Great to see multiple big halibut are out there. Sometimes I wonder, what with so many folks fishing and all, but then again it's a big ocean. And it might maybe also be that most of us just aren't that good at fishing, try as we might, and aren't even in the neighborhood of making a dent in the fish population to begin with.

It seem like you should use a slightly larger treble hook. In Orange County, we drift. I think your front hook could be larger too, but both hooks could be a relatively fine wire hook that grabs easily or goes through the jawskin easily. Large bait = large hooks!

What's better for bait for halibut. Herring, anchovy, or mackeral?
@DieHardFishing3 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the situation. For the SF Bay, I think herring or anchovy work better. Herring for the bigger fish and anchovy for more quantity.
@MimiFishFish3 жыл бұрын
From videos I’ve seen around the Bay Area lately and from fishing from some piers and seeing what’s worked: sometimes herring works, sometimes anchovy. Since the water is warming and more anchovy are coming into the bay some are saying hali have been hitting anchovy well lately (see ChrisPFish latest video). Then there’s videos where hours of trolling herring results in nothing, switch to a crank bait and boom! They’re hitting. And sometimes exactly opposite THAT!

Nice catch of big fish. Are those big, older fish are less desirable to eat (contaminants)? You never had more than 1 fish on your stringer. Do you off load them into the cooler? It seemed you never had very much line out. Good video; great colors. You're looking more comfortable in that high seated, motorized kayak.
