It's been over a week since this happened, and I initially had no intention to address this on KZbin. I appreciate all that reached out, I learned a valuable lesson and hope others can learn from this as well. People are acting like this is the end of the world when in reality, people have it so much worse than me. I will learn from this mistake and look forward to making more content again soon.
If you're ever looking to Buy or Sell cards check out my Instagram ‪@StaknSports‬
If you're ever looking to sell your whole Sports card Collection email me @staknsell@gmail.com
I hope this clears the air.

Completely agree man. It sucks and just drives prices up when everyone is buying a card to sell to someone else to sell to someone else etc. All of the “sports card investors” are basically adding a ton of artificial value to cards and the actual collectors are getting ripped off for it. Hell kids aren’t even able to rip any of the cards worth a damn because the prices have gotten so insane. I love actual card shop owners and people who really care about cards, but I’m getting tired of all these Covid era people (the same people that got into NFTS and crypto) ruining the hobby. I can only hope that while the value of newer cards keeps decreasing that will drive these people away and back into some other gambling or investment hobby.

This is wild to me man! Hats off to you for owning this. You got caught up in the moment, holding the bright shiny object. I also find it hard to believe that the dealer put together a deal for that big of a card and did not know the damage was there. There is plenty of blame to go around. I will make a comment on a card being slabbed AUTHENTIC. I strongly disagree that an AUTHENTIC slab is a red flag. Everyone knows that patch cards grade TOUGH! A poor grade can absolutely crush the value. However, if I am PCing a player and a card is something that I plan on holding a LONG time, if not indefinitely, I just want it slabbed. I want it protected. Especially a Flawless card, or an NT card. As a collector, grades can taint a card. I just enjoy having certain cards in my collection. Just my two cents worth as a long-term "hold" collector.

As a collector for MANY years, I am happy to see the level of self-ownership of purchasing a damaged card. Obv the sticker seems too convenient and I'm sure, wherever along the line, someone was being deceitful and trying to hide the damage for a profit which is terribly dishonest and is unneeded in this hobby. Tons of "flippers", "influencers", or whomever are going to attack you to out the dealer because they're in the business of if something goes wrong, it wasn't my fault (For example: have a card with a low recent comp, "I'm not counting that comp"). Your self-awareness and understanding now of the level of care when purchasing now will return a higher yield than if this situation had never happened. I am sorry this happened but I am glad the dealer was able to somewhat ease the level of loss and you were able to take it in stride. A great deal will come your way soon; karma always returns what it takes away.

@ogChipbleeder the guys on the inside make over $100,000, not sure about this guy... And they all do it a bit fraudulent... this is what they do- Imagine you and 15 of your collector friends want to hype up a Certain set of cards (because they stock piled them for a few months) They sell the card back and forth, other same player cards, and other set cards... Say it is purchased for $1000, then every 10 days after for $1100, $1350, $1690, $1780, $1940, $2200, $2410, $2600... it raises the price of those set cards and similar player cards... You see this card has been skyrocking the past 3 months, you get it at $2500... by this time those collectors are dumping all of their specific set cards and player cards and moving onto another and you are holding the bag....Cards now only have a HOT life for 6-18 months... and they must be constantly sold back and forth to gain value... If you aren't in the circle then somebody else is determining value.

I fell for something like that many years ago when I was a teenager back in the pre-grading era (mid-1980s). A card shop owner sold me a 1972 Topps Steve Garvey card. It was in a screw down holder and had a circular price tag on the center of the card (and a circular sticker on the back of the card in the exact same spot. The card overall looked very clean and had sharp corners. The card was priced closed to a mint and I decided to purchase the card. Unfortunately, I didn't asked to look at the card outside of the screw down and when I got home I discovered a huge grease bubble that seeped from the front to the back of the card. I went back to the store and tried to return it but the owner said the card didn't have the grease stain when he sold it to me. I ended up never going to the store again and shared the story with as many people as I could. The store went out of business a couple years later though I doubt it had anything to do with the card and ensuring customer service he provided me.

