Kubo didn't do a good job there because the dialogue, Ichigo's expression didn't sell that Ichigo knows, feel Aizen is getting stronger. Ichigo maintained his cool the whole fight for the sake of looking badass. Right now we are going to conclusion that Ichigo did that because he needs to, and very much it is true. But Kubo didn't convey it properly, because if a casual Bleach reader, or anime viewer see that scene, they can't see Ichigo as the losing side. Kubo should have added Ichigo thinking to himself, admitting he felt Aizen getting stronger, instead of having Ichigo maintaining his cool with "You're boring, I'm ending this now"

Pretty sure it was necessary. Ichigo was leagues above Aizen when the fight started, but even if he had bisected him then and there, the Hougyoku would've just kept him alive. By the time he used Mugetsu, Aizen had transformed to such a state that he was able to seriously damage Ichigo's left arm and this is a jump from him being able to stop his sword with the same arm. Hell, Mugetsu wasn't even enough to win the fight. It weakned Aizen and slowed him to the point he could be sealed. Aizen literally was just about to achieve the final zanpakuto state and would've been nigh unstoppable. The guy is immortal and will constantly evolve to be stronger and stronger. By the TYBW arc, he's pretty much unstoppable and all he's done is sit in a chair. I think this question is fundamentally wrong in how it understands Ichigo’s power in this arc. My interpretation was that Aizen basically had it correct: the power Ichigo gained when he came out of the Dangai had something to do with “throwing away” his potential and trading it for a power-up. The power Ichigo gained that allowed him to fight and at some points even surpass Aizen was a prerequisite for using Mugetsu. Put simply, Ichigo was already “using” Mugetsu from the moment he appeared out of the Dangai, that is where the power up came from. Ichigo actually using the technique to damage Aizen at the climax of the fight was just the moment where he released Mugetsu, after which the technique was used up and his powers were gone. Ichigo says that the Saigo no Getsuga Tenshō is him becoming Getsuga, and I would argue that is apparent in his appearance even before the final attack: the fact that the Zanpakutō merged with his hand. And honestly this makes more sense than Ichigo just needing a couple of months of training to go blow-for-blow with not base-Aizen (who was already ridiculously strong even compared to most of the other captains) but Aizen merged with the Hōgyoku. Ichigo had already sacrificed his Shinigami powers before he appeared back in Karakura Town, and I would assume (because it would be a silly technicality otherwise) that even if he never released Mugetsu, at some point his “time” in that form would have been up and the same result would have happened... I just want to say that I love the content you have been making on this channel. I’ve been a big fan of Bleach from the beginning and I love finding creators who are just as interested in the world Kubo created!

I always wondered how Aizen didn't know Ichigo was of Quincy blood, this was something that always made me think that this arc and the 1000 year war are completely disconnected in Kubo's mind. This is especially seen in how Ichigo gains his powers, showing that Kubo always had the intention of making Ichigo a Quincy, but his direction with Aizen, and by consequence, the Hogyoku incomplete. Also, would this mean in a way that quincy powers could disrupt the connection with the Hoguoku.

Yeah he probably would have used up all his , given that now immense , spiritual energy. Sure, he was so strong that even Aizen couldn't sense it, but I'm sure that the Final Getsuga eats up way more of energy than the normal Bankai form. @@JamesJones-mt9co Ichigo only had the potential to catch up to Aizen at first. That's why his father decided to have him learn the Final Getsuga - it uses all of your potential power in one attack. @@Blah2000Blah yeah, but even Isshin was using his powers as a soul reaper when Ichigo first became one with Rukia. That's because Isshin had lost his powers, and ended up gaining it back. It makes sense, because Aizen really knows Ichigo's potential. Aizen states that he knew Ichigo from the beginning. Which also means he knows his family quite well. If that's the case then you have to think Aizen factored in the fact that not only is Ichigo a half soul reaper, but Isshin pushed himsekf with engestu to obtain another level of power, which in turn he could teach Ichigo later. When Aizen gets to the the world of the living he even says Ichigo will be here soon and I have no doubt in my mind that he obtain some new power.

