I don't think the white girl's point was about the phrase itself being racist, I think her point is that her teammates are being cast as villains because they're black women that show attitude and fire. Which makes sense to me. Caitlyn Clark taunted people all season, and when Angel taunted her back they acted like Clark was somehow a victim. So she’s not being PAID to play basketball, she’s not a professional basketball player. She’s paid to eat this or wear that or endorse this. Thats COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, it’s like any other job. If she worked at McDonald’s while also playing basketball she’d be getting ZERO from her school and ONLY be compensated for the work she does OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL, which is the case here. You don’t get to state “she’s a well paid professional athlete” and act like she’s being compensated by LSU for playing basketball AKA BEING AN ATHLETE. It’s simply NOT THE CASE. Women on her squad that play JUST AS MUCH BASKETBALL as Angel does but don’t make a fraction of the money she does because the money ISNT COMING FROM BASKETBALL!
