Pro tip for anyone running the unity tactical risers take out the front buis inside the mount and you can run a front sight post from DD or the magpul pro front buis. It’s level and very effective. You get that longer distance between the rear and front and is effective. Just wanted y’all to know that.

@@matteal7017 no worries! You are able to take out the rear peep and use a rear buis but not my recommendation as it’s difficult to look through the rear sight through the mount to the front sight. Having the rear peep from the sight along with a front mounted iron sight is the most effective imo. Glad this helped y’all! Btw for the gbrs mount unity is now making a flip to center mount for your magnifier. It’s definitely massive but again mission specific.

Thank you for this video Chris. This very informative, especially about backup iron considerations. You are right about height over bore, you just need understand your zero with your mount height and your holds at distance. I've shot my 14.5 upper with t2/Unity setup out to 300. Quite frankly the 50 zero poi out to 200 is similar to lower 3rd mount the drop at 300 is only about 3 inches more.

Great video, thanks for the details. I've just started running a red dot with a magnifier recently. The slide to the side magnifier is nice but now it sits outside of the weapon envelop and seems more likely to get snagged on something or get torn off in high stress situations. I like the concept of the up/down magnifier mount vs. the side pull out mount.

One thing I would like to see the marine corps infantry improve is passive night aiming systems within the rifle platoon. The medium machine gun section is actually optimized for use with passive night aiming systems, such as the PAS 13G clip on thermal sitting in front of the trijicon MDO. My section still maintains the PEQ 15 only as a back up aiming device for the M240Bs. However for the rifle platoons, especially as we have began to integrate the trijicon VCOG optics widespread, we have no passive aiming devices available.

I have the rear as a flip up which makes it much less annoying, but it’s still not the same. I’ll be taking it to at minimum 1/3rd after getting rid of the trash holosun aems that’s on it. Like you said in the video, it’s gotta be at 1.93, because once you try 1.93 or higher, you aren’t going to want to go back.

Elcan 1x/4x with RD on Top is my "go to" AR setup, sure it weights a ton, but i could go passive, with the RD (don´t own NVG yet), I can reach out with the 4x. I´m used to the G36 from the German army: The RD sits at 8cm over bore (roughly 3,15 inch). Useing Bodyarmor you don´t checkweld the RIfle at all: You simply set the butstock on the Plate (draw a line from your eye down to the ground, thats the line where you place the butstock): If you put your gun up the Dot is right there! no need to move your head at all if you do it the right way. Because this was my first Rifle to shoot and thats what i first learned, I never got why americans bothered with the "high over bore". Just know your holds if you get closer than 50m.

An off-angle red dot along with other optics has replaced irons as a redundant sighting system. Optics give the shooter much greater capabilities over irons. These capabilities are shooting on the move, shooting in strange positions, shooting at night and target focus in CQB. Irons, as far as the subject of a fighting rifle have but all become obsolete.
@2amichaelj
@2amichaelj 2 жыл бұрын
They're only obsolete when the optic is In working condition. I can tell you as someone who has trained in modern military scenarios, EMPs are a real threat that the US Army trains for. All those holographics and led red dots will be paperweights in that situation. Is it going to happen? Probably not, but the possibility is a real one. I run offset red dots but also keep a couple of offset irons around and train with them just in case.

Being able to focus on your target and the sighting system is hands down a better sighting system. It's faster, easier and more accurate by far, especially with training. Why use a red dot if your going to try to line up 4 points of aim and why block 50% if the sight? Things like this and the mid level drop leg too. Now it’s common practice, at the time everyone thought I was crazy.