I think it was necessary that Ichigo lose his powers to move the story forward without it getting ridiculous. Because if he hadn't, he would have been too op from the start for any need of help from Ginjo. It was very compelling to see his struggle in the final arc of the anime and the confrontation with the fullbringers. Could it have been done differently? For sure. Maybe stretch the fight out a little more. Specially after the first part in which Ichigo stomps Aizen. Once Aizen is in his beast mode, they could fight more on par to make it more interesting and to force Ichigo into using his final getsuga tensho aka Mugetsu. He maybe didn't need to use that if he could have pushed Aizen to the edge with normal getsugas enough for the seal to activate, but then he wouldn't have lost his powers... It was cool and I found it a satisfying way of finishing things. Though all things said, I find it a bit iffy all the 'on a different dimension' stuff specially as it's not referenced again and everyone is much stronger later on without transcending... I don't know haha I love bleach in spite of all its flaws

This is the exact thought I have, there's no way in hell to get a satisfying opponent for Ichigo after this until Yhwach. His Dangai form is to OP for anyone else. I'm not sure if it was necessary in the fight b/c at no time does Aizen say I can finally sense his SP which seems like they're still worlds away power wise & Ichigo easily pushed him back after he grabs his throat.

The simple explanation is that the power scale was getting out of control so Kubo did a high enough scale to defeat the bad guy in order to set things back to zero, otherwise it lead to DBZ/DBS levels with galactic/universal/multiversal/infinite dimensional level threats, which would be harder to justify how the heroes could reach that level, even with training. I feel like all those points are agreeable, but I want to bring up the fact the Hogyoku is known to have a will of its own and be subservient to those with enough power to control it. It's probably not a concrete theory, but I believe the Hogyoku resisted Aizen after he was struck with Mugetsu. Even though it was melded to Aizen, Kisuke mentions that it no longer serves him and has abandoned him, which makes sense if you consider Aizen was unable to regenerate Kyoka Suigetsu or resist the seal. Going even further, I believe that since Ichigo had been leagues above Aizen for pretty much the whole fight, the Hogyoku saw Ichigo more worthy and granted what it could to its new master: a way to stop Aizen. And part of this goes back to something Aizen said about the Hogyoku, that it responds to the desires of those around it and gives them what they want. Rukia no longer wanted to be a Soul Reaper, Ichigo wanted to protect his family, Orihime wanted to be able to defend herself, Chad wanted to protect others, etc. And what Ichigo had wanted while fighting Aizen was to stop him, and the Hogyoku responded by stripping Aizen of all the power he'd had in that fight.

The hogyoku had perfectly melded with Aizen's very own form and existence to the point that he simply keeps getting powerful even while being sealed in the muken. I think this all boils down to what Aizen said to ichigo during their battle. It was all a momentary weakness, really. It's somewhat ironic if you think about it.

After Aizen transformed again against Ichigo, his strongest attack barely burned Ichigo's arm, and Aizen STILL couldn't even begin to sense Ichigo's spirit pressure. Ichigo was implied to have reached an even higher dimension of existence than Aizen, so he would be able to bisect Aizen easily even without the Final Getsuga Tenshou. That being said, I think it required the Final Getsuga Tenshou to weaken Aizen enough that the Hogyoku would reject him.

But it destroyed some of his shirt, and his shirt indicates how much power he had lunch left, so if he didn't use mugetsu, aizen might've won
@We_Are_I_Am4 жыл бұрын
While Fragor did destroy like 25% of Ichigo's Shihakusho, keep in mind that Ichigo not only didn't even bother to dodge, nor even defend himself properly (unless raising his arm "half-assed-ly" counts as defending himself), but he also didn't even have the slightest interest or expression when tanking the attack, and even after casually tanking it, he still let Aizen grab him by the neck and allow a futile strangulation attempt. Don't forget afterward, Ichigo still casually brushed off Aizen with ease, and still didn't express ANY interest, stress, worry, or emotion in the fight, and was still breathing completely calmly. In fact, another thing which kind of contradicts the information that tears of his clothes indicate battle fatigue, is that after Ichigo used Final Getsuga Tensho and started losing his powers, he still had the same amount of Shihakusho left! So then if his clothes actually represented his remaining power, he shouldn't have a Shihakusho at all! So I have no reason to believe Ichigo wouldn't have stomped Aizen as hard as Saitama did with Awakened Garou, without using Final Getsuga Tensho, but the fight would probably never end unless Ichigo weakened Aizen enough for the Hogyoku to reject him and allow Kisuke's Kido to activate.

