I'm loving the use of the detachments man! Some ranged support, some halberd support.... giving the spear blocks additional ranged and countercharge threat... very cool. Cannot wait for the cavalry to enter the ranks, and perhaps... a priest of Ulric? Surely the Arcane Journal for Empire will fix Priests, Surely...

Id like to see more Skaven battles. Maybe some Rat Ogres. Many warp tokens and breeding females to the Skaven Warlord fir painting them all up. A lot of work.

Steam tank always goes on a flank, it completely locks it down. Anytime I put steam tank centre it dies super quick. It's tough, but not that tough

​@lucianaurelius2418 I have played a fair few games with my Empire army at this point, many of them in tournaments. And one thing I have learned is that if your flank is lost then the game goes down hill quickly. This is because people start hitting your units in the side and rolling up the army. When I first started playing I always put my tank front and centre, because I was very confident in its toughness and I thought it could survive the thickest of fighting. Well I quickly learned that a steam tank can dealt with quite easily by almost any faction. After a few games in a row with my steam tank dying I realised by using it in the centre all I was doing was giving up 265pts to the enemy and sacrificing one of my best assets for little gain. So I decided to try something a little different. I began putting my steam tank on the flanks and using more like chariot or cavalry unit. The results were immediate. My steam tank was able to dominate the flank it was on, bullying the weaker enemy units that are typically found on the flanks. This resulted in 3 benefits. Firstly, my steam tank stopped dying as much, and thus did not give up its victory points. Secondly, my steam tank was now actively claiming victory points by killing enemy units. And lastly, now it was my opponents flank which was being collapsed, not mine, causing them a dilemma. I think it's important to put all of this in the context of the wider army. I am taking a lot of infantry and do not own any cav at the moment, but I am working on getting some soonish. I suspect his lack of cav is behind why I have learned to use my steam tank in this unorthodox way! Regarding taking more Artillery, that is a good suggestion and 1 that I am working towards but at the moment I have to make do with the units I have available and that are fully painted. However, I understand that a lot of Empire players disagree with this approach. All I can do is share my reasoning and hope it provides some explanation and context

panicking units that are over half starting unit strength is a Fall back not a flee so the skaven bsb as he cant be under half strength with 2 wounds, hes at half or dead. this tripped me up a couple of times too.

Priests are not worth it. Having only Ld7 means they don't always get their prayers, and they provide no Ld buff to the unit. I used Priests in every block of halberdiers at a tournament, and they were useless. I've tried detachments, and they never work for me. They tend to be a weak target rather than a support. Handgunners can only fire in a single rank, so they take up a lot of frontage so they get charged very easily, and are more of a liability to the army. I think Mordian Glory was lucky in playing Skaven who have a few very large units, whereas most armies have a lot of small units of monsters or cavalry, who can more easily target the vulnerable detachments.

Why are skaven armies so small nowadays. Back in 6th ed tey were an unstopabble never ending swarm, and they woull always win. It is weird to see them struggling

I think you played the warband rule wrong, My understanding is you use the generals ld THEN you add your own warband bonus. So they should have passed

Why was the Skaven player firing the Warpfire thrower is such a cheesy way? Surely he should have aligned the Thrower at the target unit and fired directly at it rather than firing it in some weird sideways maxi hits fire-bending manner? Page 229 is clear "the broad end must point at the intended target. (HE DID NOT DECLARE A TARGET) The template may then be moved a number of inches directly away from the fire thrower (therefore in a straight line at the target) up to its maximum range measured from the narrow end of the template". SORT IT OUT

😯 well that is an awfully vitriolic reaction to what may be a miss play of a rule in other people's game. A rule for a unit that as mentioned was the first time used in this edition. That actually looking now at the wording of the rule was followed rules as written, though I would certainly agree not as probably intended. Adding to that, trying to read and play the rule quickly for the first time, on video isn't ideal and I'm sure you can see why there may have been a mistake. Again, what I did fits the rules as written anyway. And on top of that both players agreed it was fine at the time. Will I play it differently next time, you bet. Do you need to work on that attitude, you bet.
