@geoffreyedgson7875 Жыл бұрын
True, to an extent. Frost did actually lose at the Olympics, probably from the same overconfidence. Background on the film plot releaved that Moon/Greeves actually plants steroids on her opponent and she received the medal by default. Instead of taking that lose and learning from it, she ignored any misstep and walked head-first to defeat. Plus, Frost was an Olympic fencer. Every time she landed even a tiny cut on Jinx, she celebrated. Plus, one elbow or a "dirty" hit sent her scrambling. Olympic fencing is a touch sport with referees to manage what somebody can use and deduct points for cheating. Outside of those controlled conditions, she does an impressive job until she overlooks Jinx grabbing a spare weapon, and her own confidence leads her to stride heat-first to defeat.
@Jakeski87 Жыл бұрын

Sadly, back in those days, Rosamund Pike was not as famous nor beloved as she is today. She was just taking off as an actress and that's why they chose her to play the villainess that had to be forcefully killed off during the climax of the movie. I think this was even her first major role, while Halle Berry had a lot more career, fame, and recognition than Mrs. Pike did at the time. But if I have to say something in favor of Pike, and this movie, is that from here you could tell that the she had tremendous potential. It is not uncommon to read that many prefer and remember Miranda Frost/Rosamund Pike more positively and fondlier over the rest of the characters, constantly citing her as one of the few decent or enjoyable parts of this film. Or at least, that she doesn't cause as much division among fans, compared to Jinx. The script didn't favor Jinx/Halle Berry at all, which is why she never became very popular with Bond fans and the idea of making Jinx spinoff movies never took off. While on the other hand, many fans ended up loving Miranda/Rosamund a lot in the long run. The girl has a natural talent for playing villains that you end up loving or admiring, and after several films she became one of the actresses who best represents 21st century female empowerment and competitive, modern women.

@bf7775 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely agreed, if portrayed well. Such fights offer a uniquely captivating elegance and grace, especially if the combatants are beautiful, intelligent, and proficient. Magnify the allure 10x if sexy/revealing outfits are involved, but this is exceptionally rare nowadays with feminists having infested all of Hollywood. Unless the villainess is wholly unredeemable, there's also an element of intrigue as one tries to mentally justify a reason to spare her. Frost evoked all of this to a great degree, and her death seemed like such a complete waste of talent given her abilities as an MI6 double-agent. I feel she was not beyond redemption and wish she had survived.

You really killed off the wrong lady here. The idea of Bond having to make his escape with Frost - gorgeous, yet enemy, sounds so much more enticing! 😩

I, for one, am incredibly happy that nothing came of Halle's idea for Jinx to get her own spin-off movie. I love Halle, great actress, but Jinx annoyed me to no end. The roles really should have been reversed for "Die Another Day" anyway - Miranda as the goodie and Jinx as the baddie. Or have them both start off bad and then Miranda gets convinced to change sides and work with 007 after being betrayed by either main baddie or Jinx. It might have saved Miranda from dying but it certainly wouldn't have saved this movie. From "Dr. No" in 1962 to "The World Is Not Enough" in 1999, the 007 franchise was known and famous for its of brilliant actual stunts performed by real people in incredible machines and incredible and detailed models built by many talented people over many hours...and then in 2002 - 007's 40th anniversary on the big screen - all replaced by awful CGI.

In all fairness, the Action-Scenes in DaD weren't all CGI. The Opening for example (the Hovercraft Chase) was almost all real, with a lot of Pyrotechnics. There was also very little CGI during the Car-Duel later on. Hardly makes up for the Tsunami-Scene or this finale, but its something...

Well, I think "saving Miranda Frost from dying" as you call it, would've helped and improved the very final act thoroughly. Ofc we're only speaking of the movie's last 10 minutes or so. But still those could've really shaped the way people remember the whole installment. So it would be Frost killing Jinx while Bond is still dispatching Graves. The two MI6 agents would have to work together to flee the plane (on this note: even in the original movie they let you know that Bond isn't in favor at all of Frost being killed). Instead of the final cringeworthy bed scene with Jinx, there would've been the need for a character scene, where Bond decides how to deal with Frost's betrayal, which led to his months of torture. And honestly that could go either way. You could've had Miranda charming her way out of the situation, which may lead into another (perhaps cheesy) love scene. Or instead Bond could stay harsh and thus just took her into custody. 🤷♂️ You see, either way sounds better than what we got for the ending in DAD, doesn't it?

I don't think so. The script did not serve either actress very well, but the fight choreography was serviceable enough. Both Halle and Rosamund moves were limited by the space so we given that throwover move and nothing much else.
