Can we just appreciate that the idea of a war between time and space is arguably one of the most original and brilliant plots Chibnall has created for Doctor Who, and yet he seems completely uninterested in exploring it and how it effects The Doctor. They've instead just given The Docfor a load of side quests to tackle before she finally decides to deal with the problem.

That's definitely a Chibnall thing. Come up with an interesting idea and then do nothing with it. That's what he does to his companions - creates them and then does nothing interesting with them. This is where Chibnall really fails. I understand that both David Tennant and Matt Smith did a lot of rambling but nowhere near as much as Jodie. Also most of their rambling wasn't exposition about the plot and when it was they slowed down so you could understand or they had another character bouncing questions off of them. Chibnall actually expects you to pay attention to what Jodie is saying and work it into the plot and if you don't then you have no idea what is happening. It doesn't help that Jodie's voice is irritating.

Apart from the terrible writing, Chibnall is also just taking a massive dump on everything that's been done previously. Doctor Who has almost 60 years of established lore and events, including the time lord's role in the maintenance of time through the use of the web of time and eye of harmony. I think one of the biggest things that a show writer has to get for doctor who is making their stories work with what's gone previously. RTD and the time war worked because it respected everything that had gone on before. This whole arc doesn't work because it overwrites so much that was more interesting, more creative and better established. It makes Chibnall seem pretty arrogant and like he knows better than every show writer that has gone before him. I so hope RTD can salvage this hot mess
@jvblhc3 жыл бұрын
I'm probably wrong but I can't help but think that Chibnall's whole Timeless Child debacle was done simply to (a) show that the Doctors (all males) weren't all that special and (b) showed that the origin of the Time Lords came from a little girl.

@@jvblhc Not so sure about that, It makes all the doctors MORE special, too special - the universe should not revolve around the doctor. I guess the previous canon of doctors have become part of a new, bigger, more boring whole. In Chibnall's psychology "inclusion" or any didactic messaging is a kind of device that should be added to plots willy nilly without much thought, he probably was not that complex about it since he does not actually care. I think it was an old fan theory of his, from that scene in the Mind of Morbius, not that it is any better because of that fact.

Personally, I believe the 13th doctor will regenerate into the Jo Martin Doctor. Soon after her regeneration The Division wipes her mind of her retirement years (incarnations 1 to 13), so she only remembers her time working for The Division. She then later escapes, with Fugitive of the Judoon occurring after. This explains why 13 and the Fugitive Doctor don’t recognise each other. I’m guessing the 13th Doctors final episode will be a timey wimey multi Doctor story where we will see 13 regenerate early on in the episode, featuring Jo and Jodie (before her regeneration).

My theory is still that all of this will end with 13 waking up from a coma after falling through the roof of a train years ago...

No, cause after she regenerates RTD will be show runner and he will want no part of this nonsense. (if he is smart)

It was fine but it was all over the place. If they trimmed a few of the flashbacks or combined them into less individual scenes it would’ve been better I think

Here’s hoping that the weeping angels story is scary and decent, but I have doubts…
@PlatinumAltaria3 жыл бұрын
Moffat only got two good stories out of them before misstepping, Chibnall doesn't stand a chance. Except quick cuts, jump scares, and no stakes.

@@PlatinumAltaria The Angels take Manhattan is a great episode in my opinion. Stand out of series 7 though the stakes weren’t nessisarily high on that achievement…
@PlatinumAltaria3 жыл бұрын
@@AlmightyBruce I mean... series 7 doesn't give much competition. But no, it's quite bad. Angel of Liberty really seals its fate. No amount of companion killing can bring back the seriousness after that.

Actually I just found out he said in the first episode review that he’s not scoring the episodes until the last episode because it’s one big story. So he’s going to score all 6 episodes in one go. Personally I don’t see the point in that but that’s the reason.

To be fair Chibnall used the Daleks, Cybermen and sontarans a lot better than Moffat ever did. And he did the weeping angels quite well as well

people reliving their past in a corruption of the "time Force2, and Doctor nasty moving through it to bring them back? Sounds a bit like people reliving their past in a corruption of The Speed Force and The Flash moving through it to try to bring them back. but to be fair, at least the MCU did nick the Doctors Regeneration Super Power of his body being able to emit yellow/orange unspecified energy force, for Captain Marvel. So what goes around comes around.

I found it a struggle to actually finished watching this episode since I found rather boring and only finished it when I saw this review was going up. Ill probably finish out Flux purely because Ive seen everything else and want to try the next Doctor but nothing about Flux makes me want to keep going. All it really does it make it extremely clear to me that this is the most unlikable I have ever found the Doctor, more than any other incarnation they seem like a frustrating person to me and someone who actively forgets or has contempt for the presence of the people she allows to be with her on these adventures.

Having seen the leaks, this episode (and how it seems to be lining up with them) fills me with dread for the show's future. If they turn out to be accurate, I doubt even Russell T Davies returning will be able to salvage the show without effectively retconning out the Chibnall era.

"What is your mission?" "Love" "That is not a mission that is an abstract concept" ....I'm with the Cyberman, love is not a mission. it is a motivation. The script is just being overly poetic and vague like it always is this season and it means nothing and just wastes time.
