(Still can’t think of a name for her though). I’m about 95% certain it’s a female because of the coloration, but I’m not even sure it’s a mature adult because she’s almost smaller than a dime. Why are Jumping spiders SO ADORABLE!?
@kitsune0rei3 жыл бұрын
So sorry about Bean! I had a similar thing happen- I got my first jumper as an adult, she unexpectedly laid one egg sac and passed away just after they hatched. She was eating so I thought she was doing ok. I was told she was captive bred, but it seems like maybe not. I have several dark girls who I was planning on pairing (they still seem to not be to their last molt yet, they were later season clutches), but if I get babies I'll send you one :) It wouldn't be till like late summer tho. I have no problem with your removing the baby spiders, I think that was the right choice. I was going to mention one of the big things that can help with getting them eating it light! They seem to really like indirect sunlight. They decide to do things in their own time tho. Don't afraid to work on handling with Boonhower(sp?). Jumpers can be fun to hold but most need to get used to the feel of you skin before they're ok with it. I've had several jumpers jump between my fingers and have a lot of fun. I've also set up a little "spider playground" area in an open area with various objects to climb and jump between. I use stuff like extra pieces of wood I have laying around, small fake plants, clothespins, pipe cleaners, random stuff I find at the dollar store. My more active jumpers seem to enjoy it.

I took in a Steatoda nobilis (noble false widow) in for the winter and looked after her till it warmed up here in the uk, in that time she had 3 eggsacs and 2 of them hatched and the other 1 was a phantom sac, was great till the majority of them decided my room was now their room too, I have relocated them back outside now though!

@@yoursugarismine You can just assume that if you want and try to make random strangers on the internet feel bad over appreciating the beauty of animal and wanting it as a pet, if that makes you feel better about yourself. You kinda just look like an ass to the rest of us though. There are literally thousands of wild caught animals who are in the pet hobby who are living happy healthy lives, often more stress free than they would in the wild and with longer lifespans, because there are less stressors, more food, and no predators trying to eat them in captivity. Please take your ignorance elsewhere

yoursugarismine agreed. The wild animal is used to freedom; capturing it, transporting it, and putting it into a brand new environment that’s also an enclosure seems inhumane (even if done with the best intentions). Sometimes people just refuse to see the common sense here.

I brought a couple of jumpers in from outside and even though I've brought fruit flies, mealworms, and even caught flies and crane flies they seem unhappy and seem to do nothing much other than sit in their webs or look for ways out of their habitats. NOW, I'm pretty sure the largest one has laid eggs... so no only have I made captive spiders unhappy I could soon have a bunch of helpless babies to release back into the wild. I only wanted to care for them and I've just complicated their lives. Sadly, I already suffer from complicated grief reactions and a host of other problems related to loss and grief and being unable to help those I love... I don't know what to do.
