Great video. Catching finks is fun and you finally got your big one. Persistence paid off. Good going!

This river has eel river strain steelhead up to 20lbs but the upper section is typically battle fishing when the fish are present. lower sections offer much chromer fish and easier pressure

She's done son, pretty sure it was her last run ! Great job on the release. She provided the best opportunity for use to experience that fishery in the future.

When a tributary comes into a river it creates eddies. Those fish will use the eddies to conserve energy looking for food. The will see food and dart out into the current and catch it, then return to the Eddie.

Very enjoyable watching as always. Could you please sometimes comment on the likely texture and taste after cooking and preferred method of the various species you catch, especially through the stages of spawning and environmental factors.

💛 ...i'm assuming it's the american... the local fish reports (bob simms, saturday morning on kfbk, am1530, podcast on iheartradio), says that with the high flows, the steelhead are close to the bank (like 10-15 feet)...

Correct but alot of people come to that area and snag em it’s sad the true fisherman want this fishery to improve and last but there will always be those poachers

I went out this week but only hooked up on smolts I do want to fish that last area but it can get crowded. U hookin up on that spoo. Gave me confidence that I am doing the correct idea too. For that last part of the river how long are you letting the spoons drop before reeling

Adam, I'm curious. What are your thoughts about using a bobber with a spoon for depth control? I might be overthinking it, but it should mimick the presentation with a salmon egg. It even might work better if cast upstream.

Yes, those are steelhead smolts that were recently released. That river doesn't have a "true" trout population anymore.

I believe is does. Me and my brother live nearby and have been fly fishing that area for 24 years. He catches about ten natives a season. Me about 2?
@chuckd.631510 ай бұрын
@kelliervinc3998 I could be wrong. But there are basically three runs of steelhead head(summer, fall, and winter) so they are in the river almost all year. Some of the smolts might not migrate and hold over. Unfortunately, the hatchery doesn't plant trout, because it would enhance the fishery.

From my earlier years of fishing from the late '50's, both many CA streams and surfs it's seems so very different NOW to fish for and catch (let alone eat different looking flesh) non-wild, natural hatchery raised fish. Baits, lures and techniques too are somewhat non natural, so different. Nimbus (blockage) Dam?? To Where now does "THE RIVER RUN THROUGH IT"? Fellow fishers don't loose the trees for the forest. ADAM, comment?