Did you watch/read the fight? Dangai Ichigo was beating aizen around but nowhere was he close to bisecting Aizen easily. If that was the case, Ichigo wouldn't have needed to use Mugetsu nor would Urahara need to plant a seal within Aizen before the fight happened. Which implies that Urahara knew killing Aizen was an impossibility.
@We_Are_I_Am4 жыл бұрын
I never said that Ichigo could kill Aizen (especially since it was shown already that Aizen was immortal). Ichigo never even attempted to use a regular Getsuga Tensho during their battle, and there was nothing to indicate he was putting any effort in the fight up until he went straight to Final Getsuga Tensho: Mugetsu. Thus, in my opinion, I still think Ichigo at that point could have bisected Aizen easily, but that doesn't mean he can kill Aizen; Aizen regenerated from the Final Getsuga Tensho, anything less would only be easier to regenerate himself from.

Kubo's bad drawing posture wrecked his writing arm , that hurt the quality of his work and that lead to lower ratings and together they lead to the ending of bleach being forced earlier then most wanted , Kubo needed surgery after he finished bleach to reconnect the tendons in his arm so most of the rushed ending is because of this

Yes, he needed to nuke aizen hard enough that he killed him before he evolved to the point he actually became a problem. He could of slapped him around for a couple more transformations thou. He blocked 6 ceros with 1 arm.. broke a choke hold from aizen casually swinging his arm... he was still waaaay ahead of aizen. He wouldnt of been able to put him down without mugetsu thou. He basically devolved aizen when he hit him.. the kido took affect at that point.

The hogyoku didn't reject him, ichigo hypothesized that aizen was feeling alone because he was just too strong. He finally found a worthy opponent (ichigo) but when ichigo lost his powers his heart was satisfied so he lost his powers too. Aizen was just to rational and he never understood his real desire but the hogyoku works based on the owner desires. To me, the author knew there would be more story but Ichigo did not. Ichigo has always wanted a normal life and all of the trials and tribulations he went through to get to the end boss. He figured after Aizan there was nothing left and his powers were "borrowed" anyway. So in his eyes he just wanted to be done with it all and stop the suffering and fighting and he was prepared to lose his powers but the big bad would finally be finished.
@Regonix4 жыл бұрын
Mugetsu attack potency is crazy powerful. Lets explain why. First of all, Aizen couldn't even react to it, meaning that at very least mugetsu hits faster than light and could be hundreds of times faster than light. Based on the distance between Aizen and Ichigo and the the hole it have cut in the ground we can assume that the slash extended to at least 1000m of length. So, this whole distance was slashed faster than light. But wait, there is more. Based on how far up the cut went (above the mountain tops) and how deep it was we can assume that the slash was about 2000m of height. If we assume that the width of the cut was even and the same as the one left on the ground (lets say about 20cm=0.2m), then hit attack volume was at least 400'000 m^3. That means that everything in this volume was destroyed. But wait, there is more. If thing he slashed were simply destroyed, then we would have seen burst of flames, clouds of ashes or dusts, but no. Everything he slashed were simply erased out of existence. That means that instead of destroying things he slashed through, Ichigo destroyed space itself within his slash volume. That explains why after mugetsu we saw no clouds of ashes or matter turning into flames, etc. The space itself within his slash volume was destroyed and all matter within in was lost, and it would fit within physical nature of Ichigo's powers. And here is the math why it is crazy powerful. To destroy space itself you need power greater than that of vacuum energy - 10^113 J/m^3. So, mugetsu had attack potency of at least 4*10^118 J to destroy both space and all the mater within that space. Now, here are few comparisons to realize just how powerful mugetsu actually was: 2.24*10^32 J is about minimal energy you need to destroy the earth. 2.3*10^41 J is about minimal energy you need to destroy the sun. 2.12*10^47 J is about minimal energy you need to destroy our solar system. 5.7*10^51 J is about minimal energy you need to destroy a small galaxy. 1.15*10^78 J Is about minimal energy you need to destroy observable universe. All of these number were just for the matter, meaning that after destroying them the space and energy within that space would remain. I know Kubo is no a scientists and he didn't calculated anything, he simply drew what he wanted to drew, but based on what he drew mugetsu have attack potency of multiversal buster. And not simply multiversal - mugetsu essentially have attack potency to destroy billions upon billions of universes. Though, it was limited only to specific space of the slash Ichigo made, so while this attack had absolutely monstrous attack potency, but the actual damage to could do was very very limited. This is why Ichigo was and still is one of the most powerful character in fiction and he could one shot all remaining characters of Bleach, all characters of Naruto, superman, goku and so on. Nearly no character in fiction have enough durability to withstand mugetsu. Only characters with crazy regeneration could survive it. But wait, there is more. Ichigo used mugetsu while he was used to using only his shinigami powers and a little bit of hallow powers. Even at that, he wasn't adapted to most of his power and couldn't consciously control most of it. Zangetsu and White simply allowed to to use some (maybe not even all) their powers. However, after training in royal palace Ichigo learned to control and use all of his powers: shinigami, hallow and quicy powers. Also, Ichigo got even stronger over time, meaning his total power grown as well. So, if he were to use mugetsu after training in royal palace, then it should be much stronger than when he used it first time. If we assume that his total power grew linearly alongside of his combat power and if we assume that his power between fight with Aizen and fight with Yhwach grew about 10 times, then... Mugetsu should also become 10 more powerful = 4*10^119 J. But wait, there is more. Up till now we only assumed that only Ichigo's power grew. What if with all extra training, experience and age he would be able to maintain Final form for longer, attack more times than once or make other attack patters (for example: mugetsu stab). What if he was able to concentrate all destructive power of mugetsu at single point and then stab Yhwach multiple times? What if he was able to release multiple mugetsu attacks in a row? Even if that reduce attack potency of mugetsu by half, nobody would still be able to withstand a single mugetsu, but several of them would be an overkill.