I give you props for not naming the dealer. Regardless of whether or not he knew it was damaged is a mute point. You had the decency to stay true to your own morals and not just blaming him. It was your fault for not looking the card up and down. Front and back. Personally I would've tried to remove the sticker just to look at it in all its glory. He would've had more stickers. I think he knew something was up with it. A dealer will know the comps and anything and everything. But you said it yourself, you saw the card and got the high of getting it for a good deal. Something in my gut even tells me that the neighbor in the booth next to him knew something was up with the card too, that's why he was eyeing you so bad. Not that you we're trying to steal it but that you'd uncover the truth of the card in the first place is my guess. But lesson learned, even if it was the hard way and it hurt your pocket. It's true you were in the manifesting moment and made the snap purchase, whereas he would have had time to think about it. It'd been sitting in his case, staring at him. Hope the investigation reveals the truth here - but I also hope this does not get unsafe for the dealer at any point.

Props for taking responsibility. I personally think that the dealer knew about the damage (whether or not he was the one that put the tag there). However, he priced it as a damaged card, and the auction results of that exact card was there for everybody to see. He also did give you a $1500 credit AFTER a deal was agreed upon and paid for. This was not a card that was purchased online-you were able to touch, feel, look, loupe, and ask if you could take a closer look at the card (even if that meant removing the tag). Again-I’m not saying the dealer is a saint-I think he knew about the damage. With that said-the buyer was guilty of doing no due diligence-and the dealer agreed to the offer the buyer made (the dealer offered $750 back, the buyer asked for $1500 credit-which the dealer agreed to). What I see here is a deal where both sides worked together to make something work. The buyer is assuming responsibility and the seller did agree to a proposal made to him by the buyer after the deal was agreed upon.

He knew sadly. A card of that caliber is going to be looked at just like your buddy did, which that vendor did or someone told him just like you were told. As someone else said, he was OK with 6500 knowing it sold between 11-13k. Too fishy for someone who makes 400k deals. He also wouldn't be willing to give you 1500 in credit. He probably would've given you 4k knowing what he did and got caught (essentially). Great video. It is cool that you think so highly of people...don't in business though. I agree with you-but how about the obligation of the buyer? The buyer isn’t some kid or newbie to the hobby. A big fact that is getting overlooked here is that the buyer himself is a card dealer. He goes around flying to card shows to buy cards to flip. He should have checked comps to see that the card he bought was the EXACT card that just sold for $4500.

But you did minimal research on your own and avoided it. What a pro life hack: if you blindly rush through a too good to be true deal, you might get less than you expect. Greed got this guy. Not a shady seller. The seller misrepresented NOTHING. Even the sticker, which was placed to not kill potential interest (smart IMO), wasn’t permanent. If a buyer can’t spend 10 seconds eyeballing a card no one would grade A unless damaged, that’s on THEM Glad you avoided a crap truck, but you avoided it because you didn’t get blinded by greed and did minimal research FIRST

I only collect cards, i don't buy cards to sell.. i have cards worth thousands but i refuse to sell any of them! i always check the cards before i buy especially if it says authentic!! i have no joy in selling cards cause everything i collect is nostalgia to me.. what keeps me happy Is having cards others dont have especially 1of1 cards of well established players that are HOF Worthy.. i buy players that have been in the league over 5 years, i dont like to lose out on money, even though im not making any profit..

I appreciate the stand point you are taking. But an inconsistent part of the story is the dealer that sold the card. If he was as savvy as you. He would be thinking the card would sell like similar NT cards for $8k to $13k. But the dealer was willing to sell it for $6.5 k. Either he got a really good deal (knowing or unknowingly) on the card to still be able to flip the card for $6.5k or the dealer is the guy that bought the card on eBay and created conditions to look more innocent. Regardless, good information about keeping once’s cool on big deals. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your future pot cast. 🎉

Nobody deceived anybody. The card was graded authentic because there was something wrong with it. Never buy a card graded authentic. Why would somebody pay hundreds of dollars to get a card graded and then have it not given a numerical grade The only reason is they saw a flaw in it in the 1st place And it didn't wanna grade lower than an 8

That cards got a good bit of sentimental value now.. I'd frame it and hang it on the wall. If you can't fix it feature it! It may not be the most valuable or your favorite (that individual card itself) but it definitely has become more famous than than the other printings

Glad you didn't slam the dealer you bought it from. However the guy that he bought it from should be outted. If the dealer would have simply said nope done deal then perhaps. Personally most dealers of long term have a simple no returns because while this is graded, numbered and obviously in the same condition as purchased I can't tell you the number of scams perpetrated (or attempted) from switches. You seem like a good guy so don't worry about any negative feedback. P.S. why don't I ever see anyone use a magnifying glass when looking at cards? I won't buy a coin or card without at least a 10X and 20x.

