PS1 managed to do it. There are so many great RPGs on the system, too many to list. I remember a rumor that someone at Nintendo said that "RPGs were boring", mainly in response to losing Square as a major developer for its consoles. I think it was just an attempt to save face.

Imagine what could have been if a) the 64dd would have released much earlier and cheaper so most N64 owners had the dd as well, or b) the 64dd was never in development to begin with so all the effort on it and it's planned games were not wasted because they were never started. All those games could have been made for the N64 to begin with and actually finished!

The game is now called Desert Island and leaves the player on a lonely island. In order to survive you have to harvest and breed animals. carts were expensive to order and you had to guess the right amount as the publisher or you would be left holding thousands of unsellable carts (ala glover). publishers were weary of the n64, hence why so many mediocre n64 games never found a publisher. ps1 was more profitable, and also had a lot more shovelware by extension, but it was easier to get a publisher on board for an only okay ps1 game.
