I have a 2004 6.0 that would randomly drop fuel pressure from 55 to 0 psi while driving and die. I dropped the tank and found I had broken off the fuel filter cone from my pickup draw tube. This was the second broken and disintegrated filter cone. My 2004 did not have the filters in the tank, but the pickup tube was half full of plastic bits from the disintegrated filter cones. It was packed with plastic bits all the way to the quick disconnect past the tube curve into the tank! I thought I had a weak fuel pump, but I had trash in the draw tube.

I think you should have also addressed the all to common F450 F550 problems with the sealant that breaks down in these metal fuel tanks that can if untreated cause injector failure and clogged fuel filters.

you connect to the port on the fuel housing with a pressure sendind unit and run a wire to the cab. there are a few right ups on the Internet if you look, its fairly easy. just dont over torque the connection to the port cause you can crack the housing. the port connection is a m12 fitting i believe. purchase it at a place that sells hydraulic components

are these screams in a panel van I have a international 1652-sc with a 7.3 ltr turbocharged engine? and it appears to be a dog I was th I long injector rebuild but after seeing this I'm not so sure.. definitely going to get a fuel and boost pressure gauges to keep connected to it.

This is why I have a fuel pressure gauge. I did a full e-fuel conversion on my 96, 75psi even at WOT I bought a 96 F350 and the feller spent more money at the ford stealership than I paid for the truck, he had turbo rebuilt, new ecu, and lots of others but yet the truth would never start. Only took me about a hour and a half to figure it out with a gallon can of fuel and just using a electric fuel pump to force fuel into the stock mechanical pump. The idiots either were too stupid or just wanted his money so they ignored the real problem, the fuel strainer in the front tank and a broken pickup tube in the back. I sure they were far too busy and smart to use a gauge to check about fuel pressure. No offense to Ron at all, the local ford lot in my town is ran and serviced by morons that over charge for their stupidity.

I am having the exact same thing going out. blows black smoke with great power and then it acts like im loosing fuel. black smoke goes away and I loose power. I can build 30 lbs of boost then it drops off to 20-22. new fuel filters, turbo, blue spring mod, checked cac tubes, new maf, new ebp, and bullet proofed. have not checked fuel pressure tho.

I have a question I have an OBS ford so no filters in the pick up tube just the shower head which i have replaced. Still getting the same fuel psi drop while driving. Thinking I have pieces of the old shower heads in my fuel line. Have you ever seen this? Happens on both tanks so thinking its from the selector valve forward.

I bought a 2012 Ford CNG E 450 Super Duty Exonoline on acceleration the vehicle has trouble reaching 50mph or even 35mph, the bus sat for a year possibly after it was replaced for a newer model, it starts right up and had been maintained regularly before it was parked. The shuttle bus had only did short runs at the airport, the mileage is 104k. If anyone has suggestions, please comment.

have an 06 that sounds like it has a miss on cold start up. Runs good afterwards for about 30 minutes@ 60mph then loses power and have to pull over. Could this be the problem? has cyl 5 & 2 cont/bal codes. How did you hook up gauge?

fyi, I have a 2005 ford f350 6.0 I experienced this same issue it was the broken pick up screen in tank, bunch of little plastic pieces from broken screen was clogging fuel pressure under load, removed bed, removed sensor repaired, clean tank...now all good...what a hassel

DieselTechRon i have a problem with my truck that i just can't seem to figure out. My truck has a new ficm (That has been modded) new icp sensor, new oil, full 5" exhaust with 4" downpipe. I have cleaned my turbo and have put a new fuel pump with motorcraft fuel filters. I have also done the blue spring upgrade. However, my truck has great starts and has tons of power for the first minute or less and then it loses power and will not get it back again until i turn it off and start it again. I can literally melt the tires on a fresh start but i wont be able to after a minute. I feel like it might be the ipr but my mechanic claims he changed it out so idk where to go from here. I have tried turning my truck off while rolling and seeing if the power is just from a fresh startup but i can have the truck on for hours and do this and the power comes back and flees after a bit. Do you think it could be the in tank filters? My mechanic says he checked it and was good. But i somehow don't believe him. Could you give me direction. I don't want to go on replacing things that are irrelevant to my problem. Thank you in advance. Your videos are great.