Wow a man that takes responsibility. Congrates you are a grown ass man!! If a deal sounds too good it usually is. You are buying from a dealer, you didn't think he knew what he had? You never wondered why it was not graded by number?? He did to you exactly what you wanted to do to the next person. AUTHENTIC why didn't that raise a red flag. Time to find a card doctor.

Yeah the dealer 100% knew the damage was there. Someone who buys 400k collections know what there doing and people like that are gonna want to know why a high end modern card is in an authentic slab before they buy it, also if comps were 9-11k why was he asking so low. its because he knew.

In my opinion A.. the dealer wouldn’t have made a call if he just got it half hour earlier B.. why would dealer leave the original sticker from the other person C.. dealer does half million dollar deals , yet sells the card for half price D.. dealer doesn’t look the card over ,it’s hard to miss E.. dealer does half million dollar deals but no longer has 6500 F.. sticker placement was perfect for deception It just all smells fishy to me .. Sorry but with what I can see ,looks like he took you , got caught , said he’s broke so he didn’t have take the card back , then offers u some comp to smooth it out but still not take the card back .. kinda shady honestly..

I just wish when I was this kid's age I had the money to spend $6500 on anything, much less a damaged card lol. On topic, the dealer should be banned. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing and it's why he listed the card at a "too good to be true" price AND covered the damage with the sticker. Also as others have mentioned, cards authenticated and not graded are usually a red flag. At the end of the day to spin some positivity on it, you learned a lesson (albeit an expensive one), are getting the information out there for others to beware of in the future and you have a story to tell.

It’s a HUGE red flag. And this guy was JUST buying it to flip themselves. The seller sold it as “Authentic”. The sticker is irrelevant. They definitely covered the damage. So? Was it sold without being able to inspect for 10 seconds? Was the sticker covering anything on the dog bite on the BACK? This flipper got burned because he got greedy and rushed through what he thought was a steal from someone else. He had no intention of keeping it. Which makes not taking 10 seconds to look at it first even more inexcusable. Glad he’s taking the L, because the vendor priced an Authentic fairly, negotiated LOWER, and did nothing wrong. Had he said “it’s mint” or “it’ll grade a 9 if you crack it” sure. But he didn’t misrepresent anything even IF he put a sticker on the front. Ignore red flags at your own peril. No one forced this guy to buy a card he thought he could flip. He bought an authentic Purdy NT. He got an authentic Purdy NT. There IS no scam.

How do you not inspect a card before buying it? Especially with the amount of red flags. No number grade, red flag. Low asking price, red flag. Price tag covering corner, red flag. My 9 year old niece would have figured that out.

Another lesson here is if it seems too good it probably is. You spent 6500 and in the end got a $4000 Brudy card and $1500 other cards. Transaction seems fair. You saw a card. Dealer gave you card to examine and it was labeled Authenic. You had every opportunity to see damage from the back but not from the front. No need to give dealer name and cause trouble for him with the trolls of the world. Is he the most open dealer you will ever meet probably not. Is he trying to scam everyone probably not. A scam would have been him telling you Authenic was probably only put there because someone didn't want to pay extra for a grade. You will never know his part in the situation with any real certainity. You do know your part and where you went wrong. Sharing the story reminds us to look everything over and take our time.

People are so quick to blame the dealer or other person its wild.... dealer offered 1500 in trade credit with brought the paid amount way down.... not far off true value anyway. Would like to hear his side and see what is said...the original ebay seller could clear this up if he is asked who he shipped the card too if its the dealer question answered....if not then we know hes honest.. so much drama when people get scammed everyday for every item... In other news glad to see staknsell back dude always made interesting content!

Your naiveté got you ripped off by a savvy dealer who is used to ripping people off. You are so naive you believe him. You are naive for still trying to be a good guy and not exposing the guy. If the dealer was a "good" guy, he would have given you your money back immediately and sought justice how he "got" the card. He didn't.

Everyone was shady in this deal. Therefore it shouldn’t be a issue. Dealer knew there was damage. Buyer knew it was extremely underpriced..trying to get a steal of a deal. Prob thinking the seller didn’t know the value. Again. Dealer knew he was being sneaky. And buyer was also doing the same. Dealers view…. He might of thought you knew about the damage when he wasn’t at the table.
