottom, but it won’t be long before we bounce back. History tells you that.

Sam is a bloody liar! He absolutely INSTSTED MULTIPLE TIMES that Harley Reid was not going to the Eagles and did not want to stay there. Now he's backtracking hard! Just admit, Sam, that among the many bad decisions the Eagles have made over recent years, they got the Reid decision right and the boy has already made it clear he wants to be with West Coast. Just grow a set of balls, Sam, and admit that you got it TOTALLY WRONG. My Eagles certainly need more than Reid, but we know we can build a team around him as often happens around superstar players. Kane is spot on by saying that if Reid were doing everything he currently is in a North jumper, the Eagles would be heavily criticised for giving him up. Also, what the Eagles really need right now is not more draftees but more decent players in their low to mid 20s to lead our young brigade. No point having all these draft picks with no one to lead them. All these old players are about to retire giving us plenty of salary cap space to buy the players we need.

If he signs a contract extension you'll know that he is committed to the club. If he doesn't, you'll know you're in trouble. You might have cap space when players retire, but that doesn't mean that good players actually want to come to the Eagles. The same applies to North.

As an Eagle fan I am refusing to watch 1 second of this 😂. Kane damn well knows the blessings that have been delivered to Port… they got Willie from us and we were nice about it (I wish Willie Rioli the best)… they got Jason Horne-Francis from North… They are playing in Adelaide a whopping 7 times in the first ten rounds for 2024 fixture. So Kane is the last person in the world who should be bitching lol. Try and put yourself in our shoes last year… we had the most depressing day of our sports life with the 171 point atrocity… (it was like footy PTSD), and then later Kane comes along and says “the AFL should intervene and not let Harley come to Perth”. So forgive me, but if there is a clip about the Eagles with anything Kane Cornes speaking about us… I cannot bring myself to watch it. His harsh criticism about our on-field performance is 100% accurate (no complaint there), but when he imposed his advocacy of dogging us culturally I just had enough Even if you absolutely hate and despise the Eagles, even you can’t stand us… he completely crossed the red line there

Nine coughed up the AFL TV rights 20 years ago, after having them for about 3 years. They always seemed more interested in NRL coverage. The last half-decent AFL program in their portfolio was The Footy Show, which lost ratings and is now off the air. I wish they would just get their hand out of the AFL cookie jar altogether.

Maclure is just trying to justify why he was 1000% wrong on his original Reid story. Maybe one day, in a Galaxy Far Far Away, one of his predictions will come good, .. and he can have his ''I told you so'' moment. Eagles can also pick guys in mid season drafts... so they should be able to build a side around Oscar Allen and Harley Reid over the next three years. But I agree, there needs to be a cleanout of older players , traded or retired over the next two years to make the most of the draft hands they will be dealt. Well im no sam fan im no media fan but with all the talk about reid he probably maybe felt obligated to do what he did! Ive seen many a player say they love the club there at and along comes a rising club offer billions and of he goes to get big money AND a cup! Now im no media opinion based so im not saying he will or will not stay but there definitely is a 50 50 chance he leaves to 1. Come home 2. Leave a club that is 10 to 15 years away from a cup and 3. Big money and a cup chance! But the only one of those 3 reasons they can match is money! The other 2 they cannot! There the 3 reasons a player leaves they can only match 1! If eagles are on bottom in 3 years i rekon he leaves and that jumper tugg will be long forgotten! And i agree they could of traded that pick for 2 to 3 quality players! But thats just my opinion! @@mareewalker1096 Well the way the draft works if clubs are smart and dont trade away top picks, they should get another 2-3 top five picks, and if the Eagles were brave and decided to trade McGovern, Barras and even Yeo.. I think they can get another 2 or three top ten or top 15 picks.. that gives them a nice chunk of top young talent to begin crafting a side. I think Petracca et al were taken around 2014 .. 2015.. they won a flag in six years for the Dees. So I think the Eagles are four years away from contending again... right around the time Harley Reids contract negotiation comes up. The only guy who left who the Eagles wanted to keep was Chris Judd, and we got Josh Kennedy in return, the greatest power forward ever to play for the club. As long as the Eagles dont trade top talent away in the next 3 years they should be well on the way to make a charge sometime around 2028. Theres no quick fixes sadly the way the draft is. It is incredibly rare for me to say this, but for once I agree with Caro on this one. I grew up near Tongala and me and Harley both played for Bendigo Pioneers at the same time, so I speak with more than a little authority on this matter. Even if he doesn't play his entire career there, at the moment I know for a fact he is extremely happy in WA and has no plans to move home. He told me that WA feels like a classier, better Geelong and Geelong is his favourite place in Victoria. I would love for him to come home, but I don't honestly see it happening.