From what I understand, Ichigo needed to overwhelm Aizen, in extension the Hogyouku, and shatter his will. Aizen's once unbreakable will is shattered. And at the same time, if Ichigo's words are to be believe, his subconscious desire was also granted during the battle, to meet someone as special as he is. Aizen, for even a short moment, contended with what he's achieved, no longer desiring power, the Hogyouku responds by taking it away. That short instance with Aizen depowered is all Urahara needs to seal Aizen. Of course, once Aizen's will is restored, we see him going back to full power again.

Ichigo had a time limit on that form.. plus Aizen had the hogyoku, well actually 2 hogyokus fused and thus adaptable transformations. Thats why he wasnt effected by any of ichigos attacks, because he had almost instant healing. Mugetsu made aizen regress temporarily but then pushed him to fully fuse with kyoka suigetsu. The only reason the seal activated is because deep down Aizen was ok with the outcome since ichigo was an outsider who just so happened to have the rare ability to evolve without the hogyoku and use all reiatsu types. Obviously we know why now, the actual question is, could achieve this form again, and if so how does it scale to his form at the end of the manga... Anyhow these are my thoughts

The real question is why Urahara's Kido didn't activate after Gin basically killed him. But as for this topic, I always thought that Ichigo was in a special state where he had to use the Mugetsu soon after, as if his chained arm form was in preparation of the final Getsuga Tenso. I thought this because I couldn't really believe that Ichigo would surpass Aizen just with training for that time alone, and my theory is supported by the fact that when he gets his powers back afterwards, we don't see that form again, meaning that it wasn't one of his natural progressive stages of his Zanpakto, but more similar to Aizen's cocoon stage and his next form had to be Mugetsu. We never really were given alot of explanation about this part tho, and basically none of Ichigo's inner monologue was given during this time.

I don’t think it was that necessary he seemed to have it handled without it. Think he was just completely fed up with Aizen, his personality and arrogance. Think he just wanted to shut him up. Did that mean killing him? Most likely though the only person Ichigo has intentionally killed was Yhwach and Ginjo. Though they were relatively valid reasons I feel he had his reasons for it using it. Maybe he tried to finish Aizen before he could change his mind, or just because he hated the fight with Aizen and wanted to finish it ASAP.

Couldn't he have tried to destroy the Hogyoku instead? It was literally hanging by strings in the hole in his chest, and if he's already so much stronger than Aizen throughout the entire fight, shouldn't Ichigo have been strong enough to just destroy it before it makes Aizen even stronger and eventually equal to or stronger than him? I think it would have been pretty simple if he'd have just finished it and not taking his time defeating him, as it didn't seem like the Hogyoku could tell exactly how strong Ichigo was in order to power Aizen up further to match his strength. It must have reacted according to Aizen's perception of Ichigo's power, and therefore his underestimating of said power was what lead to his defeat.

To me Mugetsu should've been his Bankai, that design is too cool to be only use once.