Can clogged filters in the fuel pick up assembly cause the fuel pump to go bad? I cleaned my filters, they pretty nasty but the problem continues, truck runs really rough and then dies. I don't have a way to test the fuel pressure.

Yes they can stress the pump. The fuel also cools the pump.

cleaned turbo new ipr screen pulled sending unit new icp sensor leak tested no leaks changed every o ring on each injector even the one on the top inside cleaned and replaced egr valve checked map sensor hose replaced that 50 psi on fuel pressure check 32%ipr 620 on start up truck runs still no power and no cac tube leaks?

Hey Ron I have an 06 f250 6.0 when the fuel level gets to half the gauge just drops and it throws a check engine light once i fill it up it gradually goes up to full. the code it threw was for sending unit circuit open.do you think i need to replace the sending unit? and if so whats the easiest way to do so?

Does this same principle applies to a gas engine i have a 2001 FORD E350 XL when the vehicle idles it does so perfectly im able to drive for maybe 30-40mins before it start to lose power overtaking or even merging. Ive changed the fuel filter 2 months prior to the problem as i had the same symptoms as i found out that the filter was clogged thus restricting the flow of fuel to the engine. I have not checked the fuel tank to see whats going on as ive been having the issue for quite sometime now. would really appreciate the help

Your truck doesn't have these screens, but it does have a pre-pump filter in the tank that does the same job. If you remove the pump assembly from the tank you'll see the filter right at the bottom without taking it apart like we have to with the diesels.

Hi, looking at a 1997 International 9700 series with a 7.3, I test drove it, engine sounds great, turbo is whistling, and sounds great, but this thing has NO power, took me a 1/4 mile just to get it up to 45 MPH, it has a Spicer 5 speed trans, the problem is, the truck is 65 miles from me, so, I will have to drive 65 miles to diagnose it, but the truck is perfect for what I want to do. It only has 198K miles on it, the other problem, the guy that is selling it, has not owned it long, doesn't know the history, and say's the previous owner is an ass, and is of no help at all! I guess the fuel pressure test should be my first test, but do you know of any other issues that would make it gutless ? Bad wastegate?

I got rough idle, white/black smoke when revving, and blow by is fine.. inline filter too bed tank started buzzing bad and buzzes long after key is turned. truck starts fine with good idle until you get down the road about 5 miles. I lose power & can only go 20, poor girl hardly made it home. Turbo is fine, I throw no codes besides when this starts happening because it makes trans lag so it throws ratio codes..that was debunked when she ran fine.. this started happening after I switched to my main tank that I haven't used in 8 months or filled in long time and after symptoms occured in a snap, I flipped back to bed tank.. I thought the truck was a goner, loss power, smoke, I checked bowl (was some debris) & cleaned new filter that was already brown, etc... the main tank smells like rotten eggs. I am draining today to see if it was just bad diesel. what do you think? injector? injector clog, orings?? poor fuel pressure? pump fail? truck always had hard time with the main tank but I didn't realize how low bed tank was this time. I filled bed tank up and dropped seafoam in her 2 days ago. If this is bad diesel when do you think it'll cycle through? 02 7.3 f350

So I had 40psi at the gauge. Used the tech that you showed by bypassing the tank and still got 40psi. I changed out the fuel pump and still 40psi?

Not sure if you have heard of an issue with a 99 7.3L powerstroke like the one I am having it sounds similar to the issue you describe above. Not sure if this type of issue you are describing sends a check engine code or not. After about 100miles of driving, there is a sudden loss of power when trying to accelerate. With the pedal to the floor the engine speed decreases, white spoke blows out & the engine slows to the point where I have to stop, and the engine will idle rough and sounds like it wants to quit. The problem goes away after about 20-30 minutes of rest. Then the engine runs fine then I able to drive again. I drove like this off and on from California to Arizona, making an 8 hour drive turn into a 16hour drive! The funny thing is, there is no check engine light or codes! Any insight would be amazing, thanks guys!