Yup, exactly a race against the hougyoku pushing further evolutions. So it was necessary to go full Mugetsu while Ichigo had the upper hand. In hindsight it is a very well put together fight. And Gin's role in it is very vital. Gin killing Aizen and him coming back is the first tell that there is no stopping the hougyoku pushing further evolutions. This and Aizen's line about needing the fear of death also a great counter plot-hole as to why Ichigo not being under hypnosis was key to Aizen's plan. As in the end Aizen seeking that challange was a key step if he was ever to reach his goal of becoming a conscious Soul King. He needed to exploit the hougyoku evolutions to stans a chance against the likes of Ichibe, and for that he needed Ichigo to be a genuine threat. Also Gin choosing that moment to betray Aizen first seems a but contrived but makes perfect sense. Aizen was a strategist, prepared for everything and No one knew this more than Gin. The fact that Gin choose to strike then at Aizen's most powerful (until then) and not before is a tell of him getting increasingly unhinged while merging with the hougyoku and so close to his endgame. And this mental breakdown was their only shot whether anyone knew it beforehand or not. In the end Gin and Aizen was quite similar and Ichigo the polar opposite. They sacraficed everything for their selfish goal even their personality and morals. Gin for the revenge, Aizen for the godlike powers "to set the world right". Ichigo on the other hand sacraficed everything for a selfless goal and symbolically that was the make or brake in the hougyoku VS mugetsu. It is one thing knowing your allies are just tools and you will get to discard them once you are at the endgame and the snake in your hand may be out for your blood... but actually going through with it, what will you became. Tousen and the Espada dead, Gin showing his fang, so close to your goals, but what are you at this point Sousuke-kun? Quite a harrowing feeling. No suprise Aizen cracked when over all that that little human exploit-slave kept coming back with an unshakable resolve. As time goes by my appreciation for this fight just grows.

Ichigo never wanted to kill Aizen, just wanted to demoralise him to the point that his inner desires would betray him to the Hōgyoku. When Aizen regenerates himself after Final Getsuga the Hōgyoku delivers on Aizen's hidden desire to be normal and not to feel loneliness anymore. There's a reason he effectively trained Ichigo for this moment, it was so he could finally fight someone he could consider his equal.

First of all, great work on the videos! They're very educational. I agree that Ichigo had to use the final Getsuga Tenshou, and he used it at the absolute last minute. But I disagree with the statement that Aizen is merely a "vessel" for the Hogkyoku. During his encounter with Urahara, Aizen claims to have in fact, "subjugated" the Hogyoku. Kurosaki's final attack drained Aizen of his strength and weakened him enough to break his control of the Hogyoku. This weakened state, made him vulnerable to Kisuke's seal.

Small correction: Dont just say that "Ichigo came out with just a charred arm" He took serious dmg from the small nuke aizen threw and this can be seen by the amount of reiatsu he expended or lost by looking at his clothes He basically lost asizeable portion of his tunic (which is a representation of his spirit energy level) and l believe thats when he commits and decides to end the man before evolves yet further
@Synkronist4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, he had to use up a large amount of reiatsu just to block it. People always ignore the little details

The real question is how did Isshin know about the final getsugatenshou
@alexkuhn51884 жыл бұрын
I have heard a theory, which may be wrong, that the Getsuga Tenshou can be used by any Zanpakuto with “Getsu” in their name, which would apply to Zangetsu and Engetsu. Another theory is that it is a Shiba Clan Technique. We don’t have a definitive answer though.

@@hellsmason5374 yeah but how did he know that Mugetsu exist I agree with Alex kuhn Spoiler: Plus Isshin didn’t lose his power because of mugetsu so he didn’t use it

Wait i was just thinking about it. If Ichigo has all 3 powers (shinigami, hollow, and quincy) and he only lost his shinigami powers why was he not able to see anyone anymore he still had quincy and hollow powers in him right?
@legendofloki665i93 жыл бұрын
I think it was. In my opinion, it even seemed like it fell short (haven't read TYBW, so I could be wrong). Had Urahara not been there to seal the weakened Aizen, Ichigo wouldn't have been able to overcome him. Hogyoku was just way too much of a threat if left unchecked.
@simpgod21704 жыл бұрын
He had to use megetsu, even if he didn't take any serious damage from 5th form aizen attack, the fact is he still took damage, a few more of those attacks and Ichigo would've been really hurt. Plus aizen could just regenerate so even if they were equal aizen regeneration would be a problem and he could always get stronger, using mugetsu was the only way to weaken aizen enough to beat him
@jacobellis23134 жыл бұрын
Was it? Ichigo never even really attacked Aizen the whole time until he decided to use an ability that would force him to lose if it failed.
